BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang
Dalam pengujian mekanik, terdapat beberapa jenis pemberian beban kepada material, yaitu beban statik seperti pada uji tarik, uji tekan, dan uji puntir, beban dinamik seperti pada uji fatigue, dan pemberian beban dengan kecepatan tinggi seperti pada uji impak. Perbedaan dari pembebanan jenis ini dapat dilihat pada strain ratenya. Tabel 1. Jenis Pembebanan Berdasarkan Strain Ratenya
Pengujian impak ada karena terjadi suatu fenomena pada masa Perang Dunia ke 2. Saat itu banyak terjadi fenomena patah getas yang terjadi pada daerah lasan kapal-kapal perang dan tanker-tanker. Diantara fenomena patahan tersebut ada yang patah sebagian dan ada yang benar-benar patah terbelah menjadi 2 bagian. Fenomena patahan ini biasa terjadi pada saat musim dingin ketika kapal sedang berada di laut lepas ataupun ketika kapal sedang berlabuh. Contoh yang sangat terkenal tentang fenomena patahan getas adalah tragedi Kapal Titanic yang melintasi samudera Atlantik. Semenjak adanya fenomena tersebut, banyak orang yang menelitinya lebih lanjut dan lahirlah uji impak ini. Dasar pengujian impak ini adalah perpindahan energi potensial yang berubah menjadi energi kinetik dari pendulum beban yang berayun dari suatu ketinggian tertentu kepada benda uji melalui tumbukan, sehingga benda uji mengalami deformasi.

yang diberikan tidak selalu terjadi secara perlahan, namun diberikan dengan kecepatan tinggi atau secara tiba-tiba, contohnya seperti beban yang diterima oleh bumper mobil pada saat terjadi kecelakaan. Pengujian ini banyak dilakukan di indusri terutama pada industri otomotif. Pengujian impak dilakukan untuk mengetahui apakah energi yang diterima oleh material diserap atau dialirkan kembali oleh material tersebut. Untuk industri mobil, material yang baik dan aman untuk digunakan adalah material yang dapat menyerap energi akibat tabrakan, bukan yang mengalirkan energi tersebut.

BAB II TEORI DASAR 2.1 Uji Impak
Uji impak adalah pengujian ketahanan suatu material terhadap beban kejut. Beban kejut yang dimaksud adalah pemberian beban dengan kecepatan tinggi. Parameter kecepatan pembebanan inilah yang membedakan uji impak dengan uji yang lainnya, dimana pada pengujian yang lainnya beban diberikan secara perlahan. Pengujian impak merupakan simulasi dari kondisi operasional material yang biasa ditemui dalam perlengkapan konstruksi dan transportasi dimana beban yang diberikan tidak selalu terjadi secara perlahan, namun diberikan secara tibatiba atau dengan kecepatan yang tinggi, contohnya seperti beban yang diterima pada bumper mobil pada saat terjadi kecelakaan.
2.2 Prinsip Uji Impak
Dasar dari uji impak adalah penyerapan energi potensial dari pendulum beban yang berayun dari suatu ketinggian tertentu yang kemudian menumbuk spesimen uji sehingga spesimen mengalami deformasi. Pada saat beban dinaikkan dengan ketinggian tertentu, beban memiliki energi potensial, kemudian saat beban jatuh dan menumbuk spesimen, energi potensial yang dimiliki oleh beban berubah menjadi energi kinetik. Energi kinetik yang mengenai spesimen merupakan energi kinetik maksimum yang kemudian diserap oleh spesimen uji. Nilai energi yang diserap oleh spesimen hingga terjadi patahan pada spesimen merupakan ukuran dari ketahanan impak material tersebut. 2.3 Metode Uji Impak
Metode uji impak berdasarkan standar ASTM E23 ada dua, yaitu : 1. Metode Charpy Metode Charpy merupakan metode yang banyak digunakan di Amerika Serikat. Spesimen metode ini memiliki dimensi 55 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm (panjang x lebar x tinggi) dan memiliki takikan tepat di tengahtengah spesimen. Berdasarkan standar ASTM E23, terdapat 3 jenis spesimen untuk metode ini, dimana perbedaan antar spesimen terletak pada bentuk takikannya. t akikannya. Bentuk takikan pada spesimen metode ini berupa huruf U, V, dan key hole (seperti lubang kunci).

Pada metode ini, spesimen akan diletakkan pada tumpuan dengan posisi horizontal tanpa dijepit, kemudian beban akan diberikan pada arah belakang takikan. Keuntungan dari spesimen yang tidak dijepit adalah membuat pengujian berlangsung lebih cepat, sehingga memudahkan untuk melakukan pengujian pada temperatur transisinya.
2. Metode Izod Metode Izod merupakan metode yang banyak digunakan di Eropa. Spesimen metode ini memiliki dimensi 75 mm x 10 mm x 10 mm (panjang x lebar x tinggi) dan memiliki takikan. Berdasarkan standar ASTM E23, bentuk takikan dari spesimen metode ini adalah V, dengan kedalaman takikan sebesar 2 mm, dan sudut takikan 45 o.

3. Bentuk Patahan Jenis patahan yang terjadi setelah beban menumbuk spesimen, apakah patahannya berserat (shear fracture), kristalin (cleavage fracture), atau campuran dari keduanya. Patahan berserat biasa terjadi pada material yang ulet, sedangkan patahan kristalin biasa terjadi pada material yang getas.
4. Temperatur Transisi Temperatur transisi adalah temperatur yang menunjukkan transisi perubahan jenis perpatahan suatu s uatu material bila diuji pada temperatur yang berbeda-beda. Dari pengujian dengan temperatur yang berbeda-beda, maka akan terlihat bahwa pada temperatur tinggi material akan cenderung bersifat ulet sehingga patahan yang akan terjadi adalah patah ulet, dan pada temperatur rendah material akan cenderung bersifat getas sehingga patahan yang akan terjadi adalah patah getas. Semakin rendah nilai temperatur transisi, maka semakin tinggi ketahanan patah material tersebut. Dari data energi yang diserap oleh spesimen dan temperatur yang diberikan pada spesimen, akan didapatkan kurva Energi yang Diserap (Cv)

Kecepatan Pembebanan Kecepatan pembebanan yang terlalu tinggi akan membuat spesimen memiliki waktu yang lebih sedikit untuk menyerap energi sehingga patahan yang terbentuk akan cenderung membentuk patah getas karena spesimen tidak sempat untuk terdeformasi. Sebaliknya, kecepatan pembebanan yang terlalu rendah menyebabkan spesimen memiliki waktu yang lebih banyak untuk menyerap energi sehingga patahan yang terbentuk akan cenderung membentuk patah ulet karena spesimen memiliki waktu untuk terdeformasi terlebih dahulu.
