OBJETIVO Las correas transportadoras son uno de los sistemas m ás versá versátiles para el transporte y manejo de materiales s ólidos a granel. Estos equipos permiten manejar una amplia gama de materiales en un amplio rango de capacidades (Tabla 1). En este tó t ópico se establecerá establecer án los pará parámetros de diseñ dise ño má más relevantes de las correas transportadoras y se evaluar án las condiciones que favorecen su utilizació utilizaci ón.

ELEM LEMENTOS TOS BASICOS DEL DISEÑO La eficiencia o la efectividad de una correa transportadora depender á de la escogencia adecuada de los cinco elementos b ásicos que las configuran, en combinació combinaci ón con la integració integraci ón apropiada de la unidad al sistema. El rodillo tractor (“ ( “drive” drive”): el cual imparte la potencia a los rodillos libres y tensores para mover la correa y su carga
La estructura: la cual soporta y mantiene la alineaci ón de los rodillos libres, tractores y tensores.
Asumiendo una selecció selecci ón apropiada de los cinco elementos mencionados, el ingeniero debe establecer la integraci ón más conveniente de la correa transportadora dentro del sistema. Entre los factores que deber án ser cuidadosamente estudiados se pueden citar: la forma de alimentar y descargar la correa, sus soportes, si deber á ser permanente o portá port átil, los accesos para operació operaci ón y mantenimiento, los requerimientos de arranque y paradas el éctricas, etc.. Varias universidades y compañí compa ñías, as, a nivel mundial, han desarrollado ecuaciones que permiten calcular la tensió tensi ón de las correas en funci ón de la carga, velocidad, longitud, y factores de fricci ón. Algunas de ellas han sido estandardizadas por las normas DIN # 22100, en Alemania, y CEMA (Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association) en los Estados Unidos. Los factores que se usar án en éste tó tópico son conservativos y el diseñ dise ño final dependerá depender á de las preferencias individuales del ingeniero o, de está est ándares especí espec íficos.

La curva có c óncava debe ser diseñ dise ñada asegurando que la correa se mantendr á en contacto permanente con todos los rodillos libres durante el arranque. Hay que evitar las pé p érdidas de material en las zonas de cambio de inclinaci ón, por lo que se sugiere buscar la asesor ía de fabricantes cuando se enfrente esta situaci ón. Los valores tí t ípicos para el radio mí m ínimo de curvatura de la concavidad se sit úan entre los 150 y 500 pies (45.7 – (45.7 – 154,4 154,4 m ). Las correas transportadoras pueden presentar un gran n úmero de combinaciones en los planos horizontal, inclinado ascendente o inclinado descendente para adaptarse a los accidentes del terreno. Algunas de estas combinaciones se muestran en la Figura 3. Los cambios de direcció direcci ón desde el plano inclinado al horizontal, en una sola correa, se pueden llevar a cabo por medio de rodillos tensores dobladores o, de rodillos libres ubicados pró pr óximos los unos a los otros. Sin embargo, en estos puntos de inflexió inflexi ón las correas tienden a aplanarse, por lo que se deben tomar medidas para evitar las pé p érdidas de material. En el caso que amerite describir una curva, dependiendo del espacio disponible, se puede efectuar un peralte suave con una sola correa o instalar dos correas, con diferente direcció direcci ón, unidas por medio de una estaci ón de transferencia en el punto de descarga.

El ángulo de sobrecarga se lo conoce frecuentemente como ángulo diná dinámico de reposo. A medida que la carga pasa sobre los rodillos libres es correspondientemente agitada. La mayor tensi ón se le adjudica al llamado lado tenso ( “tight side” side”), mientras que la menor tensi ón estará estará del lado suelto (“ ( “slack side” side”). La diferencia entre las tensiones de los dos lados se conoce como tensió tensi ón efectiva, Te. Esta es la tensió tensi ón que efectú efect úa el trabajo de movimiento de la correa transportadora. La Figura 7 muestra los diferentes arreglos del rodillo tractor, indicando las diferentes tensiones asociadas a cada uno de ellos.
