1. Wr Write ite a blog blog post to present present the the most importan importantt aspects of of the Direct Direct Method Method which can be used in a contemporary EFL classroom (5 words!. "a#e you e#er seen a lesson using Direct Method of teaching$ Maybe you are not sure if this method wor%s$ Let me e&plain what it is and why it is worth using in your classroom. Direct Method was presented as a response to 'rammar ranslation Method. )t has many different names* for e&le you can encounter such names as a natural method+ phonetical method+ reform method and anti, grammatical method. Last two are paying attention to grammar translation method which was considered as not effecti#e and inade-uate. )t did not gi#e enough de#elopment of spea%ing and listening which are considered as acti#e s%ills. Founders of this methods wanted to use as much target language as it is possible+ but also use as little grammar e&planation as they can. hat is why conte&t is the %ey to learn a second language using Direct Method. )n this method+ we use only nati#e language to present the meaning and concept. here should be no use of the mother tongue. )t is essential to teach students to thin% in the target language+ not their first one+ to a#oid translation and ma%ing mista%es. ecause grammar e&planations are not used in this method+ e#erything should be presented and demonstrated. his gi#es students the opportunity to learn new language spontaneously and naturally+ li%e children learn their mother tongue. /obody e&plains young children what tenses they ha#e to use. hey simply hear+ imitate and connect language with e#eryday situations. he same should happen in a classroom where Direct Method is used. ecause of no use of grammar rules+ students ha#e to induce grammar. )t means that a teacher has to gi#e many e&les and appropriate conte&t+ and students need to figure out the meaning of it. )t re-uires much from a teacher because he has to prepare situations and conte&ts and be ready to e&tend it if students are not able to understand him. ranslation is forbidden+ only demonstration is allowed0 What is more+ Direct Method emphasies phonetics and sounds. )n speech it is #ery important to pronounce words correctly+ so there is no misunderstanding. )n addition+ simple sentences should be used by students. E#eryday speech is not complicated and formal* they should %now how to communicate easily. he same goes with #ocabulary. 2nly basic+ useful #ocabulary should be taught. 3tudents do not need 41 or 4 le#el #ocabulary for e#eryday
communication. )t is e#en better when teaching #ocabulary is topical. )t means that the syllabus should put emphasis on topics and situations rather than structures. 6nother essential thing about this method is self, correction. hey need to learn to correct themsel#es and try to find out what the correct form of the language is. 3elf,correction gi#es them independence and autonomy. hey hey learn through their own mista%es. 2#erall+ you can see that it sounds as a perfect way to teach a second language. E#erything should go smoothly and easily if all aspects of Direct Method are included. 2f course+ it is not a perfect way of learning a language for e#eryone. )f you want to see how such lessons loo% li%e+ google Direct Method #ideos and lesson plans. ) hope it was useful0
