↓ The Bachelor of Science in Biology program of Cavite State University is designed arm the students with skills necessary to provide extension services to various clienteles and to prepare them in conducting basic and applied researches relevant to college thrust (Cavite State University website). As part of its curriculum, junior standing students are required to undergo an On-the-Job Training (OJT) program for 160 hours within the months of June and July. This gives students the chance to apply theories, ideas and skills obtained from the University to an actual work setting. This can also let them experience career realities, using real tools, equipment, and documents, that can serve as training ground for them to become professionals in their chosen field.

Accommodating on-the-job trainees can truly be beneficial not only to the trainees but also to the companies that provide opportunities for this type of learning. There is wisdom in the front lines. Such training can be an investment that will be valuable to the company later on. This is also why trainees should take it seriously as it can become a powerful tool and possibly even a source of recommendation when they take that big lift from being students to career professionals (Source citation). ↑ 3 Single Spaces
↓ Significance of OJT Undergoing an On-the-Job Training entails a number of benefits not only to the part of the company, but to the part of the students, definitely, as well. OJT is very important not only to teach students regarding their chosen career but also to let them experience career realities, using real tools, equipments and documents; that can serve as training ground which can help them to become professionals in their respective fields. On the other hand, an effective OJT program also benefits the companies who accommodate trainees by providing additional manpower for a lesser or no labor cost at all. Trainees can also bring fresh ideas into the institution by speaking their minds freely and without fear, thus, may able to contribute significantly to help improve the productivity of the company. Based on the performance, behavior and attitude exhibited by the student during his/her training, the company may then offer or absorb him/her for a job. Additionally, this may also serve as a powerful source of recommendation in giving the student a great job after completion of his/her college degree.

THE LINKAGE INSTITUTION ↑ 3 Single Spaces
↓ Department of Science and Technology (DOST) The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is the premiere science and technology body in the country charged with the twin mandate of providing central direction, leadership and coordination of all scientific and technological activities, and of formulating policies, programs and projects to support national development. Originally established as the National Science and Development Board (NSDB) on June 13, 1958, it was reconstituted as the National Science and Technology Authority (NSTA) on March 17, 1981 with the vision of "A competent and competitive science and technology community with a social conscience." With the agency's elevation to full cabinet stature by virtue of Executive Order 128 signed on January 30, 1987, DOST's functions and responsibilities were further expanded to enable it to pursue the declared state policy to support local scientific and technological efforts, develop local capability to achieve technological self-reliance, promote public and private sector partnership in S & T activities, and encourage the private sector to take a greater role in R & D activities. Pursuant to the provisions of Section 31 of EO 128, the DOST is also authorized to establish regional or field extension offices as may be necessary. Three years later, the Provincial S & T Centers (PSTCs) were created through Republic Act No. 6959 on July 31, 1990, which lead to the establishment of PSTCs in every province of the country attached under the Regional Offices.
