This is a Students Houses, Residences and Rooms Guide provided by the International Student Mobility Division after visiting many places and meeting its owners. It is important you keep these recommendations in mind:
Don’t wait until you get to Lima to find housing . Many places have pictures and information online, exchange e-mails with the housing managers, ask for photos and compare offers while still in your homeland.
In case you get to Lima without ho using and don’t feel confident about your Spanish skills yet, ask your Compañero PUCP to join you in your visits so that he or she can be a good translator translator with wi th the owner or manager. manager.
Once you evaluate a housing choice ask for a little tour around the place and for the services included in the price (private or shared bathroom, use of kitchen, weekly cleaning, internet access, laundry, etc.).
Don’t forget to ask for the rules (visits, etc) .
Be clear with the leasing contract conditions you are signing for (payment dates, refundable deposits). You need to know that the owner of the place is not supposed to make you stay there for the whole semester. If you want to leave at any time you should be able to do it so don’t sign any contract that says the opposite.
It is a good idea to take a photo of the room and bathroom in the state you are leasing them (for the deposit refund at the end of your stay).
Ask for a copy of the contract once you sign it and also a receipt signed by the manager or owner o wner for every payment you make.
Have the name, telephone and address of the owner or manager in case there is an emergency and you are away from the house. He/she will probably ask the same from you, like your passport number or emergency contact for the same reason.
