Astrological Pointers for ForeignTravel/ Stay
Generally 9th and12th houses of ahoroscope are the relevant houses of the chart to be studied in this regard. Ifthese houses fall in moveable signs ( Aries Aries,, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn) or water signs (Cancer, Scorpio Scorpio,P ,P isces),then there is apossibility of foreign travel(ortravel over the seas!). It is obvious from the abov e that Canceris a powerful sign in this regard as it is b oth amoveable sign and awatery sign. Thus ifthe 9th or 12th houses of ahoroscope fall in these signs, orif the 9th or 12th house lords fall in these signs, you may deduce that foreign travel is indicatedfor such natives. The motive of the foreign travel can be deducedby planetary influences. For example, ifthe 4th house lord of ahoroscope is placed in the 9th house which happens to be amoveable sign, or awatery sign, and is conjunct the 1 2th house lord, you may deduce that the native will be traveling abroad for higher education (4th house stands for basic education; 9th house stands for advanced courses/ specializations). If the 4th house lord is in the 12th house (the 12th house being indicative offoreign jaunts as discussed above), then the native may findit more auspicious tostay abroad. I have personally come across natives whofeel more “at home” abroad, andthey find it easier tolive by Indian
spiritual traditions when they live abroad than when they live in India India.. Inscrutable are the ways offate and highly interesting are the t heastrological astrological combinations that provide clues about destiny!
Association of5th,9 th, and 12th lords ni thedasamshaindicate the dasamshaindicatetravelingabroadfor professionalreasons .These persons are usually employedas skilled work-force (scientists, professors, etc.) abroad. If there is aDharma-karmaathipathi yogaassociatedwith the 12thhouse, the native may go on to win prestigious awards in the foreign country, and in some cases even get elected tohigh constitutional posts like Senator/ Governor/ Chairman ofBoard ofStudies, etc. Curiously similar combinations will be foundin the horoscopes ofIndian Envoys posted abroad. Similar are the results when 10th a nd 12th lords ofthe dasamshahave mutual aspect orassociation. nd It shouldbe noted that while moveable signs indicate travels away from homeland andhence might indicate longstay abroad, common signs indicatingforeign travel signify that the person might travel alot toforeign lands, but there will be noextended stay there, i.e. they willvisit the foreign lands on professionalvisits of ashort duration – may be toa maximum of 5years at astretch and return back tothe homeland.

Travelingto new places, meetingnew people either for purpose ofbusiness or just for pleasure helps gainsknowledge andbroaden our horizonsand perspective. It makes uswiser. For a long time now, Indianshave chosen togo abroadfor the same ofempl oyment -to avail ofopportunities for professional satisfaction andto make more money. Arguably thistrend isreversing in the lastfew years asthe economy revives in India but visiting other countriesis still consideredas
desirable anda source ofexcitement for a lot ofpeople.
There are variousreasons why people move from one place to another:
•
Journeyswithin a geographical region due to nature ofwork -what we colloquially call "travelingjob".
•
Businesstravel to aforeign land.
•
Tourism or pilgrimage.
•
Change isresidence due to profession or after marriage ifthe spouse issettled in a different place.
Astrologically, the rulesto be considered for predictingtravel are:
•
12th House: In a horoscope,12th house shows separation. Malefic influenceson 12th house make a person wander from place to place.
•
3rd and 9th House:While 4th house representscomfort ofa house, 3rdand 9th being12th (causingseparation) and6th (alien-ness) from 4th denote journeys.3rd house shouldbe considered for short journeysand 9th for long journeys. Ithink thisis due to thefact that from 9th house wealso lookat religion andhence pilgrimages, which usually were very longin olden times. Moreover, malefic influenceson 4th house,by way of
occupation will make one leave his/her birth place, i.e.travel to a foreign location.
•
7th House:A lot of sageshave mentioned in their works thatresidence in foreign countriesshould be lookedat from seventh house.
•
Movable and Watery signs:Positionof lordsofabovementionedhousesinthese signsindicatestravel.
•
Rahu and Saturn: These planetsinfluence travel in their dasha andantardasha.Rahu signifies the foreign element in thechart, somethingthat is unconventional andout of ordinary.
•
Sun: While positionedin any ofthe houses- 3rd, 7th,9th and12th, Sun influences journeys.
To understandthe conditionsthat leadto foreign travel, combinations between these planetsand housesare important.Ascendant lord in moveable or watery sign alongwith 9th and/or 12th house lordwould indicate foreign travel.Combinations with 3rdhouse lordwould indicate short travelsinstead ofl ong, overseas travel.
Influence of7th house lordis necessary for settlingin aforeign country.Inf luence ofRahu or other malefic planetson 4th wouldgive the same result by causingestrangement andwould show a person leavingthe comfortsof residence. Placement of4th house lordin 12th house hasa similar effect. These combinations alongwith other combination ofjourneys wouldmean a one way itcket to aforeign country.Correspondingly, beneficial influences on 4th house in
combination with 9th house would indicate increased attachment with the original place ofresidence andthe person would come backhome.
The timingof journey isalways governed by 9th or12th house lords andplanets influencing these houseseither though aspect or occupation ofthe house.Influence of lordof difficult houses- 6th house andin particular 8th house wouldi ndicate problemswith travel, e.g.an unfavourable Marsin a chart in thisscenario wouldindicate possible accidentswhi le traveling.
Here ishow the feeling or thought behind“going abroad” haschanged:
In olden days, going abroad usually meant crossingthe ocean andthereby losingone’s caste / religion or one went abroadwhen banished from the kingdom. The implication here isthat it wasa bad thing to happen unlike the present situation where itisthought of to be a great achievement togo abroadfor studies or job.
So, what wasmisfortune in olden daysis now consideredto be agreat fortune!
Another perspective ison the definition of“foreign”. In olden days, aperson going from say,Mysore Kingdom to Nizam’s Dominion couldbe thought ofas goingto a foreign country. Now it is only a matter of goingfrom a city in Karnataka to another city in Andhra Pradesh.
Finally, what about folks who movedduring partition from Lahore to Amritsar orfrom Decca to Kolkota.Though they have traveled only a short distance, it isa foreign country that they have gone to.
From the perspective ofJyothish:
a)“foreig n” isassociatedto Rahu andKetu - implying a different religion,d ifferent race,etc.
b) voyagesare long journeys and are linkedto 7th house and watery signs
c) pilgrimages are linked to 9th house
d) exile is linked to the 12th house
e) frequent travelsare linked to movable signs
f) Short trips are linked to 3rdhouse
I know the case ofa childwh o wasborn in Hyderabad, AP,at his maternal grandfather’splace andmoved to Bangalore wherehisfather stays in his5th month. Hisascendant lordis Marswhich isin the 12th house.Balance ofMars dasha at birth wasaround2 years. So can it be saidthat duringthe ascendant lord’sdasha, the person went away from hisplace of birth to live in another placebecause the ascendant lordis in the 12th?
On the lighter side, isit “foreign”enough, though both the citiesare in India? Why I askthis question is
a)Hyderabad cuisine isdifferent from Bangalore cuisine
b) Hyderabadlingo isdifferent from Bangalore’sli ngo
c) Generally, the attitudesof people are different
At least thisis what the child’s dad saysto console his (the child’s) mom who expressesher disappointment once in a while at not being able to go “foreign”even though married to an IT professional
Foreign Travels After analysis of number of horoscope It has been observed the various principles and planets combination that promotes Foreign Travels. The House involved in Foreign Travels are 1st house, 3rd house, 4th house, 7th house, 8th house, 9th house and 12th house. One must examine the zodiac sign in these houses and planetary affects on these houses. The Dasa and Anterdasa of theses planets are also helpful in Foreign Travels. Some of these principles are given below: 1. 9th house signifies long journeys. The 9th lord in 9th with Rahu make's one father famous in a foreign country. If such combination exits in the horoscope of child, his father may live in foreign country and naturally gives to the child foreign connection. 2. 12th house being 4th from 9th has been given major role for residence in a foreign country. 3. If the 9th lord is exalted in the 12th house, one attains distinction firstly in his/her own country and then travels to foreign countries. If 12th house is movable or common sign, it gives better results. 4. If 2nd lord is in the 12th one becomes rich in foreign country. If 2nd lord is strong then it is very beneficial. 5. As per Bhrigu, Moon in 11th gives love marriage and residence in foreign country. Sun in ascendant gives fortune abroad. 6.
As per Manteshwar Moon in 9th means Foreign Travels.
7. Rahu signifies all things related to foreign countries. It's dasa is most interesting as it gives lots of change and unlimited wealth if well placed But it does not promise satisfaction. 8. If most of the planets are placed in in movable or dual sign, then native travels abroad frequently. 9. If there is connection between 5th, 10th, 12th, 7th and 9th house and dasa of planet related to these houses is running then person travels abroad for education purpose. 10. If 10th lord is in 12th house then native has to work at far off places.
11. Saturn in 9th house also gives lots of foreign Travels. 12. If Saturn, Jupiter and 12th lord are well placed then native goes abroad for setting up an Ashram or in quest of spiritual mission.
