Noong bata ako, apyok ako sa panghuhuli ng tutubi. Mapa tutubing karayom man o tutubing kalabaw. Kalimitan silang nagsisilabas tuwing tag-ulan at kung saan palaging basa ang mga damuhan. 'Dun sila nagtutumpukan sa may putikan. Lumalayo sila sa mga taong nagdadaan pero hinding hindi sila makakalayo sa mga batang tulad ko na naghahabulan. Merong dalawang paraan para mahuli sila. This is the first book I've read that turns me on to reading. I haven't finished it though, since I am not really a reader at that time, I don't use bookmarks so I kept on reading the same chapters over and over again, not knowing where I left off. My sister just borrowed it from their library and she borrowed it for me thinking that I may like it. I haven't finished any novel back then, nor attempt to read one. It was supposed to be a satirical outburst of the character named Jojo, a scholar in a State University relating to the few days after the declaration of Martial Law... but it ended with an unresolved question that none of the characters answered to conclude the story. It felt open-ended. It left me with more questions, actually. The epilogue made me shed a tear. First year high school ako nang mabasa ko ang librong ito. Hindi ni-require ng teacher ko sa Filipino saka maraming eksena rito na "bawal" para sa mga first year h igh school na karaniwa'y naglalaro sa 12 at 13 ang edad. Tatay ko ang nag-pabasa sa akin. Tingin niya ata'y matanda na ako at kaya ko nang basahin si JCR, o siguro ay naghahanap lang siya ng pwedeng maka-kuwentuhan, mahirap nga namang magbasa nang magbasa nang wala ka namang maka-usap tungkol sa binasa mo. I was born in 1994. Like most young people today, I didn’t experience martial law. And I don’t know much about it and I only knew about it through TV documentaries. You know, those stuff they show on Knowledge Channel during February and September. I watched them every year, when I was in elementary. I think martial law was also taught in school, but only barely. And not as much as math or science was taught.
