More than 50,000 engineers, specifiers, and buyers of electrical products make use of the guide to make sure that electrical installations perform safely and effectively effectively.. NEMA has been developing electrical industry standards for eight decades. NEMA will continue to play a critical role in promoting advanced technology, from medical imaging systems to traffic control systems, from homeland security devices to electrical applications of nanotechnology. n anotechnology. We We are indebted to the dedicated professionals who develop our industry standards. NEMA is increasingly moving into the the international marketplace. It is active in the International Electrotechnical Commission standards development and conformity assessment processes, attempting to facilitate the entry of NEMA products into markets across the globe. In the past few years, we have opened offices in Mexico, Brazil, and China, offering services to members selling product into these markets and working on behalf of members to influence the standards development and regulatory processes in those countries. NEMA's government relations program works both domestically and internationally to remove trade and regulatory barriers to doing business. In China, which at the moment may hold the greatest opportunity for our our multinationals, multinationals, NEMA has been working diligently to level the competitive playing field and foster free and fair trade. Government relations achieved a great victory last year with the passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. The association was instrumental in the drafting of key portions of the bill, including one that requires the federal government to purchase NEMA Premium electric electric motors and Energy Energy Star labeled products, ensuring high performance and high energy efficiency at the same time.
NEMA
NEMA also helps helps its its members understand the markets via its a full-service economics and market research consulting shop, which has gained a reputation as a reliable, attractively priced provider of business information to the electroindustry.. Known as troindustry NEMA/BIS, it is uniquely positioned to fill the electroindustry's business information needs. It provides accurate and timely customized research, data collection, analysis, and forecasting to key decision-ma decisi on-makers kers in NEMA member companies— companies— from relatively small surveys to the complex forecasting casti ng models developed developed for NEMA produc productt groups. The Industry Data Exchange Association, IDEA, a joint venture venture between NEMA NEMA and the National Association of Electrical Distributors, is also contributing to an efficient marketplace by setting standards for e-commerce and providing the means by which those in the marketing channel can transact business in the most efficient, effective, and accurate manner possible. All told, NEMA continues to provide tremendous value to its members and the electrical manufacturing community. We We are here to serve.

Going beyond the balance sheet.
The numbers on a balance sheet are a snapshot of a company’s financial position – and they’re important. But the heart and soul of company are its people, its products and services, the markets it serves, the customers it helps. In the last year alone, Hubbell people responded in the wake of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita with unprecedented urgency. They supported the recovery of vital energy resources, came to market with one of the largest new product launches in company history – and much more. The way we see it, the numbers on our financial statements tell only part of the Hubbell story. The real story is what we do every day to achieve them. Visit us at www.hubbell.com

S EA ST CT N IDA ONR DS H E A&DOT H E R P U B L I CA T I ON S I N D E X This index is a quick reference guide to all of the standards available from NEMA, including certain ANSI standards. It notes the latest version available, the price, and the page number on which you will find the title and a short description of the document, as well as companion standards and notices of approval or adoption by other organizations. At least every five years, each NEMA standard is reviewed for timeliness, technical accuracy, and relevance. The dates of the reviews are published as part of the alpha-numeric standard identifier. Revisions published for NEMA standards are made available for holders of the base standard at a nominal price. The revision is automatically included in the base standard for future users and the price of the standard (base and revisions) is adjusted. When a NEMA standard is purchased through IHS/Global Engineering Documents, the customer will be sent notification of the standard’s revision.

Some say welding is a static industry – that there’s nothing to learn about joining metal with metal. But at Lincoln Electric, we think there will always be new ways to improve productivity. That’s why we spend more on research and development than any other company in welding. Our view is long range: we plan to stay No. 1 in arc welding and cutting. And we’ll keep inventing the new technologies that drive your business forward.

Standards approved by ANSI or adopted by the U.S. Department of Defense are so indicated. Contact information for sources for publications from other organizations are provided on page 131. Manufacturers of products related to the standard are listed under the same product category in the product and manufacturer listing, beginning on page 80. In addition to the association’s industry standards, users may also be interested in NEMA's other publications (guides, handbooks, reports, newsletters, and brochures) covering items of interest to electrical manufacturers, which can be found within their subject categories. BUSWAY, CONDUI T, RACEWAYS Conduit-I n-Casing Construction Power and communication industries are on a never-ending quest to "get the cord long enough." Conduit-incasing construction is one method that helps make the cord long enough to get from the communication or power source to the consumer. Downloadable from www.nema.org. Expansion Joints for PVC Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit Polymer Raceway Products (PVC) Technical Committee publi cation notes that fluctuations in temperature have a greater effect upon polyvinyl chlori de (PVC) than more traditional materials such as aluminum and steel. Thermal expansion and contraction have significant effects on long straight runs of conduit; therefore, expansion joints are used to accommodate changes in length. This prevents potentially harmful thermal stresses in the conduit itself or in any supporting structures. Downloadable from www.nema.org. Solvent-Cementing Joints for PVC Rigid Nonmetallic Conduit, Duct, and Fitt ings Four-page application guide prepared by the Polymer Raceway Products Technical Committee discusses aspects of solvent-cementing of joints for PVC rigid nonmetalli c conduit, duct, and fi ttings. Topics include: to prime or not t o prime; solvent cement selection cri teria, storage requirements; recommended cutt ing procedures for conduit or duct; cleaning procedure; appli cation procedure; assembly precautions; and atmospheric considerations. Electrical Contractors SPECIFY Your Products! Failure to recognize this fact can cost your company money and share. Consider these facts:
Over 42% of all electrical contractor revenue comes from design/build projects. They are involved in design/specification from the get-go.
Over 80% of all specs are multi, or-equal, or performance. Final brand selection will be determined by the ec.
Electrical contractors are receiving specifications from designers LESS complete, leaving many final design and detailing decisions directly up to the electrical contractor on the site.
Electrical contractors are involved in virtually every phase of product specification and installation. ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR Magazine reaches over 85,900 of them! Every month, ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR talks to more of your key specifier customers in an atmosphere they find more useful and prefer by more than a 3:1 margin.
