HIGH AXIAL SHIFT IN TURBINE
PROJECT:
UNIT - II , NORTH CHENNAI TPS
North Chennai TPS Unit II , 210 MW Seimens Turbine has to deal with high axial shift problem since 1999. The axial shift steadily increases crossing alarm levels after every overhaul. During inspection of HP rear bearing during each overhaul damages were observed on thrust pads and also severe, pitting marks observed on axial keys on either side of the bearing.
The contact of Bearing No.2 spherical seat on its support is suspected to be poor , leading to shifting of Bearing No.2 during transient operations. operations. The existing spare bearing along with support sup port is to be inspected by SAS, Secunderabad for replacing with the existing bearing. The HP rear bearing along with cylindrical support has to be machined at BHEL Hardwar for proper contact. The shaft current earthing system provided has to be checked checked and properly earthed to avoid pitting of axial keys
