Flair Service
A New Era in Formation Evaluation
A sign significa ificant nt advance advance in technology technology enabling formation fluid characterisation in real time
People, Knowledge & Technology
THE OBJECTIVES
A Long-awaited Innovation for Drilling Supervisors, Reservoir Engineers and Geochemists Quality Information
Intelligent Use of All Available Data
Information has long been missing from the data sets concerning the reservoir flui d - especially during actual dri lli ng. A revolutionary tool is now available to fill this gap in the techniques used to estimate the target structures lying far beneath the surface.
If this new suite of fluid facies data is combined with other data sets such as LWD and E-log data, a whole new insight is thrown into understanding the reservoir and the formation fluid composition.
Gas Signatures & High Precision Indicators T he Flair Service is this unique tool - which for the first time enables the elaboration of a real-time for- mation fluid facies log while drilling .
T he precision o f the technolo gy permits clear gas signatures to be identified, with which new powerful software can make multi-well comparisons , and allows component tracking to locate communicating layers.

Major Impact on Cost & Efficiency Increased Efficiency & Safety
Reduce More Expensive Forms of Evaluation
For the first time, you have precise fluid information as you drill each zone:
T he obj ecti ve is to signifi cantly reduce the need for deferred formation evaluation logging:
T he high sensiti vity allows you to “ feel” the changes approaching a reservoir - and then to know exactly when you cross the boundar y.
Information is delivered that allows savings on alternative and more expensive methods of formation evaluation.
O btain reservoir information that cannot be obtained using other “ while-drilli ng” technology, such as O il Q uality Indicators.
O pti mise downhole fluid sampling.
M uch improved hydrocarbon i ndicators in cool environment wells (e.g. deep water) increase safety in these hazardous environments.
Replacement of some post-dri lli ng logging, especially in development wells. Reduction i n the need for i ntermediate logging, especially when combining the fluid faciesinformation with LWD data.

Estimation of reservoir potential while drilling, G O R and C G R values.
Basin and reservoir modelling.
The Flair Service - a Revolutionary Concept Dedicated Flair Engineers
Expert Knowledge
T he Flair Service comprises the gas chain and i nterpretation tools but most importantly a fluids logging specialist - the Flair Engineer.
A preli minary assessment study of the geological and fluids environment will allow the engineer to “ tune” the tracked mass according to the main objectives of the programme.
H e has an in-depth knowledge of gas and reservoir fluid behaviour and experience in gasanalysis. H e has followed intensive training for reservoir evaluation using gas and also geochemical and reservoir concepts . T he Flair Engineer will liaise with the reservoi r team before, during and after drilling: A ssists in PRE-DRI LL studies. A rrives on site specifically to log the interval of interest and conduct REA L-T IM E analysisand interpretation.
Some of the on-site functions of the Flair Engineer are: Strict quality control of gas and related data. M onitoring real time hydrocarbon indications. A nalysing hydrocarbon & other fluid data. N ormalisation of gas data with relation to R O P, drilling and fluid parameters. C orrecti on of gas values by eliminatio n of recycled components. C ross well correlatio n for trend analysis.
C onducts PO ST-WELL interpretation and Proven Quality delivers an end-of-well Formation Fluid T he Flair Service is reinforced by the stri ct quality procedures in place under our ISO 9001 Q uality Analysis Report . C erti fication, complemented by G eoservices’ selfimposed standards that ensure best-i n-industr y performance.
THE EQUIPMENT
The Flair System State-of-the-Art Technology
Dedicated Technology Designed bya Specialist
A High-Performance Gas Chain
G eoservices’ experi ence of over 40 years in analysis of hydrocarbons, together with the conception and manufacture of i nnovative gas equipment, has permitted an in-depth rethink of principles and methods. T his has led to the most extensive innovation yet devised and the development of an instrument of unequalled performance and precision .
Each element of the gas chain has been redesigned to eliminate undesired effects and guarantee precision. It i s composed of the fluid extractor, the sample transportation li ne and the gas analyser.
THEGASCHAIN A New Generation Fluid Extractor - FLEX
FLEX equipped with heater plates
H ermetic extracti on chamber fitted with sensors
Improved Line Technology - Sample Transport
Increased extraction effi ciency by sampli ng with a probe directly at the bell nipple with an incorporated mud level detector and alarm for safety. Extraction under non-atmospheric and constant high temperature conditions monitored by internal sensors. Extractor response is improved by increasing extraction energy and optimising the gas/mud volume ratio.
FLEX
Sources of contamination of the gas sample during transport have been eliminated. Filtering. Line under controlled specific atmosphere. Propri etary line materi al that i s inert to all gases.
A “Universal” Analyser for all gases: GCMS
T he G C M S is a mobile G as C hromatograph / M ass Spectrometer which far surpasses FID technology. Increased measurement range of C 1-C 8.
Probe head with mud level sensor
H igh sensiti vity for any component and an extraordinary 0.1 ppm in chromatographic mode. Short analysis cycles of 60 or 90 seconds and high speed analysis even for heavy components. Tracing of specific components.

Oil LegIdentification
Same reservoir
T he much improved resoluti on for C 1-nC 5, with the additi on of the heavier hydrocarbons C 6-C 8, is a much more dependable indi cator of gas/oil and oil/water contacts.
Proximity to Pay (PTP) T he presence of water soluble species of which the hydrocarbon components can be a good indicator of up-dip potential.
Proximity to Water Evaluation of BT concentrati on in hydrocarbon secti on can indicate proximity to water.
Geo-steering A changed gas signature wi ll imply movi ng awayfrom the reservoir zone.
Reservoir Oil Quality Q uick-look informatio n such as G O R values can be obtained when the data is combined with other contextual information.
Combined Visualisation Modes
Seal Characterisation Ratio evolution in the cap rock gives information on the efficiency of the seal.
