To To begin the analyses of well logs logs on Interactive Petrophysics Petrophysics software, software, select the “Input/Output” tab and load the well logging les that you have.
ou ou can drag and drop !"# les fro$ your your e$ail into IP. IP. %hooses which curves to load.
&uic' plots of the data can be $ade by selecting one of the pre( dened plot for$ats.
In this e)a$ple, a triple co$bo plot is used.
The user can *oo$ into the log by selecting selecting a scale fro$ the scale bo).
The far right trac' shows an overview overview of the logs. The user can view any depth in the plot by clic'ing in this trac'.
The botto$ $argin of the plot contains contains the value of the logs at the current position of the cursor.
The interpretation interpretation is carried out in three three parts. + %lay volu$e volu$e para$eter para$eters s using $ultiple $ultiple clay indicators indicators - Poros orosit ity y ater ater satur saturati ation on
Clay Volume Parameters #electing the clay volu$e $odule presents this screen where the user can choose the input curves to be used.
%lic'ing “run” will show the clay volu$e plot. Trac's Trac's are created created for each clay indicator and also the results. results. The vertical lines in the trac's represent represent the clean and clay para$eter para$eter pic's. 0y clic'ing and dragging these lines, one can $ove it to a new position. hen the line is released, released, IP will instantly re(calculate for the *one and shows the result in the results trac'.
0y right clic'ing in a trac', a $enu pops up, where histogra$s histogra$s and crossplots can be selected.
In the histogra$, the vertical lines correspond correspond to the interactive lines on the plot they are also fully interactive. The value of each para$eter is shown at the botto$ of the histogra$.
The resistivity resistivity of clean and clay lines can be $oved $oved in the sa$e way. way.
The neutron(density lines lines are the best set set through the use of a cross cross plot. %hoosing a T1P2/32O0 crossplot, the red lines are the clean line and the clay line. The para$eter values are displayed at the base of the cross plot.
In this well, there is a light hydrocarbon e4ect. This $eans the clean line $ust be *oned so the slope can be changed in the hydrocarbon *ones.
5ones are created by right clic'ing the *one trac' on the left of the plot and selecting “split *one”.
%lay indicators can be turned on and o4 for individual *ones by right clic'ing I the trac' and selecting the “turn on and o4” option.
1ow, individual para$eters can be set for each *one.

The progra$ uses default para$eters para$eters for 3w, a, $, and n which have to ad=usted for the well you are trying to interpret. 3w can be changed by $oving the interactive lines to line up with the 3w apparent curve in the water *one, or by using a histogra$. 2istogra$s allow setting of 3w in all *ones at once. !ine up the 3w line with the wet sand pea'. 3esidual oil has now been re$oved fro$ the wet *ones. 3$f can be set in the sa$e way using the 3$f "pparent histogra$.
3esistivity 3esistivity clay is best set using a resistivity/8clay resistivity/8clay cross plot.
3)o clay can be set in the sa$e way. Pic'ett Pic'ett plots can be used to interactively select 3w and $ values.
In the hydrocarbon *ones, if your hydrocarbon density is not set right, your 3ho$a reading can be lower than what would be e)pected. 0y $oving the hydrocarbon density line, the hydrocarbon density can be changed to give an average $atri) density of around -.>? g/cc.
The cuto4 and su$$ation input window allows allows the user to select up to +@ input curves to provide discri$inators for net reservoir and net pay.
%lic' “3un” “3un” and copy the *ones fro$ the porosity and water saturation curves.
The $ain trac's in the window are are input discri$inator curves( curves( porosity, water saturation and clay volu$e. The green Aag shows the net reservoir reservoir.. The red Aag shows the net pay. pay.
The porosity cut(o4 can be set by dragging dragging the cut(o4 line in the porosity trac'.
3ight clic'ing in the trac' allows access to the histogra$.
Once the cut(o4s are a re set the well can easily be *oned by splitting the *ones in the *one trac'.
