-Fundamental para el comentario de Philomel Cottage. In the introduction we must include: Respect to the source we have to say the story is from Agatha Christie (UK) which is the most reader writer after Shakespeare, the most important in her stories are the content not the style. Her stories are polite in spite of being related with crime and detective stuff. -Influences: C. Doyle. -She spent a lot time alone during her childhood in an isolate house. She lived in a large house and very commodious. -She was a nurse (she knew about poisons, she was insane when she suffered when she got divorced. -In the introduction we must say what the theme is but we have to say the theme of the whole story. Because is very difficult to extract a theme of one or two paragraphs.
-We must also say the Froyd ’s influence ( at the beginning of the 20th century). Main body: -we have to locate the story, we have to speak about what is before and after (journey to London, the price of the house, Dick phoned her, jealousy, newspapers ….) -This fragment is just after the climax. -we can divide this fragment: (l.1-4): Alix decides to go away 2 parts
(l-4 until the end): her reaction
-We must say how the narrator is. In this case heterodiegetic, 3º person; limitated point of view -Free
indirect
speech
(pensamientos
prácticamente) Por ejemplo:
“She

must get away at once ”, Psychonarration “she
thought she must get away at once ”// “Yes, it was her husband-Narrative modes: report -The setting: P. Cottage isolation -Time short sentences
“not
time to be lost ”
“hurriedly”.
We have scene-time
(discurso e historia; los dos por igual) -Characters: Protagonist- Alix (she is described implicitly in this paragraph but but she appears also explicitly)

She thinks everything is against her. She is quite worried meanwhile Gerald seems so happy. There are two possibilities: maybe he is happy because he has just married or he is happy because finally he is going to kill her. The antagonist can be both of them (it depends) Alix is a multi-dimensional character, dynamic. -Unreliable description (we have Alix as a focaliser). Diction. -Simile, repetition of images, hyperbole. -Words “object”, for example when Alix speaks about an object and later we know that it isa spade. -Words related with danger tiptoe, the curtain -Syntax: short sentences and also long ones when she has to be more careful and she walks slowly. We have also repetition of the content( when we are nervous we repeat everything), suspension points. Rhetorical devices: Hyperbole (l.10, 11 ( an object …, the heart almost stop …) Synecdoche (the roof; the whole for the part) Onomatopeia (l.10) Alliteration (l.7,8…)
