NOUN AND PRONOUNS Tujuan Pembelajaran

Siswa mampu menyebutkan dan mengklasifikasikan kata benda dan kata ganti dalam bahasa Inggris. RINGKASAN MATERI A. Noun

 Noun adalah kata benda atau seseorang, s eseorang, suatu tempat, atau suatu benda, misalnya: Person : man, woman, teacher, teac her, John, John, Mary Place : home, office, t own, countryside, countryside, America Thing : table, car, banana, money, music, love, dog, monkey

Kata benda dalam bahasa Inggris dibagi menjadi 2: 1. Countable Nouns

Countable nouns mudah dikenali, yaitu kata benda yang dapat dihitung, misalnya:   pen. Kita dapat menghitung pen. Kita mungkin mempunyai one, two, three or more  pens. y

Countable nouns dapat berupa singular (tunggal) (tunggal) atau plural (jamak): y

2. Uncountable

Nouns

Uncountable nouns adalah kata benda yang tidak bisa dihitung, misalnya 'milk'. Kita tidak dapat menghitung 'milk'. Kita dapat menghitung 'bottles of milk' or  'litres of milk', tetapi kita tidak dapat menghitung 'milk' itu sendiri. Contoh uncountable nouns yang lain adalah: y y y y y y

B. Pronoun

Pronoun adalah kata yang dapat menggantikan kata benda atau frasa kata benda. Pronoun dibagi menjadi 7: 1. Personal Pronouns

adalah kata yang menggantikan kata secara gramatikal menunjukkan pada orang atau penamaan.  P ersonal   P ronouns

 Number : singular (e.g.: I) or plural (e.g.: we)

Kita menggunakan   personal pronouns untuk menggantikan orang yang sedang kita   bicarakan, misalnya My name is Rad itya, tetapi ketika membicarakan tentang diri sendiri, orang bernama Raditya tersebut hampir selalu menggunakan I atau me bukan Raditya. Ketika membicarakan orang kedua tunggal ( you), hampir selalu kita menggunakan  you, tidak menyebutkan namanya. Ketika membicarakan seseorang (orang ketiga tunggal), sebut saja Ellen, kita mungkin akan memulai dengan menyebutkan nama Ellen, namun selanjut nya kita akan menggunakan she atau her, dan seterusnya. Anthony drove us. Do you need a table for three? Did Adit and Tejo beat you at doubles? They played doubles. Adit and Tejo beat them.

2. Possessive Pronouns adalah kata yang menunjukkan kepemilikan. Possessive Pronouns dibedakan menjadi dua:  P ossessive  P ronoun

a. Dependent Dependent

Possessive Pronouns adalah possessive pronouns yang ditempatkan sebelum kata benda (noun). Contoh: This is your pen and that is mine. This is my pencil and those are his.  b. Independent Independent Possessive Pronoun adalah possessive pronouns yang diletakkan setelah kata kerja (verb) : This is your pen and that is mine. This is my pencil and those are his. 3. Demonstrative

4. Interrogative

Pronouns

 Interrogative  P ronouns merupakan kata-kata tanya yang mempertanyakan orang atau  benda, yaitu: who, whom, whose, which, what. Contoh:

Who

is that boy?

Whose

car is this?

5. Reflexive Pronouns

Reflexive Pronouns adalah kata ganti yang menunjuk kegiatan untuk pelaku sendiri dalam kalimat bersangkutan atau memberi penekanan pada unsur subjek atau objek. Contoh:  H e

spoke to himself.

I myself drive the car. 6. Indefinite

Pronouns

 Ind efinite  P ronouns adalah kata-kata yang mengacu pada s eseorang atau sesuatu yang dianggap tidak tentu, seperti everybod  y, anybod  y, somebo d  y, all, each, every,  some, none, one. Contoh: Is there anyone in the office? Somebod  y broke my car last night. 7. Relative

Pronouns

 Relative  P ronouns adalah kata-kata yang merangkai suatu kata benda atau frasa kata  benda dengan klausa penjelasnya, seperti who, whom whose, which, that  yang berarti "yang". Contoh: She will tell you what you need to know. I do not know who really he is. Pronouns (Kata Ganti) adalah kata yang menggantikan kata benda (nouns). Pembagian Pronouns :

1.  Personal Pronouns

2.  Demonstrative Pronouns 3.  Possessive Pronouns 4.  I nterrogative Pronouns 5.  Relative Pronouns 6.  I ndefinite Pronouns 7.  Reflexive Pronouns 8.  I ntensive Pronouns 9.  Reciprocal Pronouns 1. Personal Pronouns

Yaitu kata ganti orang, baik orang pertama, orang kedua maupun orang ketiga. Personal Pronouns berfungsi sebagai: a. Nominative Subjective , yaitu menjadi subjek kalimat. I, we, you, they, he, she, it. y y

I study English You are my new secretary.

b. Objective, yaitu menjadi objek kalimat. Me, us, you, them, him, her, it. y y

Demonstrative Pronouns (Kata Ganti Penunjuk) y y y

This, that, those, these. This is your book. Those are my pencils.

Catatan:

Keempat kata di atas juga dapat dijumpai dalam Demonstrative Adjectives. Perbedaan  penggunaannya hanya pada penggunaan kata benda (nouns) setelah keempat kata di atas untuk Demonstrative Adjectives. y y y

Possessive Pronouns

Yaitu kata ganti yang menunjukkan kepemilikan. Mine, yours, theirs, ours, his, hers. y y

This house is mine. (mine = Possessive Pronouns). This is my house. (my=Possessive Adjectives).

Relative Pronouns

Yaitu kata yang menggantikan kata yang telah disebutkan sebelumnya.

Kata-kata yang dipakai adalah: a. Menggantikan subjek . y

Catatan:

Semua kata-kata di atas (who, whom, whose, which, that, dan of which) dala m bahasa Indonesia artinya µYang´. Contoh: y

The man who cuts my hair is my uncle (Laki-laki yang memangkas rambut saya adalah paman saya). I am waiting for the man whom you are talking about. She borrows the novel of which cover is purple. Pembahasan lebih lanjut mengenai topic ini a kan dibahas pada topic Adjective Clause.

5. Interrogative Pronouns

Yaitu kata Tanya yang digunakan untuk mengawali suatu pertanyaan. Kata yang dipakai adalah who, what, whom, dan which. y y y y y

are you? What is the color of your house? (what = Pronouns) What color is your house? (what = Adjectives) Which is your pen? (which = Pronouns) Which pen is yours? (which = Adjectives)

Indefinite Pronouns (Kata Ganti Tak Tentu)

Kata-kata yang sering dipakai adalah: another, anybody, something, everyone, much, neither, one, none, dll. y y y

All work is not dull, some is pleasant. Most of the cars are new.  Nobody is at home.

Reflexive Pronouns

Yaitu kata ganti yang merupakan pantulan dari kata ganti (Pronouns) itu sendiri. Perhatikan bentuk kata ganti jenis ini: I = myself  You = yourself (kamu) You = yourselves (kalian) We = ourselves They = themselves He = himself  She = herself  It = itself  Contoh: y y y

Intensive Pronouns

Yaitu kata ganti yang juga merupakan pantulan dari kata ganti itu sendiri. Namun, letaknya sesudah nouns/pronouns itu sendiri. Kata ganti jenis ini berfungsi untuk lebih menekankan / menegaskan maksud pembicaraan. Contoh: y y

himself who told me so. ( Henry sendirilah yang mengatakan begitu kepadaku) Mary herself repaired the computer. (Mary sendirilah ± bukan orang lain ± yang memperbaiki computer itu) Jack himself gave me the book.

Berhati-hatilah dengan penggunaan kata gantu jenis ini. Perhatika n 3 contoh kalimat di  bawah ini dan perhatikan perbedaannya. y

Alex does the test himself. (= Alex mengerjakan test itu sendiri ± ta npa bantuan orang lain) Ted himself does the test. (= T ed  send irilah ± bukan orang lain ± yang mengerjakan test itu) Bob does the test by himself. (= Bob mengerjakan test itu sendirian ± tidak ada orang lain bersama dia)

Reciprocal Pronouns

Yaitu kata ganti yang menyatakan hubungan timbale balik antara 2 atau lebih.

Frase yang digunakan adalah: Each other = satu sama lain (2 orang) One another = satu sama lain ( lebih dari 2 orang)

Possessive Adjective (Kata Ganti sebagai Milik) Pronoun sebagai Possessive Adjecive diletakkan didepan Noun (Kata Benda) untuk  menunjukkan kepemilikan. I YOU THEY WE HE SHE IT y

Untuk menunjukkan milik tidak menggunakan kata ganti (pronoun) tetapi menggunakan nama atau kata benda, digunakan apostrophe (tanda µ) ditambah s dibelakang nama atau kata benda tersebut. Tetapi jika berakhiran dengan huruf desis (seperti ³s´ atau ³z´ ) cukup ditambah dengan tanda apostrophe (tanda µ) sa ja. E  xample: Budi¶s house (Rumah budi) Rini¶s house My aunt¶s car  My sister¶s friend Sulis¶ cat Agus¶ hat
