NAOMI KAVKA
SCENIC ROUTE TO ALASKA
Naomi Kavka is a songwriter, songwriter, multiinstrumentalist, and performer from Prince George. A visceral entertainer and songwriter, Naomi has performed extensively in BC and St. John’s NL. Recent releases include The Hay Fever EP (March 2016) recorded in Koriyama, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan, Power Duo’s self titled album (November 2015), and Slammed Doors & Severance, Naomi’s debut solo album, released on September 17th 2017.
Substance and accessibility are often considered opposing forces when it comes to pop music, making it all the more impressive when a band like Scenic Route to Alaska so effortlessly delivers ample doses of both. The easygoing Edmonton-based trio, composed of Trevor Mann on lead vocals vocal s and guitar, drummer Shea Connor,, and bassist Connor b assist Murray Wood, effortlessly weaves catchy vocals and memorable melodies through rich arrangements – instantly engaging but begging to be heard again and again. It’s a coveted combination within the crowded sphere of indie rock and one that’s rarely rarely the product of anything but time, talent, and heaps of hard work. Of course, Scenic Route to Alaska are no strangers to any of those.

BANJOS AND CELLOS CELLO S AND UKES, OH MY! ISABELLE HOUGHTON (PRINCE GEORGE)
Isabelle is the First Place winner of Limelight Quest 2017. She is a wonderful, young performer with a pure and honest style. She hopes to inspire young people like herself to be brave and display their musical talents. Isabelle also plays ukulele and guitar, and has a delightful support network helping her along this journey.
THE EISENHAUERS (BC) It has been said that all Canadian writing inevitably reects the almost impenetrable vastness of the land and the great distances that separate us. If ‘The Road We Once Knew’ by the Eisenhauers, the husband and wife duo of Jeremy and Sheree Plett Eisenhauer Eisenhauer,, is any indication, you would be hard pressed not to come to the same conclusion about Canadian music. Simple, spare and heartbreaking in its directness, the concepts of distance, time and the wavering arcs of separation and reunion have rarely been as compellingly explored as they are in this powerful debut album. With its songs of loss, faith and the gratitude of renewal, ‘The Road We Once Knew’ is the perfect soundtrack for real people trying to live authentic lives. Beautifully played, sung and executed, it is a testament to the healing power of music and the value of wisdom gained from experience.
JAMES HILL AND ANNE JANELLE (NOVA SCOTIA)
Four strings and a favourite chocolate bar: that’s all James Hill (possibly the best ukulele player in the world) and Anne Janelle (a cellist of true beauty) had in common when they rst met. It was more than enough. Today, they’re an awardwinning, “utterly world-class” world-cl ass” singer-songwritersinger-songwriterukulele-cello duo (Paul Symes, The Blacksheep Inn). James grew up playing folk, jazz and blues on his ukulele while Anne was exclusively a classical cellist. But the pair’s differences quickly became their biggest asset. The uke is high, the cello is low; the uke plays short notes, the cello long bow strokes; the uke is all about strumming while the cello radiates melody. Like shadows and light in an old photograph, these contrasts are complementary.. “We’re like a pair of dancers who can’t step on each other’s feet,” jokes James. complementary

BOOGIE WOOGIE GYPSY JAZZ AND BLUES ZAVAN (PRINCE GEORGE) The gypsy jazz of Django Reinhardt and Stephan Grappelli is the main inspiration behind this Prince George George band. Blue Moon Marquee is primarily a live duo with the energy and sound of a full band. He is also a songwriter, songwriter, driven by a personal muse, informed by a life on a boomerang of tragedy. His gritty and accomplished ninth studio album, produced by legendary soul singer-songwriter and producer Dan Penn, and recorded with the likes of Vince Gill, Steve Cropper, the McCrary Sisters and the Muscle Shoals Horns, is the latest and arguably greatest effort yet.

“A.J. Croce has wisdom beyond his years. With his music, he represents his generation with a profound sense of honesty in his lyrics and quality in his delivery. The future of entertainment is safe in his hands.” — Willie Nelson.

ANDREW TWINING WITH BRITT A.M. (PRINCE GEORGE)
Taking refuge with his guitar, a handheld tape recorder and a collection of old LPs, Andrew’s song-writing journey stems from the most vintage of musical idioms: rock and roll, rhythm and blues, soul, and southern groove. His current musical journey is with Vancouver blues-based rock and roll band Damn Fools, but Andrew is a PG Resident for at least as long as he is pursuing studies at UNBC. Equipped with his dreadnought guitar and joined by talented Britt A.M., Andrew will play new and old Damn Fools songs, stripped down to their rawest form at Coldsnap 2018.
THE ALKEMIST (FORT FRASER, BC) The Alkemist is a one man music machine from Fort Fraser, BC. KIERA DALL’OSTO (PRINCE GEORGE)
CROWMARSH (PRINCE GEORGE)
The magnetism of Kiera Dall’Osto’s voice evokes comparison to the rugged, under-appr under-appreciated eciated Karen Dalton, with the achiness of country soul sisters Jeanie C. Riley and Sammi Sammi Smith. The culmination of years of song writing, pinpointing her to a genre is no easy task. Whether one settles on honky-tonk, Americana, folk, soulful psychedelia, or just straight up Rock’n’Roll, what is not up for debate is Kiera’s ability as a songwriter and artist. Kiera will be accompanied by two of Prince George’ss dearest musicians, Jeremy Pahl (Saltwater Hank) George’ on banjo & mandolin and Brin Porter (Party on High Street) on upright bass. The show will be a return to the southern folk and country roots which has always been the engine that drives Kiera Dall’Osto’s music.
Crowmarsh is a power-trio blues rock band based out of Prince George, B.C. Founded in 2016 by the man behind the guitar, Karl Wyssen, the band blends classic blues with more experimental vibes throughout their music. Karl is backed by Andrew Green, the funky thumper behind b ehind the bass, and Justin Gendreau, the awe inspiring/jaw dropping rhythmist behind the drums. These guys can bring the perfect energy to any occasion.

The conversations encourage artists and audience to use music to facilitate discussion through stories or questions to explore topics of inclusion, life struggle and cultural understanding. Integris is an essential partner with presenting the community outreach series, as they are committed to building community with communication and there is no better communicator than music! Integris shares Coldsnap’s goal to provide the opportunity for all members of society to experience the music of the world-caliber performers visiting Prince George for the festival. Please join us for these UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL community outreach events - hear great music in an informal setting and get to know the Coldsnap performers!
