The most “eco-friendly” would be the third option. Pick up by train, linehaul by ship, and delivery by truck. 4. Which intermodal configuration would you suggest to be the most sustainable? Base your decision making on costs and the three environmental issues of greenhouse gas, nitrification, and acidification. Even though the second configuration (Warsaw-Worklaw by train, Warsaw-Oss harbor inland and Oss harbor-4Farmers by truck) has the lowest costs, the costs are not so different from the third option ($10,280), in comparison for the carbon footprint that leaves the option 2 versus the option 3 (961,899 vs 402,473.90). This is why we consider, that option 3 is the most sustainable option, along with the fact that option 2 needs a lot of shipments to pick up, while option 2 needs only 5.
