Direct Acting Steam PRV
Series 800 Regulators Series 810 Direct Acting
The Series 810 direct-acting regulators are ideal for pressure control of equipment with low to medium capacities, providing a lower cost, compact solution to the steam pressure control of autoclaves, steam irons, laundry mangles and sterilizers. Series 810 regulators are used to reduce the steam pressure from distribution lines (100-200 psig) to lower operating pressures (10-140 psig).

Main Advantages Excellent Tight Shut-Off, obtained through a pivoted disc lapped against the seat until obtaining Class IV or better sealing. Built to last longer than most valves of similar construction, using high quality materials, CNC machining, individual hydrostatic testing and individual leakage testing, Series 810 regulators are guaranteed a long and trouble-free operation.

Sizing the Regulator To correctly size the Series 810 regulator for your process, please follow the example below. EXAMPLE: A steam cooker with a 45 psig design pressure requires a PRV to lower the inlet pressure from 125 psig to 30 psig, while consuming 600 lbs/hr of steam. Choose the correct PRV size, so that the shut-off pressure does not exceed 40 psig, while being able to provide the capacity and regulated pressure required. Subcritical Flow P2 P > .58 P1 1
Critical Flow P2 P .58 P1 1 Saturated Steam
W C v 1.71P 1
W C v 2. 1 P ( P 1 P 2 )
Formula Key ? P =
Pressure drop (P1 - P2) P1 = Inlet pressure (psia) P2 = Outlet pressure (psia)
Superheated Steam W (1 .0007T SH ) .0007T SH ) W (1 C v C v 1.75 P 1 P ( P 1 P 2 ) 2.1
TSH =
Steam superheat (°F) W = Steam flow (lbs/hr) Psia = psi+14.7
Step 1: Calculate the required CV as shown on the table above. Make sure you identify whether your application is Subcritical or Critical Flow. In the present example, P2 =0.32 which is less than 0.58 therefore we use the critical flow equation, as follows: P1 W
P1 = 125+14.7=139.4 , C V =
600
=
1.71 x P 1
Step 2:
= 2.5
1.71 x 139.4
Apply a safety factor of 1.2 to the calculated CV value: Required C V = 1.2 x 2.5 = 3.0
Step 3: Using the 10-30 spring range curve in each of the graphs below, we enter each graph through the 3.0 C V value line, and we observe the following: Size Droop(psig)

Increase Productivity with a proper selection of a steam PRV
Many companies around the world are limiting their productivity with low capacity PRV’s, that considerably reduce the steam flow into their equipment. Batch cooking processes are typical examples of this situation.
Example: A company that manufactures cooked rice, required a total of 300 lbs of 30 psi saturated steam to cook each batch of rice
