I have read too many blogs where people have spent millions of pesos to build sub-standard sub-standard houses that really will need endless maintenace to keep them liveable. liveable. In my work I constantly constantly see peoples hearts and budgets broken as they attempt to renovate or build a house. Quite often my advice comes post disaster. So it is with this experience and alot of research that I started to build my first house in the Philippines. Philippines. I kept the floor plan simple- 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, bathroom, lounge/family room and large eat in kitchen with verandahs surrounding the entire house. The total area of 140 sq metres. Built on a 100mm concrete slab with tied steel with a concrete post and beam construction. The walls are rendered 100mm filled concrete blocks tied with steel to the slab and horizontal beam. This part of the build is cost and labour intensive intensive but will pay for itself with years of maintenance free living. The roof is corrugated corrugated steel on a steel truss welded and tied to the slab via steel thru the concrete blocks. The total material cost 310,000 pesos Building time approximately 8 weeks with a total labour cost of 80,000 pesos.
