Seoul, Korea Korea – Kimchi, Sojuu and Soj and Shoppin Shoppin galore! galore! BY THERESA BABIC, FLIgHT CENTRE OAKVILLE
What a diners deliht to venture out into the city o Seoul, Korea lookin or dishes unique to the North American palate. My rst mission was to nd and devour Kimchi. I had never tried this side dish beore but had heard so much about it. I t is a traditional Korean pickled dish made o veetables with varied seasonins, usually cabbae, and can be very spicy. There are over 100 dierent varieties o Kimchi and I believe that

Another unique staple to the Korean dinin experience included Soju. It’s an alcohol most commonly made rom rice and usually 20% proo. It tastes comparable to that o vodka but slihtly sweeter. sweeter. Most interestin about drinkin Soju is that it is aainst traditional custom in Dongdaemun is lled with hundreds Korea to o vendor booths selling anything you ll one’s own lass. can imagine. . . to buy anythin your heart desires. I spent most o my time in Dondaemun Market which happens to be the larest in South Korea. Dondaemun is lled with hundreds o vendor booths sellin anythin you can imaine: knick knacks, souvenirs, clothin, and brand name hand bas. Also, a little barainin is always welcomed at the booths without sticker prices on their items. My shoppin experience was a success and I manaed to pick up or mysel two hand bas, an eel skin wallet, s tainless steel chop stick and, o course, souvenir Kimchi. So i you are lookin or a dinin and shoppin holiday that is ‘o the beaten path’, I stronly encourae you to try Seoul Korea. A Journey o a Lietime… Hawai‘i, Samoa and Vanuatu BY ELIzABETH ROBERTSON, FLIgHT CENTRE TORONTO
Seein the South Pacic, Australia and New zealand was somethin I had always wanted to do. But, makin it a reality seemed to be so ar out o my reach iven the distance and the means needed to et me there. When I nally had the opportunity to see it all on a cruise ship, you can imaine how excited I was, it was a dream come true. The ship started in Alaska and made its way across to New zealand and Australia. Alon the way, we visited Hawai‘i, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Bay o Islands. It was about a six month journey and in that little bit o time, I VAlUe, experienced so much and my eyes were opened to a whole new world I never knew existed.
How would you like to visit a place where the men worship the women and the bier you are the more desirable you become? Yes ladies, we have been missin out on the best place on earth, Samoa. In a traditional household in Samoa, the man does all o the cookin AND still works to provide or the amily. The women are cherished and in each villae there is an elected ‘Princess’ who is in chare o how that villae is run and any decisions that need to be made. A world run by women, I like that idea! Their culture is very open and they have a very communal way o lie. Their ‘Fales’ (traditional homes) are open with no walls, havin only blinds to shield them rom bad weather. I could o on orever about their unique cultures and liestyles – but it is somethin you have to see or yoursel!

UNBEATABLE
Next stop was Vanuatu, also known or bein the rst place ‘Survivor’ was taped. Here is where I visited the most maical place I’ve ever seen in my entire lie. We stumbled across a pristine junle with wateralls all throuhout it. The pictures do it no justice, to this day I still et shivers just thinkin about i t. We walked upwards and saw mini wateralls with pools o sprin water and the scenery was just amain. As we continued throuh we came to the very top and I had to stop and just take it all in; the main waterall was cascadin rom so hih and rom where we were standin the panoramic view was absolutely breathtakin.
PAssioN
& ExPERIENCE
Hawai‘i is a destination that sells itsel, and everythin you’ve heard or seen is absolutely accurate. I had hih expectations upon arrivin there a nd I was s till blown away. Every island has its own unique cultural vibe and there is somethin or everyone – that is the beauty o a vacation in Hawai‘i. Personally, I loved the laid back culture o Lahaina in Maui, the patios and the boutique shoppin as well as the beautiul scenery, amain beaches and wildlie.
