1 General An ADR adapted vehicle must be able to transport dangerous goods in such a way that it does not cause and cannot aggravate a possible accident situation. The ADR legal requirements differ between countries but all are based on the ADR accord. Follow the regulations of the relevant country. In ADR certified trucks the main circuit breaker cuts the current to all systems in the truck except for the tachograph.
Caution! Switch off the parking heater before cutting the current. The parking heater may be damaged if left on when the current is cut. Note! Do not by-pass the main circuitbreaker. If the main circuit-breaker is by-passed the vehicle no longer fulfills the statutory requirements and safety demands.

When the ignition key is removed from the starter switch the current is initially cut after twenty minutes. If the parking lamps, parking heater or hazard warning lamps are on or if the air suspension is active (the control button not in the run position) the current will not be cut at all. T0010215
When the main current is cut all the systems on the vehicle are shut off, except for the tachograph.
Warning! Do not cut the current during a journey! When the current is cut the engine and important systems are switched off.

Tachograph 1324 Indicating instrument
Charts Sensor 2170
The new tachograph 1324 sets new standards in performance, technology, and design due to its modular design with separate display and recording. The tachograph 1324, which is in DIN radio compartment format, is an innovative system component.
Within the immediate field of view of the driver, there is an approved indicating instrument with analogous vehicle speed pointer, digital distance counter, time and trip odometer. The function monitor refers to messages of the tachograph 1324.
Driver 1 and driver 2 conveniently select the respective working time groups via the control keys.
Together with the intelligent sensor 2170, the system forms a reliable unit. The sensor provides real-time pulses and encoded data for recording the distance travelled and the vehicle speed.
Besides the date, time and distance travelled, the selected working time groups and the symbols of the inserted charts are clearly shown in the display. Failures at the device or of a system component will be signalled automatically. Like before, the vehicle speed and the distance travelled as well as the driver specific driving, working and break times are recorded on the tachograph chart.

Stopping the vehicle • Apply the parking brake. • Move the gear lever to neutral (the
gear lever must be in neutral in order to start the engine).
•
Stop the engine.
Note! The parking brake must always be applied when the vehicle is parked or if the driver leaves the driver’s seat for any other reason.
1:338 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
Driving Automatic shifting The simplest way of driving the vehicle under normal conditions is to use automatic (position ”A”). Gear changing takes place automatically and the driver can concentrate on the actual driving. When changing gear, the system will control the clutch, gearbox shifting and engine acceleration. The system selects the gear and the time for the gear change for optimum driving performance based on accelerator pedal position, vehicle weight, road inclination, vehicle acceleration, etc. It is possible to select a couple of gears up or down manually even in automatic mode. The arrows in the display specify how many steps it is possible to change up or down. Use the switch on the side of the lever to change gear. Note! When changing a gear, the accelerator pedal should not be released. T4011551

Gear hold This function is used in automatic mode only. The hold function can be used in all forward gears (1L to 6H). The hold function marked with an ”H” is located on the gear lever behind position ”A”. When the lever is moved to ”A”, the hold function ”H” is locked to prevent it from being engaged unintentionally. When gear changes are not desired (e.g. when driving uphill), the lever is moved from ”A” to the spring-back position ”H”. No further gear change will take place and the current gear will ”remain” engaged. The display shows an ”H”. To return to automatic mode, move the lever once more towards ”H”. If the engine speed drops towards idling, the hold function will be disengaged automatically and a lower gear will be engaged. The system will then return to the programme (E/P) that was active before the hold function was activated.
T4014981
Note! There is a risk of over-speeding when the hold function is used.

Driving programme There are three different driving programmes:
• • •
economy power braking
Economy The is always active when starting the motor (showed with an E in the display). The economy programme gives priority to fuel economy and is used when driving under normal conditions.
Power The power programme is activated and deactivated using the E/P button (see picture). The power programme is used when driving in hilly terrain requiring up and down gear changes at higher engine speeds than is normal with the economy programme.
Brakes The braking programme is engaged with the auxiliary brake lever. See the driver’s manual.

Driving Manual shifting You can select to drive only with manual shift or ”take over” from the automatic shifting system whenever necessary. The gear lever is used like a normal gear lever except that there is no clutch pedal. When engaging a gear, push the gear lever gently towards the desired position. Note! Do not press hard on the lever. The gear will not be engaged any faster.
High/low split On the left-hand side of the gear lever is a button for the manual selection of high/low split. The splitter gear is changed immediately when the spring-loaded button is released. The selected splitter gear is shown on the display. An up arrow indicates low split and a down arrow indicates high split. When the splitter gear and basic gear are changed simultaneously, the split can be pre-selected by holding in the button and moving the gear lever to the desired position.
High/low range High and low range is selected automatically by the system depending on the speed of the vehicle. Note! When changing gear, the accelerator pedal should not be released.

Driving
Reverse/crawl gears To prevent reverse or crawl gears being engaged unintentionally, the gear lever has a resistance built in.
Reverse gears The gearbox has four reverse gears (rL, rH, RL, RH). The vehicle must be stationary before the reverse gear can be engaged. Moving the gear lever to position ”R” preselects the low range and low split (rL) whereby the reverse gear can only be changed by using the button on the gear shaft. Note! The vehicle must be stationary before changing between low and high range. The splitter gear can be changed while driving, however.

Starting uphill/downhill Consideration must be taken to the incline of the hill and the gross weight of the vehicle/combination when selecting starting gear on hills.
•
The vehicle can be kept still using the parking brake or trailer brake.
• • •
Select a gear. Press the brake pedal. Release the brake once the clutch starts to pull.
Clutch The clutch is a ”dry plate clutch”, i.e. no converter. Therefore, never allow the clutch to slip in high gear when pulling away. The information lamp will come on and a symbol will appear on the display if the clutch overheats.

Declutching If a rapid declutching is desired, e.g. in slippery conditions, the gear lever should be moved to neutral.
1:346 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
Driving In case of gearbox malfunction The Geartronic system is equipped with a limp-home function that makes it possible to drive a short distance if there is a fault in the gearbox or clutch position sensor. Note! The limp-home function should only be used for short distances. The functions are activated by simultaneously pressing in button ”E/P” and moving the gear lever to position 1. The following functions are affected:
• • •
automatic mode is not available only low split is available only low range is available
The following gears can be used:
• • • •
reverse, low range/split (rLSLR) 1st gear, low split (1LS) 2nd gear, low split (2LS) 3rd gear, low split (3LS)
The limp-home function can be deactivated when the ignition is turned off.

Tape Player Care The tape player must be cleaned after every 35 hours of use.
Caution: Not cleaning the tape player can cause reduced sound quality and may ruin your cassettes or damage the player. Clean the player with a scrubbingaction, non-abrasive cleaning cassette. These cassettes have a bottle of cleaning liquid that is applied to cleaning pads and scrubs the tape heads. To properly clean your tape player, follow the instructions with the cleaning cassette. Cleaning cassettes should be replaced regularly. Note: The cleaning cassette is not included with your radio and must be purchased separately.
Never touch the cassette head with magnetic or hard objects. Do not lubricate the player mechanism. Do not use cassettes that are longer than 90 minutes (C-90). Longer cassettes, like C-120, tend to have thinner tape that may stretch or break and may damage your player.
Cassette Tape Care Do not use cassettes that are deformed, dirty or contaminated. Cassette tapes that are not properly stored in their plastic cases away from contaminants, direct sunlight and extreme heat may not operate properly and may damage your tape player. Cassette tapes are subject to wear and the sound quality may degrade over time. Always verify the cassette tape is in good condition before use.

the refrigerant circuit The refrigerator box is not intended for storing corrosive material or solvent Never cover the air channels or the ventilation openings Defrost in good time when you find ice forming in the refrigerator box Never use sharp tools to remove ice or to get out objects which have become frozen in
•
Never use detergent which contains abrasive agents, acid or solvent When the refrigerator box is to be discarded a specialist should be consulted regarding the recycling of the components included in it A quick charger may only be connected to the vehicle’s battery when the refrigerator box is disconnected
General The refrigerator box has a two-star freezer component, which is intended for storing deep-frozen food during short periods, and has a refrigerated space for storing drinks and other food and beverages which need cooling. The temperature is adjusted as required with the help of the control panel,
which is situated above the refrigerator box. The normal position is five blue light diodes lit up, which gives about -12 C in the freezer compartment, and +4 C in the refrigerated space, at normal surrounding temperature.
Area of use The refrigerator box is designed to cool and freeze food. If you wish to use it to cool medicines you must check that they meet the special requirements in force for cool-
komp-gbr Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
2:237
ing medical products. All material included in the refrigerator box is approved for contact with food. The refrigerant is freon free.
2 Starting the refrigerator box Hold down the switch marked ”ON/OFF” (1) for about 1 second. The green light diode (2) lights up and the compressor starts. The compressor will only start when the battery voltage exceeds 24.2 Volts. If the battery voltage is lower than this, the green light diode (2) begins to flash. For further information, see “Voltage protector” page 3. T0010488
Adjust the temperature by holding down the temperature selector marked ”TEMP” (3). The blue light diodes (4) light up one after the other, and repeats this as long as the temperature selector is held down. Select the temperature by releasing the temperature selector when the correct number of light diodes is lit. The more blue diodes that are lit, the lower the temperature in the refrigerator box. The normal level is five lit blue light diodes, which gives about -12 C in the freezer compartment, and +4 C in the refrigerator compartment at normal surrounding temperature.
Switching off the refrigerator box Hold down the switch marked ”ON/OFF” for about 1 second. The green light diode goes out and the compressor stops. If the refrigerator box is not going to be used for a period of time, it should be cleaned thoroughly. See “Cleaning” page 3. After cleaning, the lid should be held wide open for at least 24 hours so that all the vapour vanishes and no bad smells occur.
2:238 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine
3 Voltage protector To protect the battery against overdischarging, the compressor is shut down automatically if the voltage drops too low. If the battery voltage has been too low, the green light diode on the control panel flashes and the compressor will not start. The voltage protector activates at 22.8 V
and restarts again at 24.2 V. If the green light diode flashes despite the battery voltage being normal, this is because the voltage was too low earlier. In that case, start the vehicle’s engine to create a voltage stop which will automatically reset the voltage protector.
Tipping the cab Before the cab is tipped, the refrigerator box should be emptied of its contents and switched off
Cleaning Clean the refrigerator box with a cloth with lukewarm water and ordinary washing-up liquid. Make sure that it does not force water into the packing or into the switch. Then
dry with a dry cloth. Clean the refrigerator box both inside and outside at regular intervals or as soon as it becomes dirty.
Defrosting The moisture in the air can cause ice to form on the evaporator, which reduces the refrigerating capacity. Defrost in good time by taking out all food and putting it another refrigerator or freezer space so that it keeps cold. Switch off the refrigerator box. Keep
the lid open. Let the ice melt and then mop and dry up the water thoroughly. Clean with a cloth with lukewarm water and ordinary washing-up liquid, and it is ready to be used.
Interior lighting The refrigerator box has interior lighting which lights up automatically when the lid is opened. The light bulb is changed by
freeing the entire lighting fitting, by turning forwards/downwards. The light bulb is of type C5W 24V SV 8.5.
Fault tracing If the refrigerator box does not work, first check that the voltage protector has not activated. See “Voltage protector” page 3 for

action. If the fault persists, contact your Volvo dealer.
4 Tips on saving energy • Let warm goods cool down properly •
before you put them in the refrigerator box Defrost as soon as you discover an amount of ice formed on the evaporator

General The refrigerator contains a cold storage area for storing drinks and foodstuffs which require refrigeration. The temperature is adjusted as required using a control panel
which is located in the door. Normal position is five lit blue LEDs which give approximately +6C in the cold storage area at normal ambient temperatures.

Select the temperature by releasing the temperature switch when the correct number of LEDs are lit. The more blue diodes that are lit, the lower the temperature in the refrigerator. Normal position is five lit blue LEDs which give approximately +6C in the cold storage area at normal ambient temperatures.
T0010488
Switch off the refrigerator Hold the switch marked ”ON/OFF” in for approximately 1 second. The green LED goes out and the compressor stops. The refrigerator must be carefully cleaned if it is not to be used for some time. See “Cleaning” page 3. After cleaning the door must be left wide open for at least 24 hours so that all the moisture dries out and no bad odours occur.

3 Voltage switch If the voltage is too low the compressor switches off automatically to prevent deep discharging of the battery. If the battery voltage is, or has been, too low the green LED on the control panel flashes and the compressor does not start. The voltage switch trips at 22.8 V and restarts at
24.2 V. If the green LED flashes despite the voltage being normal it means that the voltage has previously been too low. In this case start the vehicle engine to create a voltage peak which will automatically reset the voltage trip switch.
Tilting the cab The refrigerator must be emptied of all contents and switched off before the cab is tilted
Cleaning Clean the refrigerator using a cloth with warm water and normal washing up detergent. Ensure that no water penetrates the
gaskets or the switch. Dry off using a dry cloth. Clean the refrigerator inside and out regularly or as soon as it becomes dirty.
Defrosting Moisture in the air can cause ice formation on the walls of the refrigerator which causes the cooling effect to deteriorate. Defrost in good time. Remove all foodstuffs and place them in another refrigerated environment so that they remain cold. Switch off the refrigerator. Allow the door to stand open. When the ice melts most of the melt
water runs down the drainage hole which is furthest in, in the centre of the refrigerator. Check that the drainage hole is not blocked. Then wipe up the remainder of the water. Clean using a cloth, warm water and normal washing up detergent. The refrigerator is now ready for use.
Interior lighting The refrigerator has interior lighting which lights up automatically when the door is opened. The bulb is replaced by removing
the whole lighting unit by twisting to the left. The bulb type is C5W 24V SV 8.5.
Fault-tracing If the refrigerator does not function first check that the voltage switch has not tripped. See “Voltage switch” page 3 for

Central lubrication
1
Central lubrication The central lubrication system automatically performs the lubrication that is otherwise carried out at the vehicle service. The advantages of this is that you get a more even lubrication at all locations and the service occasions are fewer.
The lubrication is carried out while driving with an interval of 9 hours. If the vehicle has been stationary more than 48 hours the lubrication is activated when the vehicle is started.
Manual lubrication The central lubrication system can be activated manually with a switch under the pump’s plastic casing on the main unit. If uncertain about the function of the central lubrication system, check the central lubrication system’s fuse and do the lubrication manually.
1
Start the engine.
2
Press in the switch under the plastic casing on the central lubrication system’s main unit.
3
The pump motor should be then active for approx. 2 minutes.
Filling up of lubricant Important! It is extremely important that the right equipment and the correct grease quality are used when filling so that dirt does not get into the system.
Filling up is carried out via the nipple, under of the pump plastic casing on the central unit, with the tool intended for this.

Operating Instructions TM Particulate filter CRT
Important! This vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter which requires that a fuel with a low sulphur content (less than 50 ppm = 0.005% sulphur) is used. Use of fuel with a higher sulphur content or mixing in other fuel can destroy the particulate filter in a short time. Normally it is not necessary to take into consideration the fact that the vehicle has a particulate filter. Long periods of driving (several hours) with a low engine load or long periods of idling can, however, cause problems in that the soot in the filter does not burn due to low exhaust temperature. The particulate filter greatly reduces the emission of particulates (PM), hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO). A proportion of the nitrogen oxides (NOx) in the exhaust gases from the engine are converted in the catalytic converter to nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which helps to burn the soot particulates which are caught by the filter. The total content of NOx remains unchanged, but the proportion of NO2 increases. NO2 can, in moderate concentrations, irritate the respiratory passages and aggravate asthma. However, the particulate filter does contribute to a considerably improved environment on account of its capacity to considerably reduce the quantity of particulates, hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide. Important! The fact that the vehicle is equipped with a particulate filter does not mean that it can be used in some other way than a vehicle without a particulate filter. The exhaust gases are still not healthy to breathe in, i.e., make sure that there is ventilation when the vehicle is idling. An exhaust extractor hose must be connected to the exhaust opening if the engine is to be driven in an enclosed space. Important! With each oil change the filter insert should be taken out, cleaned and turned. Contact a Volvo workshop for service.
