0 Introduction: The rules listed in these instructions must be strictly observed when filling LOESCHE machines with lubricants. This applies to the first time the machine is filled up, when adding lubricant and when changing it. In addition the sub-supplier's operating instructions must be followed.

1 Safety inst ructio ns: Do not allow to come into repeated contact with the skin for a prolonged period. Wash any skin affected with soap and water. While working wear skin protection. After work use a moisturising skin cream. If necessary wear oil-resistant protective clothing (e.g. gloves, apron). Do not clean hands with petroleum, solvents, water miscible or water mixed cooling lubricants. Oil spray must be drawn off at the point of origin. Protective glasses must be worn to avoid contact with the eyes. However, should it come into contact with the eyes, the affected areas must be rinsed throughly with water. Should eye irritation continue please consult a doctor. Should the lubricants be swallowed inadvertently under no circumstances induce vomiting. Medical help must be sought immediately. Lubricants are normally water-polluting products. Therefore they must not get into the soil, water or the sewer system.

2 General conditions:

Only use the lubricants listed in the lubrication instructions. The specified lubrication intervals (changing, checking) must be strictly observed. Mixing lubricants made by different suppliers or of different quality must be strictly avoided.

3 Rules for handling oi ls: Oil containers and filling accessories must be clean and undamaged. Foreign bodies must not be allowed to get into the gearbox or hydraulic systems. Feed holes must first of all be cleaned. - Oils must be put in using a barrel pump or thro ugh a filter system. - After filling a note must be made of the oil barrel batch number so that it can be tracked in the event of damage. - When changing to another type of oil or another manufacturer the gearbox or the hydraulic system must be flushed with the new type of oil.

4 Required gear lubricant o il qu ality: The quality guidelines are listed in the relevant gearbox manufacturers' operating instructions. These must be strictly observed.

5 Hydrauli c oil pur ity c lasses as set out in ISO 4406:

Class 17/15/12, complying with NAS 6 (maximum requirement) Class 19/17/14, complying with NAS 8 (still acceptable)

Before filling systems you must ensure that the required oil purity class is guaranteed.

6 Flush ing gearboxes Mill gearboxes must be flushed before being filled for the first time. An oil with the same viscosity as the operating oil must be used for flushing. You will find further instructions in the mill gearbox operating instructions. When calculating how much lubricant to use for first filling you must ensure that you have twice the amount available for flushing and for the first filling. The flushing oil can be used up to four times more after rinsing and cleaning.

7 Flushing hydraulic syst ems/ Changing fil ters Hydraulic systems must be flushed before being filled for the first time. The flushing procedure is described in "Flushing instructions for hydraulic systems in Loesche mills" (Q924034-00-4). These instructions are a component part of the documentation. The filters must be changed after the system has been rinsed or completely refilled.

8. Takin g oil samples During the contractually agreed guarantee period oil samples must be taken from gear boxes and hydraulic systems at stipulated operating times. The stipulated operating times can be found in the manufacturers' operating and maintenance instructions and the LOESCHE lubricating instructions. Oil samples must be taken on the following occasions: - when the system is first filled - at the first oil change - at regular oil changes - during repairs (if it is necessary to change the oil then). Oil samples must only be taken by trained personnel and in accordance with the manufacturers' operating and maintenance instructions. The lubricant manufacturers' "Safety and environmental instructions for handling lubricants" must be observed. Basically two oil samples from every oil filling must be stored: 1. Oil sampl e (new oi l): The oil sample is taken directly from the original barrel before filling t he gearbox or the hydraulic system. 2. Oil sampl e (old o il): The oil sample is taken from the lowest oil drainer before draining the oil. (This is normally at the lowest point of the oil system.) Continuous oil sampling sequence: If the first oil sample (new oil) is taken before.... ....first filling, .... ....first oil change,….. ....the first regular change,……..

then the second oil sample (old oil) is taken before…. ....the first oil change. ....the first regular change. ....further regular changes.

The oil samples must only be put into clean, oil-resistant containers that can be firmly closed (e.g. plastic bottles for chemicals). Here the oil samples must be taken directly from the gearboxes or the hydraulic systems. Each oil sample must be approximately 0.3 litres. Each oil sample container must be firmly closed and the following information written on it: - Machine - Type of oil - Date of sample - Oil sample number. Then the oil samples must be stored in a lockable cupboard at room temperature. A back up sample of each oil sample must be stored which will be sent to LOESCHE on request. Back up samples of each of the three last oil samples must be kept.
