When soloing in a slow ballad context, you really need to create melodic lines that fit around the underlying chords. In this lick, you can see how Vinai adjusts his note choice to fit the changing chords. He starts by building around an Emaj7 arpeggio (E G# B D#) but then switches quickly to a little E/C# E /C# double-stop over the A chord. He then builds a C#m9 arpeggio over the C#m.
