Before dealing with each Exam Practice Booklet Listening Task, go through the Task information and the TIPS shown in the PPT presentations uploaded in the Portal’s Intranet. Take some time to train your students giving them the information about the task and the tips. You can use this presentation as many times as you think it is needed throughout the Advanced Phase. The objective is that students are better prepared when facing their Listening Tests and Paper 4, if they are interested in taking the exam.

Dealing w ith the Speaking Video Cambridge English: First (from 2015). Sample Test Before starting Unit 3, introduce the FCE Speaking Test to students. Play the video and ask students to complete the following chart: Part Part Part Part Part

Descrip tion The interlocutor asks you and your partner questions about yourselves. You may be asked about things like your home town, your interests, your studies, etc. The interlocutor gives you two photographs and asks your partner a question about your photographs and your partner responds briefly. Then the interlocutor gives your partner two different photographs. Your partner talks about these photographs for 1 minute. This time the interlocutor asks you a question about your partner’s photographs and you respond briefly. This part is divided into two parts and the interlocutor asks you and your partner to talk together in both. In the first part, you will be given some five written prompts and asked to discuss a question. The interlocutor does not join in the conversation. After 2 minutes, the interlocutor will give you one more minute to make a decision together which is related to what you have been discussing. The interlocutor asks some further questions, which lead to a more general discussion of what you have talked about in Part 3. You may comment or expand on your partner’s answers if you wish.

Focus on Part 2 of the Speaking Test and play the video again from 2:36 to 6:25. Ask students to identify expressions to be used when dealing with Part 2: Answers In the first picture… In the second picture… I think both are… In both cases… I think I’d prefer to enjoy… because… Show students PPT with the useful expressions to deal with Part 2 and practise pronunciation with them. Students must know that this part of the test tests their ability to organise their speaking and to compare, describe and give their opinions.
