NOTE: The latest automatic electronic CEC2 controls are available on all offhighway transmission transmission model families. families. Manual electric electric and manual hydraulic hydraulic models also continue to be available in the 5000 and 6000 model families. Similarly, manual electric models continue to be available for the models in the 8000 and 9000 series families. Generally the model designations models used in hauling applications are H5610, H9610, etc. while other mobile versions versions of these models are are M5610, M9610, M9610, etc. For stationary versions these model designations are S5610, S9610, etc. The "xx10" designates that these transmissions share some parts required for CEC2 controls, such as housings and speed sensors. In the case of the 5000 and 6000 transmission families, Allison Transmission continues to produce direct replacement models for CEC1 controlled transmissions. transmissio ns. These are available as a customer convenience as replacements for CEC1 models used in existing installations due to the large volume of 5000 5000 and 6000 CEC1 models models in the field. CEC1 models are no longer available in the 8000 and 9000 model families. However, CEC2 models in any family can be used as replacements for CEC1 models by utilizing jumper harnesses as described in Section G: CEC2 Support Equipment and Controls Definition Worksheets of the CEC2 Electronic Controls manual. This document, document, along with with other technical technical reference reference information, may be found in the Tech Data section of the Extranet channel of the Allison Transmission website www.allisontransmission.com. SECTION F:
INSTALLA INSTALLATION TION OF INPUT / OUTPUT (I/O) FUNCTIONS USED IN "VOCATION" PACKAGES
1.0 GENERAL The purpose of this section is to discuss the installation requirements of programmable Input and Output controls functions which may be included in various "vocational" controls packages. For detailed descriptions of the operation of each Input and Output (I/O) function, and suggested vehicle uses for these transmission control system features, refer to Section E: Selecting Input and Output Functions for Your Vehicle of this manual. Unless otherwise noted, all documents referenced in this section may be found in the Tech Data section of the Extranet channel of the Allison Transmission website www.allisontransmission.com . To locate these documents, which are identified by italic font, font, look for Tech Data under the Engineering heading on the Extranet home page. Contact your Allison representative represe ntative if you do not have access to the Allison Transmission Extranet.
2.0 THE EFFECT OF TRANSMISSION TRANSMISSION AND CONTROLS CONTROLS CONFIGURATION CONFIGURATION ON I/O AVAILABILITY The number of input and output functions which are available for use in controlling transmission operation and/or vehicle functions will be dependent upon the transmission model, its options, and the configuration of the transmission transmission controls. For instance, integration integration of the retarder and its functional control into the vehicle design requires the use of three functions — one dedicated "input" and two dedicated "output" "output" functions. Thus, the number number of additional inputs and and outputs which may be used in support of other vehicle functions in these vehicles is affected accordingly. Two shift selectors may be used to control a single transmission when multiple vehicle control stations are required. In some vehicles of this type, it might be desirable desirable to use different shift calibra-
3.0 INPUT AND OUTPUT FUNCTIONS In addition to providing operational control of the transmission, the transmission control system may also contribute to the performance of other vehicle functions which are tailored to the expected duty of the vehicle. For example, consider the following controls functions which facilitate use of the transmission as the safe and efficient drive for for the pumping system system on an oil field pumping rig . Some controls signals, signals, called "Input Functions", send vehicle data to the ECU to designate the operating state of other vehicle systems. The transmission ECU ECU analyzes the input input signals and determines determines if they are consistent with pre-programmed pre-programmed operating operating parameters. If so, other electrical signals, signals, called "Output "Output Functions", are sent out of the ECU to affect the control or operation of other non-transmission components components in the vehicle. In this manner, manner, the transmission ECU may may be used in the control of a special transmission or vehicle function which could be only remotely related to the transmission's primary purpose — vehicle propulsion. Generally, input functions are activated and deactivated by switching power or ground to the ECU. (Some inputs may use the MODE button on the shift selector, if available, for this purpose). purpose) . An input function is normally used to initiate logic decisions in the ECU which cause the transmission and /or control system to operate in a programmed manner specifically designed for the activated function. An output function is typically used to alert other vehicle systems or components components when a specificallyidentifiable condition (or set of conditions) has been detected by the transmission controls system. In so doing, the ECU is used used to control the switching of relays relays (included in the VIM) to control control power or ground to the control circuit of the auxiliary vehicle function. For detailed descriptions of each of the input and output functions, refer to Section E: Customizing The Controls Configuration To Your Vehicle of this manual. Several of these input and output functions become operable operable only when certain conditions conditions exist. In some cases, the conditions conditions which govern this logic may be customer specified. Section E also also contains a summary of the userselectable parameters for each of the input and output functions, and the Standard Value which is
If any of these input functions are enabled in the shift calibration, they must be properly integrated into the wiring system of the vehicle in which they are installed. If the function is not being used in the vehicle, it MUST BE disabled in the calibration. Undesirable transmission or vehicle operation resulting from failure to comply with this requirement is not the responsibility of Allison Transmission or General Motors Corporation. Refer to the tabulated data in the multiple pages of Table F1. All available Input Functions and Output Functions are listed in the left column. The main body of each table consists of several columns of numbers (or blank spaces), each column representing an available package of I/O functions for the particular vocational area. The three-digit number in a cell indicates the wire number in that package associated with the control of the I/O in the left column. An "M" in the cell designates that an Input Function in the package is activated by the MODE button on the shifter. All available I/O packages for each type of vehicle application are grouped together in individual tables: Table F1-100: Rear Dump Table F1-200: Bottom Dump Table F1-300: On/Off Highway Truck Table F1-400: Oil Field Table F1-500: Coal Auger Table F1-600: Trencher Table F1-700: Crash Truck Table F1-800: Crane
4.1 SELECTING A DIFFERENT I/O PACKAGE The diagnostic reprogramming tool may be used to change the ECU calibration from one I/O package to another if both the existing I/O package and the new I/O package are within the same vocational group. For detailed information, refer to the user instructions for the diagnostic reprogramming tool.
