Title: Method Statement for Waterproofing Works
1.0Objectives: The intention of this Method Statement is to describe, establish and control the steps to be taken for achieving specified requirements for the waterproofing works consistent with the approved project drawings and specifications.
2.0Scope of Works: This Method Statement describes the application of waterproofing which will be used to carry out the work. It gives details of how the work will be executed in proper way and in accordance to contract & specifications.

4.0Responsibilities: 4.1 Construction Manager 4.1.1 Will be in charge of the Project and will coordinate with the specialist sub-contractors, suppliers and the company staff in discharging the contractual responsibilities in the contract. 4.1.2

all
technical
guidance and
obtain any specialized
consultancy services from outside organizations as required, in providing the technical and managerial requirements of the contract. 4.1.3 Will participate in any special discussions with the "Engineer" in monitoring the progress and problems in the execution of the contract.

4.2 QA/QC Engineer 4.2.1 Shall ensure that the works are carried out strictly in accordance with approved method statement and quality plan. 4.2.2 Will check the waterproofing works and workmanship in compliance with relevant specification and ensure that the required QA/QC checks are carried out.
4.3 Site Engineer 4.3.1 Will be responsible for planning and executing waterproofing works under the contract. 4.3.2 Will be a team member in the preparation of the method statement and he will follow the procedures outlined in the method statement to ensure that the work is carried out according to the highest safety requirements. 4.3.3 Will ensure that all safety procedures are properly followed prior to waterproofing works and organize tool box meetings with his staff on regular basis. 4.3.4 Will obtain the required information and shop drawings required for the work and ensure that the work is carried out as per the plan agreed with the "Engineer" . 4.3.5 Will maintain all documentations as required by the project management team and ensure that proper and correct information is given to all concerned. 4.3.6 Will ensure all related materials are tested conformant prior to using them. 4.3.7 Will coordinate with the PM and Foreman responsible to adopt the correct procedures and direct responsible for the quality of work.
4.4 Safety Officer 4.4.1 Will be responsible to the HSE for all his job functions and will follow up the safety procedures to be adopted at site. 4.4.2 Will instruct and coordinate with the Engineers and the Foreman and the workers to strictly enforce the safety procedures for the different aspects of work to be handled by the company staff. 4.4.3 Will conduct tool box meetings where safety aspects are discussed and the Housekeeping matters are taken up and resolved. 4.4.4 Will liaise with the HSE staff and monitor the work of the people released for house- keeping functions, as per the requirements of the contract. 4.4.5 Waste management and environmental management at site.

5.0Work Procedures: 5.1 Verification of Working Conditions 5.1.1 Ensure that all preceding activities or activities completed which cannot be accessed after waterproofing works are inspected, released and approved. 5.1.2

prior
to
commencing
the
waterproofing works. 5.1.3 Ensure work of other trades, to be fix prior to waterproof works is properly located and installed. 5.1.4 Obtain MEP clearance and clearance from other specialist trades which may not be accessible after waterproofing, prior to commencing waterproofing works. 5.2 Surface Preparation 5.2.1 All surfaces to receive waterproofing to be clean, dry and free from dirt, dust, oil and grease. 5.2.2 Wall Protrusions that likely to punch through the waterproofing films to be removed either by using a chipping hammer or grinder. 5.2.3 Prepare and level the concrete surfaces for waterproofing either by chipping, hacking or scraping the surface. 5.2.4 Repair the excessive pinholes, and similar imperfections (if any) to eliminate uneven surface. 5.2.5 Barricade the working area as to be a non trafficking passage. 5.2.6 Raise an inspection request for surface preparation (RFI) prior to the waterproofing work commences. 5.3 Installation of Accessories and marking of Waterproofing Levels 5.3.1 Immediately after the inspection use Viscose Elastic type adhesive tape at week joints and sharp edges. 5.3.2 Marking of waterproofing application levels can be commenced at this stage. 5.3.3 Levels should be true, square and in plumb at locations as indicated on the approved shop drawings/IFC drawings. 5.3.4 Use suitable fasteners where required.
5.3.5 Install waterproof level pads also to serve as guides in controlling the final
thickness of the waterproof and the finished plane of
the
waterproofed surface, relative to the accessories installed.

5.4 Rubberized

application

Impregnated Protection Boards 5.4.1
Ensure all other trades in the said location are put on hold during the
waterproof application so to protect and avoid any damage to the waterproofing layers. 5.4.2
Apply first coat using a manual brush application uniformly at a
workable consistency. 5.4.3
Floor application should continue to the vertical wall face up to a
minimum of 150mm as per the project specifications. 5.4.4
Ensure all surfaces to receive waterproofing fluid Application firmly
to achieve good adhesion and to be in one continuous operation. 5.4.5Subsequent coats of waterproof may be commenced immediately after setting of the previous coat approximately 3 to 5 hours and as per the manufactures recommendations. 5.4.6
Second coat should be applied at a right angle to the first coat.
5.4.7
Finish coats to be fairly true to the plane with a homogenous finish.
5.4.8
Bitumen Impregnated Protection Boards to have sufficient lapping as
per the manufactures recommendation. 5.5.8 Leave at least 72 hours between the final coat and “water ponding” test. 5.5 Water Ponding Test. 5.5.1
“Water Ponding test” to be carried out for the water logging areas
such as toilet floors and water tank areas as per the specifications. 5.5.2
After testing, repair works (if any) and re-testing work to be carry out
immediately after drying the waterproof surface. 5.5.3
Separate method statement to be submitted for such remedial
activities prior to the execution. 5.6 Cleaning and Protection 5.6.1
Pump out and remove ponding water after the testing and leave
until complete dry out.
5.6.2
Temporary covering (polythene or fiber sheets) to be used for
horizontal surfaces for protection and maintain conditions in a manner to ensure no damages or deterioration to the waterproof areas until subsequent trade work begin. 5.6.3
Remove excessive protective materials and waterproof materials
from adjacent surfaces.

9.0Quality Control: Surveillance inspection will be carried out by all the parties: 9.1Prior to the commencement of Works 9.1.1 For Materials site storage conditions at site. 10.0
Safety Control:
10.1 A safety meeting and risk assessment for the personnel involved will be conducted in accordance with type of activity to be carried out. 10.2 Prime importance shall be given to safety or personnel on site. It will be ensured that the personnel involved are thoroughly aware of the company safety regulations and safety requirements. 10.3 Safety Engineer/Officer should be present during execution of works at site to implement the safety procedures and requirements. 10.4 Safety tools such as protective clothing, gloves, eye/face protection must use during execution of work. 10.5 Housekeeping shall be maintained on site.
