The Ring Back Tones service (RBT) provides the served called party the possibility to de fine an audio tune that the calling party will hear during the alerting phase. The subscriber is able to manage and and personalise ring back tones. Anyone calling the subscriber will be pleasantly surprised by a specially selected tune while waiting for the called party to pick up the phone. The RBT subscriber configures the playlist with audio tunes to either provide one universal tune or customised, depending on the calling party. Music, personal welcome messages and advertisements are all valid audio tunes for use with the RBT service.
Comsys is the designer of SpeechFrame®. This state of art telecommunications platform gives operators and enterprises many possibilities. The platform is based on Sun SPARC Solaris and makes full use of Java, VoiceXML, CCXML and Web technology. The possible applications with the telephone connections are limited only by imagination.

(A) Places a call to (B), (B), The RBT RBT SCP logic looks up (B) (B) in the RBT service database to find out if (B) has a subscription to RBT, and in case this is true, the (A) party will hear the streamed audio until (B) picks up. When (B) picks up, the SCP tells the MSC to break the connection from (A) to the RBT server and instead connect (A) to (B). The resources on the RBT server are now free to deal with other calls. The RBT server is some kind of server equipment that has both a media board (e.g. Dialogic DM3, DNI or Aculab) as well as a connection to the signalling network, either SIGTRAN via TCP/IP, TCP/IP, traditional SS7 link or SIP/H.323 signalling to IMS networks. ISUP is needed for call control, as it is necessary to make a circuit connection to the RBT server. server.
