- is one that promotes thrift among mem bers and creates funds in order to grant loans for productive and provident purposes . - is a group of people who pool their savings and lend to each other from the accumulated funds at low interest rates. - is also called credit unions, established by Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen are referred to as the Raiffeisen type of banks. Primary Cooperative

Secondary Cooperative - is a group of primary cooperative like federations . 3. Tertiary Cooperative - is composed of secondaries upward to one or more apex organizations.
As defined by the CDA in its Memorandum Circular-No.93-002, series 1993 thus: Apex organization may be a federation or a union whose members are registered secondary/tertiary or higher level cooperative organizations.
In terms of territory
-cooperatives are categorized according to their areas of operations, which may or may not coincide with the political subdivisions of the country. DEFINITION OF TERMS A cooperative is a duly registered association of persons, with a common bond of interest, who have voluntary joined together to achieve a lawful common social economic end, making equitable contributions to the capital required and accepting a fair share of the risks and benefits of the undertaking in accordance with universally accepted cooperative principles.
