Rhythm Rumbles
7
Over a period of several rehearsals, introduce these rhythm rumbles one at a time, teaching the chant and the correct rhythm by rote. Take time to emphasize the concept of steady beat. Once your choristers have mastered the first rumble, teach the next. When they have learned two rumbles, divide them into teams and have team one chant “Basketball” while team two chants “Soccer,” beginning and ending together. When your choristers have learned all three rumbles, the “part-thinking” fun increases! Divide your choristers into three teams and have them chant all three rumbles simultaneously. Finally, challenge your choristers to write their own rumbles by assigning a time signature and a set number of measures to each team. They will enjoy being creative and will increase their knowledge of rhythm and music notation in the process.

Echo Songs
8
The Lord Is My Shepherd When first teaching this piece, the director should sing Part I, inviting the choir to echo as Part II. Gradually add choristers to Part I until there are even groups of singers on each part. At that point, the director should be able to drop out. For a responsorial psalm in worship, try having the choir sing Part I and the congregation sing Part II.

Share God’s Love* This simple song may be performed as a unison song, a two-part round, or a three-part round, and may be sung a cappella or with accompaniment. The instrumental parts can be played by any combination of Orff instruments, handbells, or handchimes, depending on what you have available. Feel free to use just one or two of the parts, or all three. The instruments can all begin together or you can layer them in as the round progresses. Use one or more playing the four-measure pattern as an introduction. The parts can also be played on the piano in various octaves, if desired.

Sing Alleluia This simple song may be performed as a unison song, a two-part round, or a three-part round, and may be sung a cappella or with accompaniment. The instrumental parts can be played by any combination of Orff instruments, handbells, or handchimes, depending on what you have available. Feel free to use just one or two of the parts, or all three. The instruments can all begin together or you can layer them in as the round progresses. Use one or more playing the two-measure pattern as an introduction. The parts can also be played on the piano in various octaves, if desired. Use the main lyrics for general use or the alternate lyrics for Christmas or Easter. Consider using in worship as a processional or introit.

Gloria Deo* Sing in unison or as a two-part round. Consider adding these simple movements to help provide a kinesthetic anchor for each phrase of the round: Ms. 1-4: Take four steps forward with your hands by your sides. Ms. 5-8: Raise both hands upward slowly and follow with eyes. Ms. 9-12: Take four steps backward, lowering hands gradually to rest again at your side. Feel free to elaborate on these depending on time, rehearsal space, and the ability of your group.
