0. Resumen En este estudio se realiza un repaso descriptivo del tren de rodaje de los vehículos ferroviarios y, dentro de este campo, del bogie y sus componentes. También se presentan los diseños de bogies más utilizados tanto para vehículos de pasajeros como para vehículos de mercancías y para tranvías, se establecen unos criterios para la selección de parámetros parámetros de suspensión en en vehículos y, por último, último, se muestran los diseños avanzados de bogie o, dicho de otra forma, hacia dónde avanza en la actualidad la investigación y el desarrollo de la tecnología del tren de rodaje. 1. Introducción Este estudio toma como referencia fundamental el Capítulo 3 del Manual de Dinámica Ferroviaria, “Handbook of Railway Vehicle Dynamics”, editado por Simon Iwnicki (Ref.:01). (Ref.:01). Este capítulo 3 está dedicado al tren de rodaje de los vehículos ferroviarios, textualmente se titula: “The Anatomy of Railway Vehicle: Running Gear”, y fue elaborado por Anna Orlova y Yuri Boronenko; y comienza por definir sus funciones elementales y hacer una descripción general de su tecnología habitual para pasar a continuación a presentar presentar al bogie como elemento elemento central para desarrollar el el estudio de este tema. Por tanto el capítulo pasa a definir y describir los componentes de los bogies, el diseño habitual de estos elementos en vehículos de pasajeros, mercancías y tranvías, los principios fundamentales para la selección de parámetros de la suspensión y a presentar diseños avanzados avanzados de bogies. El objeto de nuestro estudio es realizar un resumen de los temas desarrollados en el capítulo tratando de explicar sus contenidos de la forma más comprensible y sencilla posible. Para ello se utilizará el mismo esquema del documento de referencia extrayendo tanto sus contenidos básicos como los gráficos o datos que se estimen necesarios. 2. Funciones principales del tren de rodaje y terminología La diferencia principal entre un vehículo ferroviario y otros tipos de vehículos de transporte es el sistema de guiado. La superficie de los carriles no sólo sirve de apoyo a las ruedas sino que también las guía lateralmente. Los carriles y las agujas cambian la dirección de rodadura de las ruedas y así determinan la dirección la dirección de desplazamiento del vehículo ferroviario. El tren de rodaje es el sistema que proporciona el movimiento seguro del vehículo a lo largo de las vías. Este sistema incluye componentes tales como juegos de ruedas con cajas de grasa, la suspensión elástica, los frenos, la tracción y los dispositivos para transmitir las fuerzas de tracción y frenado al cuerpo del vehículo. Sus principales funciones son:
La transmisión y la distribución de la carga vertical de las ruedas del vehículo a los carriles. Guiado del vehículo a lo largo de la vía. Control de las fuerzas dinámicas debidas al movimiento por irregularidades del carril, en curvas, agujas y después de impactos entre vehículos. Amortiguación eficaz de movimientos oscilatorios. Aplicación de las fuerzas de tracción y frenado. f renado.
Dependiendo de su mecanismo de rodadura, los vehículos se pueden describir como provistos de bogies o no provistos de bogies. En vehículos sin bogies tanto la suspensión como los frenos y los equipos de tracción se montan en el bastidor del vehículo, las fuerzas de tracción y frenado son transmitidas a través de barras de tracción o guías de cuerno y, si se tratan de vehículos convencionales de dos ejes, se generarán mayores esfuerzos en curvas cerradas que en los vehículos equivalentes con bogies, por lo que su longitud es limitada. Un tren de rodaje montado en una estructura independiente que puede girar con respecto al cuerpo del vehículo es conocido como bogie. Dependiendo del número de juegos de ruedas que se unen en el mismo podemos clasificar los bogies, el tipo más común es el de dos ejes pero a menudo encontramos también bogies de tres y cuatro ejes sobre todo en locomotoras.

Cajas del eje (o cajas de grasa) grasa) La caja del eje es el dispositivo que permite que el juego de ruedas pueda girar al proporcionar el alojamiento del cojinete y, al mismo tiempo, los soportes para que la suspensión primaria sujete el juego de ruedas al chasis del vehículo. La caja del eje transmite las fuerzas longitudinales, laterales y verticales desde el juego de ruedas a los demás elementos del bogie. Las cajas del eje se clasifican de acuerdo con:
Su posición sobre el eje dependiendo de si los cojinetes están dentro o fuera El tipo de cojinete utilizado, que puede ser rodamiento de rodillos o de fricción
La forma externa de la caja del eje se determina por el método de conexión entre la caja del eje y el bastidor del bogie y su objetivo es lograr una distribución uniforme de las fuerzas en el cojinete. La construcción interna de la caja del eje está determinada por el cojinete y su método de sellado. En la Figura 4 podemos observar un esquema de una caja de eje con cojinete de fricción. Este tipo de cajas de eje tienen como componentes la carcasa (1), el propio cojinete (2) que generalmente está hecho de aleación con bajo coeficiente de fricción, el cojinete (3) que transmite las fuerzas desde la carcasa de la caja del eje hasta el cojinete, un dispositivo de lubricación (4) que engrasa el eje del cojinete. Sellado delantero y trasero (5 y 6) para evitar que entre suciedad o cuerpos extraños en la caja del eje, el sellado delantero (6) se puede retirar para comprobar el estado de los rodamientos y añadir lubricante.

Las fuerzas verticales y longitudinales se transmiten a través de la superficie interna del cojinete y las fuerzas laterales por sus caras. Este tipo de cajas de eje de cojinete de fricción se han quedado hoy en día obsoletas ya que presentan varias desventajas importantes como son: elevado coeficiente de fricción cuando se inician desde el reposo, poca fiabilidad, necesitan un mantenimiento intensivo, contaminan el medio ambiente, etc. En la Figura 5 podemos observar varios tipos de cajas de eje con cojinetes de rodamientos de rodillo. Los rodamientos de rodillos esféricos no son muy utilizados debido a su alto coste y su baja capacidad de carga, pero sin embargo presentan una importante ventaja respecto al resto en cuanto a su mejor distribución de la fuerza delantera y trasera. Los rodamientos de bolas son, sin embargo, a menudo combinados con los rodamientos cilíndricos para transmitir fuerzas axiales. El material rodante de alta velocidad a menudo está provisto de tres tipos de rodamientos en la caja del eje: dos para transmitir las fuerzas radiales y otro (generalmente un rodamiento de bolas) para trabajar axialmente.
