RF Trace Support Call trace is a 3GPP compliant tracing mechanism - Scalability & interworking with probe was not a key requirement in the 3GPP design (TS 32.422/423) - Focus only on L3
RF Trace is a new tracing mechanism in eNodeB - It does not attempt to follow strictly 3GPP specification but rather to provide an efficient & scalable tracing mechanism
- L3 tracing redesigned to add important data not required by TS 32.322/323 and to remove redundancy with probe - Key metrics from L1/L2 are reported - Some user plane metrics are reported
RF Trace can be run simultaneously with call trace

WTA Benefits
Allows export of data in multiple formats
Nokia Internal Use
Interactive call trace activation & automated call trace data collection from network elements
No costly probes needed !
End to End troubleshooting of call trace data for multiple protocol layers. Includes decoding of Nokia proprietary messaging and 3GPP/3GPP2.
Use Cases The 9958 WTA efficiently addresses common problems such as identifying the reasons for subscriber authentication failures, and very complex ones requiring detailed protocol layers message decoding. The 9958 WTA is also extremely helpful for troubleshooting the behavior of new devices, or for performing in-depth analysis of call traces following a subscriber complaint. As it can combine trace analysis from multiple network elements, complex correlation of traditional probe-based traces is avoided. Introduction of a new network element, software release, or telecom feature may bring new problems that can only be identified with an end-to-end visibility of the exchanges over the different network interfaces. Handover execution in a wireless network is a critical part of a call, and can in many cases result in call drops or low Quality of Experience (QoE) perception. Detailed analysis of the handover preparation is essential to understanding the reasons behind the poor performance. WTA offers an efficient way to verify successful handoffs from one technology to another as well as analyzing failure causes. 43

eNodeB Event Based Trace – Threshold parameters Traffic Threshold - Number of Connected UE ratio for the monitored eNB cell •
eNB monitors # of RRC connected UEs in 1min sampling interval
•
At the end of 1min interval, eNB calculates the connected UE percentage for each monitored cell and compares with the configured threshold value.
•
If the calculated value is lower than the configured value, eNB start collecting the trace data whenever a UE starts a call on the traced cell.
RRC Connection Re-establishment Threshold - number of RRC Connection Re-establishment attempts eNB received from UEs for the monitored cell •
eNB monitors # of RrcConnectionReestablishmentRequest received based on 1 min sampling interval
•
At the end of 1min interval, eNB compares the value of # of RrcConnectionReestablishmentRequest received, with the configured value.
•
If value for # of RrcConnectionReestablishmentRequest received is greater than the configured value then eNB start collecting trace data whenever a UE starts a call on the traced cell.
IRAT Handover Threshold - number of outgoing Inter-RAT Handover Redirection Attempts eNB sent to UEs for the monitored cell
48
•
eNB calculates the number of IRAT HO redirection 1min sample
•
eNB Compare it with the configured iratHOThreshold value for each monitored cell.
•
If the calculated value is greater than the iratHOThreshold value, then eNB start collecting trace data whenever a UE starts a call in the traced cell.
