Last June 2015, we invited student writers interested or with experience in campus journalism to join the organization. The election o" the new set o" &us Journalism o""icers "ollowed. Then all the mem!ers were assigned to cover events and school activities through the school ear. The also underwent seminar on writing to review their writing s(ills. &us photo journalists were also assigned to ta(e pictures together with the assigned writers. The were as(ed to su!mit articles a wee( a"ter the event or cele!ration to avoid congestion o" deadlines. $ide ! side their their writing writing assignments assignments were were their individua individuall training training "or their assigned writing events "or #$%&. To maximize teacher participation to their prepar preparati ation, on, we tapped tapped some some )nglis )nglish h teache teachers rs to !e teache teacher* r* coache coachess o" the students. The coaches were !rie"ed o" their responsi!ilities and the challenge that awaits everone. &oaches met their student writers and agreed upon schedule the have to (eep "or their training. +t is expected that student writers o!serve the schedule and the coaches ta(e care o" the students assigned to them. The coaches prepared training materials to use in the training.
' cto!er 2015, the campus journalists underwent a special training with experienced trainers. -ore writing materials were provided and more lectures were conducted "or "urther exposure to the competition. cto!er 22, 2015 was the date "or #$%& held at 'alingasag &entral $chool, while 'roadcasting )nglish and 3ilipino !oth elementar and high school was held /lu!ijid 6ational &omprehensive 7igh $chool. The result o" the #$%& in our school are as "ollow 1 st place $ports writing* )nglish, ninth place in )ditorial cartooning 8 )nglish, 2nd in &olla!orative 9riting 8 )nglish, 10th place in 'roadcasting* )nglish. %rincess #ael, 1 st %agwawasto and ogelli )manel, 1st in sports writing* )nglish !oth :uali"ied in the egional $chools %ress &on"erence. /lthough, we didn;t get to represent in the national level, !ut the experience in the $%& in ro:uieta &it was alread ver rewarding. The students; assignments in covering school events and cele!rations were not et over. /t the end o" 3e!ruar 201<, the school would !e printing the "irst issue o" the school paper this school ear. 9e hope that next ear, we will see more students :uali"ing in the $%& and !e a!le to represent in the national level.

3or this school ear J67$ )nglish department aimed to improve at the "ollowing areas= Teaching*learning process= students; outcomes= communit involvement= pro"essional growth and development. 3or the teaching*learning process, with the close monitoring o" the principal hand in hand with the respective su!ject area coordinator, in the person o" -rs. 'ernadette 6. &agata, 100> o" the teachers made and su!mitted their lesson plans on time. $tudents; attendance and !ehavior were closel monitored. Teachers conducted home visitations to students who showed signs o" dropping out and those that showed indi""erence towards their students. $ome teachers also conducted parent*teacher con"erence to investigate on this matter. /ttendance and even tardiness were chec(ed ever period. Teachers also gave special assignments to students who lagged !ehind to give them chance to catch up with the class. The teachers; class records were also chec(ed ! the principal to monitor teachers; use o" the prescri!ed to 12 grading sstem with the use o" the e*class record. /lthough some teachers "ound this convenient, !ut those who aren;t well versed on the computer use "ound this a challenge. Teachers were indeed reminded to ma(e use o" all possi!le was to help students improve their per"ormance. Teacher class o!servations were also conducted to also monitor teachers; per"ormance and conduct o" classes. #espite the monitoring and evaluation o" the teachers, still some students !adl need help. $ome have di""icult in reading silentl and even orall. &omprehension level also tells another stor. )nglish teachers emploed varied was to alleviate these pro!lems. $ome o" the activities conducted were read*a* thon, remedial reading at convenient time, oral reading, comprehension testing, writing a paragraph*a*da, spelling, voca!ular enrichment. $ome students
responded in the given interventions, some still sh awa "rom the given activities. /ctivities ma have !een provided, !ut the were not 100> guarantee to e""ectivel help ever student at*ris(. The intervention program is a slow process that also wor(ed with the attitude o" the students. /side "rom helping students*at*ris(, the )nglish department also made sure that students develop their macro s(ills and talents. $ome !ecame o""icers in the )nglish clu!, some participated in the campus journalism and still some were con"ident enough to participate in the di""erent school activities and competitions !e it in schools or inter*school. The school also participated in the )nglish )xtravaganza held at $ala &entral $chool. 9e joined the Jazz chants competition and the )xtemporaneous $pea(ing contest. 9e ran(ed ? th and 2nd accordingl. %T/ meetings were also held in order to esta!lish connection and communication !etween the home and the school. 4rades and attendance were openl discussed and closel monitored. -ost parents come and see their children;s advisers and cooperated with the advisers. $till a "ew need to !e home visited= even the parents needed to !e helped. The department also made sure that teachers participate in the di""erent contests. The department coordinator see to it that teachers were given special assignments "or coaching and training contestants. To re"use these assignments is indeed discouraged. Lastl, the department also helped in coming up with the school paper "or this ear. $ome )nglish teachers assisted in the chec(ing and proo"reading o" the articles su!mitted ! the students to ma(e sure that it would !e grammaticall correct.
