Hotel and Resort

Hotel: A hotel is a place that offers you lodgings and meals. Persons who travel from one place to another place with a purpose will book into hotels Resort: Resorts are places or towns or commercial establishments that provide relaxation and recreation. It serves- Food, Drink, Lodging, Sports, Entertainment, Relaxation i.e. spa and shopping.

Difference between Resort and Hotel: 1. hotels are meant for short stay whereas resorts are meant for longer stay. 2.Hotels are normally located in popular destinations, Resorts are places or towns or commercial establishments that provide relaxation and recreation. 3.Usually Hotels area are smaller than Resort 4.Now a days High-rise hotels are being popular but resorts are generally one or two stayed.

04 COURTYARD A court or courtyard is an enclosed area, often a space enclosed by a building that is open to the sky.

Atrium: In architecture, an atrium (plural: atria or atriums) is a large open space located within a building.

Double loaded corridor . A hallway that has apartments, condo units or offices on both side

Single loaded corridor . A hallway that has apartments, condo units or offices on only one side

Similar with overlap housing the elevator core and service areas. Dictates the location of main and service elevators. Internal gross factor 23-25% Offset slab

Rooms on inner radius difficult to plan with restricted bathroom widths minimum practical radius 30 m. Example: Arvali Hotel Curved or segmented slab

Basic Form Atrium creates large interior space with controlled environment, allows open corridors, transparent elevators and natural lighting to central public spaces. Utilization of floor areas is low but may be increased by the use of in line suites or wing extensions (as shown).HVAC design, fire control, smoke removal/pressure ventilation and evacuation routes require detailed consideration.

Example: Mint Hotel Tower London Atrium with extended wings

Allows better utilization of site. The space between the wings may be partially enclosed with a glass atrium. Wings may be extended round to from a quadrangle. Example: Oijard Hotel

L extended slab

Triangular plan shapes allow more room variations but a triangular core is usually less efficient. Example: Oriental Singapore

Basic Form

Lower utilization of perimeter. Requires higher ratio of staircase exits. Example: Ozadi Hotel

T or Y extended slab

Circular or segmented plans are more efficient but give narrow room entrances and bathrooms. Example: Ordos Hilton hotel

Tower: circular plan

Towers require large core structures with single loaded corridor. Space utilization is higher with 16-24 rooms/floor. Internal gross factor 34-36%. With rectangular plans corridor extensions are usually required to corner rooms. Example: Carehotel Middlepunt Tower: rectangular plan

Design Consideration

1. Attractive appearance: Reflect the architecture of that area ,have character of the services being provided in that Hotel. 2. Efficient Plan: services should be so designed that it meets various principles of lay-out and design. 3. Location: guided by the geographical location of the Hotel A Hotel is situated near the airport or railway station, the reception of the Hotel will be designed in such a way that it could handle large number of guests at one time because there is a possibility of guest checking in large groups and around the clock. Similarly, Hotel situated at hill stations, beaches and the Hotels located in heart of the cities and metros will be designed differently.

4. Suitable Material: locally available, cost effective. 5. Workmanship: available workmanship, designer should take advantage of local expertise. This will not only make the hotel efficient but also will be economical. 6. Sound Financing: One of the very important factors is finance in designing the Hotel. The availability of ready funds and management of finance is a crucial factor and it should be considered very carefully in Hotel Design. 7. Competent Management: The design of a Hotel will depend upon the quality of management available to operate the establishment. If we have the quality management and manpower only then Hotel should be designed for sophisticated equipment and high tech gadgets.
