BAB I PENDAHULUAN
Latar Belakang Dewasa ini perkembangan zaman semakin marak dan cepat mengakibatkan perkembangan perkembangan teknologi yang semakin maju. Seiring perkembangan perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat, maka dibutuhkan komponen-komponen yang mendukung perkembangan teknologi yang pesat tersebut, seperti halnya peyediaan logam, disadari atau tidak unsur logam ini sangatlah penting dalam proses pengembangan teknologi bahkan hampir menambah semua aspek kehidupan manusia. Material-material tersebut seharusnya memiliki sifat-sifat material yang memenuhi suatu standar yang ditentukan, salah satu sifat yang seharusnya memenuhi standar adalah sifat fisik suatu material, untuk menentukan menentukan sifat fisik suatu material maka kita memerlukan data dan analisis struktur mikro material tersebut t ersebut agar material tersebut bisa dengan mudah mudah kita tentukan sifat atau karakteristiknya. karakteristiknya. Dengan pengetahuan yang kita miliki tentang struktur mikro maka dapat mempermudah kita dalam menganalisis suatu material

BAB II TEORI DASAR
Struktur mikro pada material sangat erat kaitannya dengan sifat pada logam tersebut. Pengubahan struktur mikro pada logam khususnya bisa melalui pengaturan laju pendinginan yang akan mengubah sifat baja dikenal dengan istilat Heat Treatment. Macam-macam Heat Treatment ini adalah Annealing, Quenching, Normalizing dan Tempering.
Annealing Annealing adalah suatu proses perlakuan panas (heat treatment) yang sering dilakukan terhadap logam atau paduan dalam proses pembuatan suatu produk. Tahapan dari proses annealing ini ini dimulai dengan memanaskan logam (paduan) sampai temperatur tertentu, menahan pada temperatur tertentu tadi selama beberapa waktu tertentu agar tercapai perubahan perubahan yang diinginkan lalu mendinginkan logam atau paduan tadi dengan laju pendinginan yang cukup lambat. Jenis annealing itu itu beraneka ragam, tergantung pada jenis atau kondisi benda kerja, temperatur pemanasan, pemanasan, lamanya waktu penahanan, laju pendinginan (cooling rate), dll. rate), dll. Pemanasan produk setengah jadi pada suhu 850-9500⁰C dalam waktu yang tertentu, lalu didinginkan secara perlahan. Proses ini berlangsung didapur besar/kasar. (furnace). Butiran (furnace). Tempering Tempering dimaksudkan untuk membuat baja yang telah dikeraskan agar lebih menjadi liat, yaitu dengan cara memanaskan kembali baja yang telah diquench pada temperature antara 300⁰F sampai dengan 1200⁰F selama 30 sampai 60 menit, kemudian didinginkan dengan temperatur kamar. Proses ini dapat menyebabkan kekerasan menjadi sedikit menurun tetapi kekuatan logam akan menjadi lebih kuat.
Dalam pengamatan struktur mikro, dapat terlihat fasa-fasa dalam suatu material. Fasa adalah suatu daerah dimana pada rentang dan komposisi tertentu mempunyai sifat yang sama. Antara fasa satu dengan fasa yang lain akan dibatasi oleh batas fasa. Di dalam struktur mikro terdapat istilah butir, butir adalah kumpulan sel satuan yang mempunyai arah dan orientasi gerak yang sama yang dilihat dari arah dua dimensi. Batas butir adalah daerah perbatasan antara butir yang satu dengan butir yang lainnya, dimana pada daerah batas butir ini adalah adalah daerah yang yang tidak stabil. Diagram Fasa Fe-C

Dapat dilihat bahwa pada diagram fasa di atas ada beberapa jenis fasa yaitu, Perlit, Bainit, Ferit, Austenit, dan Martensit. Perbedaan dari Perlit, Bainit, dan Martensit disebabkan karena ada variasi laju pendinginan. Laju pendinginan yang sangat cepat akan menghasilkan Martensit, laju pendinginan yang cukup cepat tetapi tidak mampu menghasilkan Martensit akan membentuk Bainit, sedangkan laju pendinginan yang lambat akan membentuk Perlit. Untuk dapat melihat struktur mikro dari suatu material khususnya logam kita bisa menggunakan teknik Metallography. Metallography adalah ilmu yang mempelajari karakteristik, struktur dari suatu logam atau paduan. Teknik Metallography ini ada beberapa tahapan, tahapan, yaitu :
Sectioning Spesimen uji dipotong dengan ukuran tertentu
Mounting Pemberian resin pada spesimen uji disekelilingnya agar material tersebut bisa dipegang.
Grinding, Polishing & Etching Menghaluskan permukaan material dengan menggunakan grinding menggunakan grinding dan polishing dan polishing , grinding yaitu dengan menggunakan amplas sedangkan polishing dengan menggunakan kain beludru, pasta gigi yang mengandung alumina atau silica. Etching adalah proses pencelupan material pada zat kimia tertentu biasanya adalah larutan etsa, yang berfungsi untuk membentuk kontur pada permukaan material.

Jika dibandingkan dengan literatur yang terdapat pada bab 3 di atas, maka baja karbon yang paling mendekati literatur adalah baja karbon tinggi, sebenarnya jika dilihat secara sekilas ketiga struktur mikro tersebut tidak berbeda jauh dengan literatur, tetapi karena pencahayaan pencahayaan yang kurang, dan pemosisian yang tidak sama maka struktur mikro menjadi tidak sama, dan perbedaan perbesaran yang terdapat pada literatur dan pada hasil menggunakan menggunakan mikroskop optik juga berbeda.
