Sebelum diberi perlakuan, kel!mp!k diberi pretest sampai empat kali dengan maksud untuk mengetahui kestabilan dan kejelasan keadaan kel!mp!k sebelum diberi perlakuan. "ila hasil pretest selama empat kali ternyata nilainya berbeda-beda, berarti kel!mp!k tersebut keadaannya labil, tidak menentu, dan tidak k!nsisten. We limited this risk by training all the pr!fessi!nals wh! played a part in the study. =ecall bias is presumably ine:itable in any retr!specti:e study, but in !ur study in particular, data !n w!rking life, the different !ccupati!ns and, m!re especially, their respecti:e durati!ns, relied !n the mem!ry !f !ur participants. sing a c!mprehensi:e Uuesti!nnaire administered by an !ccupati!nal physician partly minimied this bias. 9ur greatest challenge was t! c!llect en!ugh participants t! create the 12* pairs needed t! meet the study criteria. This is why we included indi:iduals wh! were either y!unger !r !lder than we had !riginally planned. S!me pers!nal risk fact!rs were n!t taken int! acc!unt in !ur study, such as passi:e sm!king in the h!me. $inally, like many studies !f !ccupati!nal risk fact!rs, the healthy 30
w!rker effect pr!bably decreased the r!le !f !ccupati!nal eEp!sure in the de:el!pment !f ;9P#. This study !nce m!re dem!nstrates the imp!rtance !f !ccupati!nal fact!rs in the genesis !f ;9P#, especially am!ng smelters. The imp!rtance !f !ccupati!nal fact!rs in ;9P# and the latterZs eEpected increase !:er the c!ming years justify increased m!nit!ring !f eEp!sed w!rkers. Se:eral studies ha:e suggested that ;9P# patients with !ccupati!nal eEp!sure ha:e a p!!rer pr!gn!sis and higher m!rtality than patients with n! such eEp!sure O+/. The r!le !f the !ccupati!nal physician is t! preser:e w!rkersZ health. The rem!:al !f respirat!ry irritants and the substituti!n !f n!nt!Eic agents f!r t!Eic !nes are the best ways !f eliminating w!rk-related ;9P# risk, as they are in the fight against acti:e and passi:e sm!king.!re!:er, clinicians must be aware !f these risks and ask all new patients with ;9P# ab!ut their !ccupati!nal hist!ry in !rder t! impr!:e their pr!gn!sis by st!pping all eEp!sure, trigger the payment !f w!rk-related insurance c!mpensati!n, and participate in public health sur:eillance. 5ducating empl!yees ab!ut the dangers !f their !ccupati!nal eEp!sure, the c!llecti:e and indi:idual f!rms !f pr!tecti!n reUuired, and als! the first signs !f ;9P#, are als! part !f pre:enti!n.
