OVERVIEW 1.1 ABOU 1.1 ABOUT T CROSSFIT CrossFit is an open source, international business dedicated to the improvement o human health and athletic perormance. CrossFit’s CrossFi t’s oundation is a precise denition o tness that can be measured, observed, and repeated. CrossFit is a real world, unctional tness program that has a unique capacity to humble the world’s best athletes while at the same time remaining remainin g universally scalable to acilitate development at all ability levels. Through e xtensive practical application, study, and observation, CrossFit determined determined long ago that the nee ds o various populations diered in degree, not in kind. When exposed to CrossFit’s prescription or training elite athleticism constantly varied, high-intensity unctional exercise, athletes o all ages and ability levels reap the benets o improved work capacity across broad time and modal domains. This measurable and repeatable improvement improvement in health and perormance led to the adoption o CrossFit as the principal strength and conditioning program or many law enorcement and military units worldwide. CrossFit’s open source nature and commitment to measurable results ensures the constant evolution o the program as better methods are discovered and validated.
CrossFit has several operating CrossFit o perating divisions. The Media Depar tment is responsible or maintaining maintainin g CrossFit.c CrossFit.com om and its associated websites, which oer extensive instruction and education on human movement, along with specic techniques, strategies, and workouts or both athletes and trainers. The trainers. The CrossFit Certication and Training Training Department is the world’s leading provider o per ormance-based training seminars and certications. The CrossFitt Games Department ormalized the “Sport o Fitness” and crowns its champions the World’s Fittest Man and Woman. CrossFi The CrossFit CrossFit Aliate Aliate Department licenses the the CrossFit CrossFit trademark to qualied trainers trainers or commercial commercial purposes. Each o these these divisions contributes contributes directly to building and supporting a community o genuine tness practitioners. 1.2 MISSION The miss mission ion o the the CrossF CrossFit it Certic Certicatio ation n and and Train Training ing Depart Department ment is to establ establish ish and supp support ort an int interna ernation tional al commu community nity o authentic tness practitioners through open-source publication, education, and accredited certication and certicate programs. 1.3 LEVEL 1 TRAINER CERTIFICATE SCOPE The CrossFit Le vel 1 CF-L1 CF-L1 Trainer Certi cate Course is a two-day two -day introductory course on methodology, concepts, and movements.
The course includes includes classroom classroom instruction on: CrossFit’s concepts concepts and methodology, CrossFit’s oundational movements, programming to optimize training results, and nutrition strategies to support tness. Practicals include small group training sessions where students are instructed in CrossFit’s oundational movements under low intensity with a ocus on improving technique. Students Students have their movement observed and corrected, and engage in dialogue concerning eective correction techniques or coaching others. Large, group CrossFit CrossFit workouts are conducted as an example o how to: conduct a CrossFit class, hold a standard o proper technique under high intensity, intensity, and scale or any ability level.

1.4 PURPOSE The purpose o the course course is to to provide students students with an introductory level education on the undamental principles and movements that make up the CrossFit program.
The CF-L1 CF-L1 course is is structured to meet a two-old goal: 1.
Provide attendees attendees the understanding to better better use CrossFit methods or themselves themselves;; and
2.
Provide attendees attendees an initial initial and oundational education or them to to begin training training others others using CrossFi CrossFit. t.
For trainers-to-be trainers-to-be the purpose o the Course is not to provide an e xhaustive CrossFit CrossFit education, but rather provide an initial credential credential and oundation through which to gain expertise saely and eectively with practice and experience. The CrossFit Level 1 Certicate is one o the requirements or becoming a CrossFit aliate. However, earning the L1 Certicate should not be considered the end o an education to be a trainer, but rather the beginning. 1.5 LEARNING OUTCOMES Ater completing this course and successully passing the Level 1 Certicate test, participants will be better able to: •

1.6 LEVEL 1 CERTIFICATE TEST The CrossFit CrossFit Certication and Training Training Department Department and Advisory Panel Panel are responsible responsible or test test development and policies governing eligibility and administration o the test. They are also responsible or contracting with a proessional testing testing agency that administers and provides psychometric expertise.
Proessional Testing is the proessional testing agency contracted by CrossFit to assist in the development, administration, scoring, and analysis o the CrossFi CrossFitt Level 1 Certicate test based on the specications developed by the Certication and Training Trai ning Department. Each test orm was beta tested tested multiple times times to ensure ensure statistical statistical validity and the appropriate appropriate level o diculty o all questions that appear on the CrossFit Level 1 test. The cut-point cut-point I.E. passing passing score score or the the test was determined through through a passing passing score score study led by Proessional Proessional Testing Testing and approved by CrossFit’s Level 1 Advisory Panel. The cut-point is determined relative to the minimum knowledge that new CrossFit trainers should be able to demonstrate. CrossFit administers and grades paper tests or its Level 1 Certicate Course. Scoring is done via a portable Scantron CrossFit system o-site. Participants receive receive their test results via email 5-7 days ater the completion o the test. Certicates are individually mailed and can take up to 4 week s to arrive or those living in the United States States and 6-8 weeks or those living outside the United States. The test contains contains 55 55 multiple-choice multiple-choice questions, including including 5 unscored questions questions that do not count count towards towards the participants score Section 1.7. 1.7. Participants are given 60 minutes to complete the test. It is a closed book, b ook, no-notes no -notes test.

The test is based on the core core concepts, concepts, methodology, and oundational movements o CrossFit, CrossFit, and is designed to be a measure o the participants understanding o these areas. All o the material used comes directly rom the course and the CrossFit Training Guide. Upon passing the test and completing all course requisites, the student will receive a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Trai ner Certicate. Certicate. Participants may opt out o taking the test. Participants who choose not to take the test will be awarded a Certicate o Attendance. A Certicate o Attendance does not aord the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer CF-L1 Trainer designation and is not sucient or training others using CrossFit methods, nor is it sucient or applying or aliation with CrossFit. 1.7 NON-SCORED TEST QUESTIONS 1.7 The CF-L1 CF-L1 test contains contains ve ve unscored questions questions that are being “pretested” “pretested” or evaluated or uture use. These questions are not scored and they do not aect an individual’s pass/ail status. The unscored questions are scattered throughout throughout the test so participants will answer them with the same eort that they give to the actual scored questions.

Pretesting Pretestin g is an accept accepted ed practice that creates a statistically sound standardized test and allows participants to receive scores that are based only on questions that had previously been pretested. 1.8 INSTRUCTOR QUALIFICATIONS All CrossFit Level 1 Course Instructors have passed the Level 1 test and have Coach’s Prep Course Trainer Certicates and have worked at or owned a CrossFit Aliate Aliate or at least 1-year 1-year.. Each has been be en screened and developed, and has demonstrated their competency through rigorous peer review and CrossFi CrossFitt sta training. Positions on sta are competitive and this training, proessional development and evaluation are ongoing throughout each instructor’s time on sta. Many o our trainers have extensive personal qualications and backgrounds in strength and conditioning, college level sports and the proessional health and tness industry. Additionally, Additionally, there are doctors, lawyers, executives, teachers, military and law enorcement proessionals, proessional s, and many other arrays o experience and talent among the CrossFit Instructor sta. For qualications o a specic CF-L1 Instructor, please contact the instructor directly. 1.9 PROG PROGRAM RAM UPDATES Any changes to the Level 1 Trainer Certicate Program’s purpose, scope, requisites, and intended learning outcomes, as well as any changes to the registration process and any and all other changes that may aect participants, will be kept up to date within this Participant Handbook. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 2.1 ELIGIBILITY Participants are eligible or the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certicate i they are at least 17 years old and in good standing with CrossFit, Inc.
I a Participant attends under the age o 17, they will not be permitted to take the test at that time. They will receive a Certicate o Attendance that is valid or 5 years rom the date o the course. To earn a Trainer Certicate, they may attend the test only portion o the course at no charge once they are 17. When that participant passes the test, a Trainer Certicate replaces their Certicate o Attendance and has the same date o validity o the original Certicate o Attendance. Attendance. Should the participant not take or pass the test by the time their original Certicate o Attendance expires, the Participant will have to retake the course and pass the test at a rate o $500, to earn the Trainer Certicate. 2.2 STA STATEMENT TEMENT OF NON-DISCRIMINATION CrossFitt endorses the principles o equal o pportunity. Only by ulflling all o the above stated requisites will a participant be awarded a CF-L1 Trainer Certifcate . Participation is dened as ac tively participating in all group activities and movements, exercises, exercises, and workouts. Attendance Attendanc e is dened as being there rom start to nish each day o the course. Participation in all workouts is required to receive a Trainer Certifcate . All workouts can and will be scaled appropriately appropriat ely or individuals with special needs. Please see the Lead Instructor at the beginning o Day 1 in order to arrange or appropriat appropriate e accommodations.
Due to the introductory nature o the course, and not all attendees being interest interested ed in training others, participants may choose to not take the test. In that case, or in the event that a par ticipant ails the test, a Certicate o Attendance will be awarded. Certicates o Attendance do not aord the CF-L1 Trainer designation and do not expire.

REGISTRA REGISTR ATION PROCESS 3.1 REGISTRATION AND FEES 3.1 All participants are required to register or the CrossFit Level 1 Certicate program at CrossFit.com under the link or the specic event.

A $250.00 $250.00 deposit US Dollars must be placed to secure a spot in the course. Payments can be made up to 6 weeks prior to the course. I registering or a retest due to ailing a previous test, email seminars@crosst.com to receive a code to be able to complete the registration process described above. The ee or retests is $150.00 US Dollars. I registering or a course to revalidate an expired certicate, email seminars@crosst.com to receive a code to be able to complete the registration process described above. Revalidations must go through the Level 1 Course again, as well as take and pass the test. Fee or revalidating an expired certicate is $500.00 US Dollars. On completing registration, CrossFit will send participants a conrmation email. Please pay close attention to this email because it also contains the link to the most up to date Level 1 CrossFit Training Guide study material or the test. Print and bring your conirmation email or the course along with a government-issued photo ID and a # 2 pencil with an eraser. 3.2 IDENTITY AND TEST SECURITY Individuals taking the CF-L1 Certicate test shall acknowledge that they understand the oll owing through their registration: •

3.3 LANGUAGE The Level Level 1 Course Course is curren currently tly oered oered in English only. Currently, the written test is oered in Dutch, English, German, French, Italian, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish South American & Castilian. The CrossFit Training Guide study material is available in English, South American Spanish, and Italian. CrossFit is continually in the process o translating its educational materials to other languages, so please check with sem seminars@crosst.com inars@crosst.com or the most up-to-date list o languages available. I we do not have the test or study material translated into into your primary language and you are not condent in your English comprehension, comprehension, we strongly urge you to consider attending at a later date when your primary language is available. I we do not have your language available and you still decide to test and ail, the test results will be nal and a $150.00 retest ee US Dollars will apply or your next attempt. 3.4 RETESTING: PARTICIPANT PARTICIPANT FAILS In the event that a participant ails to pass the CF-L1 test or opts not to take the test, he /she will have unlimited opportunities to retake the test during test sessions as scheduled by CrossFit, Inc. within one year rom the date o the initial attempt. Although the opportunities to retest in that year are unlimited, each retest costs $150.00 $150.00 US Dollars. Ater one year o o unsuccessul attempts to pass the test, an individual must re-attend the Level 1 Trainer Course. Fee or re-attendance is $500.00 US Dollars. 3.5 REVALI REVALIDATION: DATION: PARTICIPAN PARTICIPANT T PASSES In the event that a participant passes the CrossFit Level 1 Certicate Test, the participant’s certicate is valid or 5 years rom the date o issue. Ater the 5 years, to revalidate the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certicate, the course must be re-attended and the test passed. Fee or revalidating an expired certicate is $500.00 US US Dollars. 3.6 PARTICIPANT CANCELLATION, TEST OR FEE REFUND, OR FAILURE TO APPEAR CrossFitt does not accommodate requests or reunds or transers or courses or tests. Under extreme circumstances CrossFi cancellations cancellat ions by the registered participant may be accepted and reunds or transers accommodated. accommodated.
Registrants who do not attend the course or sit or the test and do not request a reund oreit all ees. I a registrant has missed the course or test due to emergency or hards hardship hip they may contact seminars@crosst.com seminars@crosst.com.. Approvals or reunds and transers will be made on a case-by-case basis. 3.7 COURSE CANCELLATION In the case where CrossFit needs to cancel the course due to circumstances outside o our control e.g., natural disaster, we will reund all course ees. CrossFi CrossFitt is not responsible or any lost travel costs. 3.8 AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT Special arrangements shall be provided to participants with a disability as dened by Section 3 o the Americans with Disabilities Act ADA ADA who submit, with their course registration, a written explanation o their needs along with appropriate appropriat e medical documentation. Forms to use when applying or accommodations are included in the Forms section o this Handbook Section 8.2, under ADA Accommodations Request Section 4.3.

TAKING THE TEST 4.1 TEST ADMINISTRATION 4.1 CF-L1 tests are administered at all Level 1 Course locations throughout the United States and internationally. For a list o Level 1 and Test Only locations locatio ns and availability, see se e Crosst.com Crosst.com.. 4.2 TEST CONDITIONS Due to the nature o CrossFit acilities, testing conditions and accommodations accommodations may be more austere and/or quirky than typically ound at other testing acilities. Not all acilities will have classrooms classrooms;; however CrossFit does require host acilities to have enough tables or clipboards or all participants taking the test. Participants concerned with environmental environmental conditions aecting their results must communicate this to the course Lead Instructor prior to the star t o the test . Our instructors will do all they can to accommodate participant needs and nd comortable arrangements or the test. I needs or concerns are not communicated beore the test begins, the ability to appeal based on test conditions will be oreited . 4.3 AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT Reasonable accommodations accommodations or testing shall be provided at no cost to participants with special medical/learning needs who submit, with their registration, a written exp lanation o their needs nee ds to seminars@crosst.com seminars@crosst.com,, along with appropriat appropriate e medical documentation. CrossFit CrossFit will not reimburse costs associated with obtaining this do cumentati cumentation. on. Last minute requests cannot be guaranteed or approval. 4.4 TEST ADMISSION PROCEDURES Participants must be registered or a Level 1 Course in order to sit or the test. No retest participants will be accepted at the door.
Once registered to take the course, participants will be sent an email conrmation and receipt. The conrmation will contain the participant’s name, the course location, the date o the course and test, and the participant’s reerence number. Participants must print and bring this conrmation to the course and test. Organization o participants, distribution o test materials, and testing instructions will begin promptly at the p osted start time. The total testing testing time is is 60 minutes, minutes, not including time time or instructions instructions and materials materials collection. collection. For entry to the course, participants must present a government-issued photo ID such as a valid driver’s license along with their registration receipt. Course attendance is a pre-requisite or on-site testing. Participants without a conrmation receipt, receipt, government-issued government-issued photo ID, or who miss part o the course will NOT be permitted to take the test, and their ees will be oreited Section 2.3. 4.5 TEST HANDLING CrossFitt will take all available precautions to ensure the appropriate and secure handling o completed tests. In the rare CrossFi and extreme case in which the tests become lost or unreadable, participants will be required to undergo retesting retesting but will not be charged a retest ee. Participants will be responsible or their own travel-associa travel-associated ted expenses i travel is required or such a retest. 4.6 TEST IRREGULARITIE S Any problems, suspected instances o cheating, alleged inappropria inappropriate te test administrat administration, ion, environmental testing conditions severe enough to cause disruption o the process, or other irregularities related to test administration should be addressed to the on-site proctors immediately. All such matters will be repor ted, investigated, investigated, and subject to urther action ac tion based on policies and procedures adopted by CrossFit.

Participants may not communicate communicate with other participants par ticipants during the test. Proctors are authorized to maintain a secure and proper test administration environment, environment, including relocation or expulsion o participants or guests. Participants who must leave the testing room during the test must receive permission rom the proctor and will be escorted while outside the testing room. Participants will not be allowed additional time to make up or time lost. 4.8 VIOLATING TEST RULES I a participant is caught violating testing rules, the participant will be dismissed rom the test site and may be declared permanently ineligible or uture CrossFit courses and tests. Test proctors are authorized to take immediate and appropriate appropriat e measures against participants who are caught violating testing rules.
Receipt, possession, or transmission o CrossFit test materials, either beore the test, on-site, or in the uture, including test questions in any orm, is a breach o CrossFit policy and is strictly orbidden. CrossFit reserves the right to take whatever measures it deems necessary to protect the integrity o its tests. This could include, but would not ne cessarily be limited to, exclusion exclusion rom a current course and test and uture courses and tests, and suit or recovery o damages.

5.2 PASSING Participants who pass the Level 1 Certicate test will be awarded a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer Certicate, a sample o which is displayed below:

5.4 CERTIFICATE EXPIRATION CrossFit’s inormation and methods continually evolve and improve with time. To ensure that individuals using CrossFit’s training methods are current in their understanding o CrossFit’s methodology and movement inormation, CrossFit’s CrossFit’s Level 1 Certicate expires ater ve years rom the date o issue. At the end o that period, a trainer must retake the Level 1 Certicate Course and pass the test in order to re-attain his or her qualication and use the CF-L1 Trainer designation. 5.5 INVALIDA INVALIDATION TION OF A CERTIFICATE CERTIFICATE A certicate issued can be invalidated only under the condition that the certicate holder is ound not to have ullled the program’s requirements, including but not limited to attempting to attain the certicate through an unair advantage or alsication or orgery o personal inormation.

Neither by itsel is considered the entire material material rom which the questions are derived. 7.5 TEST-TAKING STRATEG IES We recommend that participants read each question careully and be sure to pay attention to key phrases like ‘best,’ ‘most important,’ ‘least,’ etc. Try not to overanalyze the test questions; they are written to be as straightorward as possible. While more than one answer may contain correct CrossFit CrossFit terminology or methodolog y, there is only one correct answer in relation to the question. We are looking or the most obvious answer.
