INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Tardiness in schools if left unchecked create a serious systematic problems (Pilgirm,2013). Understanding that tardiness is the quality of fact of being late in an institution it can affect a person's performance in variety of ways (merianwebster.com). In this issue the challenge here is to identify what are the effects of tardiness to the students of senior high school in Atene de Zamboanga University. To address this issue, the senior high school department shall conduct a proper discipline to students and adjust the time schedule for them to have a better performance in the institution and cooperate to the school policies. The aim of this research is the frequency and the factors why they come to school late and what may be the effects if they will continue to do such thing.
Statement of the Problem
This paper aims to determine the number of Senior high school students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University who comes to class late. At the end of this study, the researchers will answer the following questions:
What are the effects in the academic performance of a student who comes to class late?

Significance of the Study –
This paper will help the society by giving the significance of having time-management and being on time through enumerating the possible consequences of being late in an institution.
This paper is designed to help the institution in addressing the problem regarding student's tardiness by looking into the reasons and the possible solutions for this issue.
The study will benefit the researchers by extending the researchers' knowledge regarding the topic and providing the answers to the researchers' questions.
This paper will give awareness to readers regarding how tardiness affects their performance and help the readers avoid the problem by providing strategies. This paper may also help a future researcher that seeks to study the same topic or related to the topic.
Scope and Limitations
This study will be determining not only the number of students who come to school late as well its possible effects when this habit of being late continues.
In this research the first limitation to be considered is that it only focuses on the senior high school students. Second, the proponents preferred only a sample size of 90 students to answer the issue regarding about the topic. Lastly, the proponents will conduct the research application of surveys only in Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School at Fr. Eusebio Salvador, S.J. main campus
In application to the research in understanding these results, it will not identify the respondents from what strand they belong; in addition this study will not compare to the results from other ADZU department such as Junior High school, Grade School and College.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE
Coming to school late is one of the top issues and one of the majors concerns that marked the Senor high school community of the Ateneo de Zamboanga University. We cannot avoid or foresee of being late sometimes but when students come to school late frequently is definitely something a school would consider it a problem. As an Atenean, being responsible is a part of the student's learning considering that school is also the place where a child learns to follow rules and regulations, be on time, tracking schedules and meeting their task.
In accordance to our research to address this problem, administration must determine the possible reasons of student's tardiness. There are several reasons for a student to be late and base on the survey, most of the results of the reasons behind where answered. First, students commit tardy because they wake up late, this is due to the bunch of requirements, they need more time to accomplish the tasks given to them and they spend more hours at night to achieve the task. What challenges them more because teachers pressured them a lot especially the Grade 12 students, this result to the lack of sleep among students. Second, their home location matters to them others live from Mercedes, Sinunuc, Divisoria and other farther places resulting to late arrival at school third, one of the most common reasons in addressing this issue is the traffic although some students are supposed to come early to school but because of the presence of traffic in the city of Zamboanga it affects their arrival time to school. Third is the transportation not all of the entire AdZU students have their own , they most probably ride on a transportation such as jeepney and due to the distance of their home from the school they encounter difficulty in arriving at school, plus students are not the only one who needs a transportation but workers and employees need it too Lastly the weather, when typhoon or rain arrive it also affects their arrival time to school because some students are having difficulty in getting out of their home due to the flood and it would be a difficult part to them to take transportation. These results mark the major problems why some of the senior high school students come to the institution late. Now the question is what could be the possible results when they still continue this habit of being late? This type of habit may affect the student's academic performance of the students that may lead to low achievement, plus they might miss school works resulting to difficulty in catching up with the topic in a certain subject. According to Scott "Perform well, a non-profit policy research and educational organization, reports that frequent tardiness is associated with lower grades and lower scores on test. It is also linked to low graduation rates in addition students who are routinely late at the primary and middle school levels are more likely to fail in senior school—or even drop out. Second point is the social criticism; the social experience has a powerful impact on a child's feelings about school and his ability to be academically successful (Scott, 2016). When a student enters a class late he may disrupt the flow of discussion and distract the attention of his classmates. Overtime, the child may begin to be criticized, affecting his level of interest for school. Poor social interaction may lead to low self-esteem that can affect the child's ability to focus on learning. Last point, arriving on school late affects their self-discipline, as a student it is a good start to practice arriving on school early so when a child loses track in being punctual in school, he may also be less responsible in other task. Being time on school is a preparation for the world outside the school. To address this issue, administration must determine possible reasons of a student's tardiness. Students must practice the habit of having time management such as organizing events, planning ahead of time and daily routine should be scheduled. Another possible solution regarding this issue, the institution may give right discipline through improving the policy regarding tardiness.
The habit of being late is a factor affecting the performance of an individual. However, this issue will not be a major concern if an institution may be able to look into to the reasons to give solution in addressing the issue.
METHODOLOGY
Research Design–
The research design in the study will be quantitative, where theories and variables are converted into numbers in order to be compared and studied easily. This study will be quantitative in testing the factors behind the tardiness of Ateneo de Zamboanga Senior High School students.
With the use of descriptive research the proponents wish to conduct a study regarding about the effects of tardiness to the no. of students in Ateneo de Zamboanga University Senior High School. In order to achieve the results we have considered the following:
Sampling Design
Sampling Technique
The researcher will be using the stratified random sampling technique.
Wherein, the researchers will pick the respondents randomly.
Sample Size
The researchers decided to ramdomly get atleast 40 students from the senior
High school to be their respondents. The target sample of this study will be the
Senior High School students of Ateneo de Zamboanga University.
Locale
The researchers will conduct the study inside the Fr. Eusebio Salvador, S.J main campus La Purisima Ateneo de Zamboanga University. Specifically the AdZU Senior High School population.
Research Instruments
To address the problem stated, the proponents prepared a survey questionnaire for the respondents, by doing this the researcher will be giving a letter to the principal to have the permit at first. Then and at the same time the researchers will be using books, newspapers, internet sources to clarify perceptions.
