The Devil Wears Prada The Movie: The movie starts with an ordinary girl who is living an ordinary life having no style sense. As compared to the other girls who are focusing on their physical appearance and outward show by hiding them under brands, Andy was giving a gaze to her appointment book only with an ordinary dressing. These girls are diet conscious where as Andy eats a full fat burger, they are status conscious and prefer to go in a taxi or car whereas Andy goes in a subway for the job. Runway is fashion magazine in Elias-Clarke publications, Runway is one of the most influential magazines in fashion, a multibillion-dollar industry and Mir anda anda P riestl riestl y is the icy editor-in-chief of R unway. unway. Miranda¶s driver send a text message to Emily before her arrival and then whole runway engaged in following the rules like cabin arrangement , wearing specific shoes , Emily fill glass put books on table.
Human resource dept is separately deal with the recruiters and then send the selected one to runway and this time they select the Andy Who is odd one out. And rea rea Sach s as "Andy" is an aspiring journalist fresh out of Northwestern University but she lands the job "a million girls would kill´. During her interview with Miranda she tell her that she did not read R unway unway and she did not hear about her, she is not skinny , glamorous and also not fit in here but she is smart and learn fast. Andy selected as a junior (second) assistant to Miranda, with senior assistant Emil y Charlto Charlton n. Emily is the in charge of her schedules, appointment expenses and most importantly going for Paris. Second assistant is supposed to deliver the book of runway in Miranda¶s house but Emily deliver ³The Book´(a mock-up of the next edition's feature spreads) at every night because Miranda is very private and do not like strangers in her house.

Andy celebrates this with her Boyfriend N ate C ooper ooper : a cook at a Manhattan restaurant Lil y: Andrea's close friend, who runs an art gallery . Doug : A college friend of Andrea, who seems to work as a corporate research analyst. He also shows an extensive knowledge of fashion, R unway unway magazine, and Miranda Priestly. They all the same time making fun of their jobs that sucks the m.
On first day of her job she gets call from Emily at 6:00am. She reaches a bit late whereas Miranda is waiting for her coffee and Emily told her that this is a difficult job. Andy go to the Calvin Klein for buying the skirts and since after she left Emily can¶t go anywhere because there is R un un through at 12:30 and phone is ringing off the hook . Andy get insulted by Miranda when she said ³I am still learning about this stuff´ then Miranda give the whole history of Andy¶s sweeter and told her the sweeter you are wearing does not exempt you from the Fashion industry infects it is selected for you by the people in this room. Andy told Nate about Miranda attitude and about the ³clackers´ its the sounds that her coworkers stilettos made on the marble lobby, made fun of her coworkers that they spent a lot of time and energy on insignificant minute details they did not even need, these women obsessed with their looks and coveted designer handbags that were at least twice as much as their monthly salaries. Andy decided to stick on that job one year then she can do for what she came to do.
Miranda makes Andy life very difficult at runway. Andy tried her best to do the job right. Miranda possessed a management style that was vague in her objectives and without any guidance to the employees, i.e., ³Get me that little table I like in that store on Madison´ or ³Where¶s that piece of paper I had in my hand yesterday morning?´ or ³Have the break checked of my car?´. The way of throwing her bag and coat in front of Andy is quiet insulting. Andy¶s father is coming from Mohall to visit her in New York City and she is going for dinner. Andy¶s father is little upset for this job but Andy convinces him that being a Miranda assistant open a lot of door. During dinner Miranda calls her and said the airports in Florida where she is are all closed due to a hurricane but she needs to get home and orders Andy to get her home somehow. Andy tries every airline company there is, but none of them are flying out because of the weather. When Miranda does arrive back at the office she tells Andy that she always hire stylish slander girl who worship the magazine but they all somehow are stupid but this time she take a chance and hire a smart fat girl who talk about work ethics but Andy ended up with the disappointment more than any other of her previous assistants.

He tells Andy that you are not trying you are just whining, he realize Andy that it just not a magazine people live life in it. Andy decides to change and ask for the Nigel help. Initially Emily and her friend get surprised from her change then gradually she learns her responsibilities and begins to dress more stylishly. Slowly but surely, Andy begins to sacrifice her personal life to her career. Now she has the knowledge of Fashion on which her boyfriend gets surprise. Miranda notices the change in Andy. Andy went to the James Holt party for collecting the sketch of Miranda dress of Benefit and the sketch of James Holt spring collection. Here she met Ch Christi risti an an Thompso Thompson n an up-and-coming magazine writer. Andy told him that she is a big fan of him and used to read his essay from her college time. He asked Andy for sending her essay to him, Andy told him that right now she is working as an assistant of Miranda then Christian said you are smart nice you can never survive with Miranda. Miranda still used to call Andy as Emily. She called her and asking her to arrange a preview meeting of James Holt collection today. Nigel told Andy that before a designer showed up his collection Miranda went to him and sees his collection. Miranda give her reaction about the collection in her style like she give scale one node is good, two node is very good, when she likes something she shakes her head and there is a specific purse of her lips which means now designer will change his whole collection only her opinion matter a lot. After the meeting Miranda starts giving notes to Andy and Andy complete her line before she said. Miranda get impress and said:´ Andrea I would like you to deliver The Book´. Andy feels proud as Emily told her before that Miranda doesn't allow 'strangers' in her house. Emily explains her that she has to behave as if she is 'invisible' while she delivers the book at Miranda's house. However, Andy is tricked by Miranda's daughters into going upstairs, where she inadvertently walks in on Miranda and her husband arguing. Mortified, she drops the book and leaves.
Miranda punishes Andy for her mistake by giving her an impossible task: securing the unpublished manuscript for the next Book in the Harry Potter series for her twin daughters to read on the train. Andy tried her best to get it. She contacts in a lot of publishers for it but she did not get it. Then suddenly she remembers the Christian and called him he also said it¶s impossible. Andy get panic Miranda told her that if she do not have the book she do not even bother to come back. Andy calls Nate that she is failed and going to quit. Nate congratulates her for her decision she is just about to quit when

Christian informs her that he has obtained it for her. Andy delivers the copies to a stunned Miranda and keeps her job. Nate comes home with the things of celebration and he came to know that Andy is still continuing the job, Andy told him that it doesn¶t make sense to run away of all those month of hard work, it¶s just a moment of weakness. He gets disappoint and told her that he do not like this new Andy but Andy told him she is still the same person. Andy and Nigel have a talk and Andy told him that her personal life is hanging by the threat. Nigel told her that it happens all the time when we start working well on the job so now it¶s the time to get promotion.
When Emily falls ill, Miranda commands Andy to accompany the two of them to a charity benefit, where the two mas querades as partygoers while actually reminding her of important information about the people approaching her for greeting. Andy start working for the benefit but today is Nate¶s birthday. Andy calls Lily that she tries her best to be on time. Andy selects a dress for the party that looks beautiful on her. At the event, Andy saves Miranda from being embarrassed by Emily, who had forgotten the name of Ambassador Franklin and his wife R ebecca. ebecca. Miranda meets Jacqueline Foley, the editorin-chief of French R unway unway and Miranda's rival. At party Andy turns down an offer to meet a big publisher from Christian, but all the while misses her boyfriend's birthday party. One evening, while returning The Book, Miranda tell her that Paris trip is most important week of her entire year and she informs her that she needs "the best team possible" for her Paris trip, which means stepping over Emily. Andy hesitates, as Emily has been boasting about going to Paris for months, but Miranda tells her that declining will send the message that she is not committed to her job or any future job at another publication. Andy gets upset it¶s a very difficult decision for her, but Andy accepts the offer because of the threat on her career. The next day Miranda then tells Andy to be the bearer of bad news to Emily who, meanwhile, is hurrying back to the office after purchasing scarves from Hermes of Paris for Miranda. Just as Andy is about to tell her, Emily crosses at a "no cross" point and is hit by a taxi. Andy has a rough day confronting Emily about Paris Emily got mad on this news and tells Andy that you have said that you don¶t care about this stuff and Fashion then why are you accepting this? Emily told Andy that ³face it´ you always get that which you don¶t deserve it¶s so unfair.

Andy tells Dough that she is going to Paris at Lily's art gallery, and he shows his a lot of excitement and named a lot of designers to whom she is going to meet like Valentino Garavani. She meets Christian here and he tells her that he is thinking of her and the fun they make in Paris. Andy accepts a kiss on the cheek from Christian and Lily catches this and berates her and tells her that she knows you from last 16 years but this glamour zone she don¶t even know. Andy confronts her boyfriend about the fact that she is going to Paris. Nate tells Andy that I thought its Emily who is excited for going Paris and all about Fashion. You used to make fun of the R unway unway girl now you are one of them. He realizes that they no longer have anything in common, and they break up, due to the giving strain her job places on their relationship.
In Paris, Andy attends the shows and even meets designer Valentino Garavani, being introduced as "the new Emily". One night Andy comes into Miranda's suite only to find her in her bathrobe, undressed, and crying. While deciding on a seating chart, Miranda opens up saying that her husband is divorcing her, and again the press would write rude things about her such as ³career obsessed woman´ who doesn't care for family but that her biggest worry is for her daughters, who have lost yet another father. Then after this emotional trauma she suddenly starts giving notes to Andy for the evening. Andy said to her that she can cancel the evening but Miranda said not to do it. Andy also asks Miranda that anything she can do for her she says ³your job´. Andy also gets upset and while putting mascara on her eyes she got a flash back of old Andy. Nigel comes for Miranda¶s work then he admired Andy for her groomed personality and tells her that now she has learned and his work has done. Nigel told Andy that he has landed a job as creative director at fashion designer James Holt's new company. Nigel shares his feeling of excitement with Andy and tells her that it¶s a reward of his 18 years work. Nigel still used to call Andy size 6 but Andy told him that now she is size 4. And they both celebrate for their achievement. Andy has dinner with Christian who figures out that she is single again. Christian talks pessimistic about Miranda but Andy defends her. After a few glasses of wine she succumbs to Christian's charms. In his hotel room the next morning, while dressing, Andy finds out that R unway's unway's owner is planning to replace Miranda with Jac queline Foley. Surprised, she asks Christian about it who confirms it saying that Miranda has become old and that Jac queline will bring fresh change to the magazine. Andy rushes to the door while Christian stops her calling her 'baby' to which she replies that she is not his 'baby'. Andy storms out to find Miranda and warn her. When Andy finally tells her, Miranda seems unfazed. At a luncheon in honor of James Holt, Miranda

announces that Jac queline Foley will be the new creative director of James Holt's company. Andy and Nigel and Christian gets astonished. Nigel says that when the time is right she will pay me back Andy asks him is he sure about that he said I should hope for the best. En route to another event, Miranda explains to a still-stunned Andy that she knew about the plan to get rid of her all along, but she found an alternative for Jac queline and presented "The List" (a list of all the designers, stylists, company owners, and models that were "raised and nurtured" by Miranda and who have promised their loyalty to her whenever and should she ever leave R unway) unway) to the owner of R unway, unway, who realized that without those people, R unway unway would suffer greatly, and was forced to reconsider. Miranda also says that she was pleased by Andy's display of loyalty and that she sees a great deal of herself in her. Andy says she could never do to anyone what Miranda did to Nigel. Miranda replies that she already did, in stepping over Emily. Miranda tentatively comforts her, saying that those choices are necessary to live the life that she lives. At the event, Andy gets out of the car and simply walks away. When receiving a call from Miranda, she throws her phone into a fountain on the Place de la Concorde.
Back in New York, she meets her boyfriend for breakfast. Andy told him that she hurts her family and friends for nothing and now she is sorry. Nate tells her that he has accepted an offer to work as a souse-chef in a popular Boston restaurant. Andy is disappointed, but her hope is rejuvenated when he says they could work something out. Andy goes to an interview for a newspaper job. Interviewer asks her why she leaves unway. She tells him that she has learned a lot but in the end she screwed it up. The R unway. interviewer reveals that Miranda told him she was by far her biggest disappointment, but that if he did not hire her, he would be an idiot. Afterwards Andy calls Emily while walking past the R unway unway office and offers to send Emily all of the outfits Andy got while in Paris, Emily feigns imposition saying the clothes will "absolutely drown her" but accepts. After the call Andy then sees Miranda getting into her car across the street. They exchange looks and Andy smiles at her, but Miranda acts as if the two are strangers, which Andy takes in good grace. Once in the car, Miranda smiles slightly before curtly telling her driver "Go."

Her first scene in the movie depicts that. People moves away from her and change their direction because she will not give them way. No one can be in the elevator with her. So we perceive that she is a power distant person. Fashion and beauty is mandatory for her. All her female employees have to wear high heels and look good. She appoints Andrea as her second assistant where as she knows that Andy has no knowledge of fashion and R unway. unway. But she wants to check the abilities of a fat and a nd intelligent girl. It depicts her risk taking attribute. unway is her passion. And fashion is a necessity for her. That¶s why; she gives a long R unway speech to Andy on her careless attitude towards fashion. It shows her affective commitment with her job. She wants perfect results and only appreciates those who work according to her set standards. Otherwise, she does not even bother to call her assistant by her name. She wants to be with her daughters and do not care about storm. It shows that she is a caring mother. She is very unpredictable. She has her own standards to appreciate her good worker. She awarded them by calling their names and by giving them unwanted gifts. She allows Andy to touch and deliver the mock up book after

checking her for months. It depicts her uncertainty avoidance. She can be very mean if some one disobeys her. She gives Andy an impossible task as a punishment she does not follow her directions while delivering the book in her home. It shows that she is very possessive about her personal life. She believes that ends can justify means. When Emily, her 1 st best assistant, gets ill she easily replaces her with Andrea. And Nigel was her favorite colleague in whole movie but when she sacrifices the friendship to save her job. It depicts that she is high mach.
Andrea Sachs: Designation: 2nd assistant of editor in chief Personality: Intelligent, Self Monitor, Highly Flexible Andrea is a simple and smart girl. She believes in simple living and high thinking. She is not fashion conscious at all. She follows her dream because she moved to New York after graduation to be a journalist. But she has to join RUNWAY, a fashion magazine, because she needs a job that pays the rent. She has positive core self eval self evaluation. She has confidence on her abilities and takes her job as a challenge. She has continuous commitment with her job.
She is loving and extrovert to some extent because she has very good friends in personal life and love to spend some time with her father. And when she joins RUNWAY, she socializes and makes some good friends there, too. Andy is a self monitor person. At RUNWAY, she is like a fish out of water. But her positive personality helps her a lot. She is very nice with every one. People are Page 11
kind of mean with her on her dressing but she bears every taunt with a smile. Because, she was self satisfied and did not want to change her appearance. She takes her job so seriously because she wants to prove that she is not a loser. She is flexible and can mould herself according to the situation. So, she completely changes her outlook for her job. Her self monitor personality helps her a lot. And, she becomes the perfect combination of Beauty & Brain. She likes appreciation and wants to prove her better and better, so, she worked very hard and becomes the favorite assistant of her boss. It¶s becoming very hard for her to maintain the balance between personal and professional life. She tries a lot to give proper time to her friends but her job is her top most priority. Her friends and family get hurt from her new attitude but she compensates it by giving some gifts. She is caring by nature. Her friends think that she does not care for them any more. They thought that she is becoming career conscious and self obsessed. Her job and being like Miranda, is every thing for her. But, she is not just ignoring her friends but also her dreams because she has to to take some crucial decision to prove prove her job commitment. But she proves every one¶s perception wrong at the end when she refused to be like Miranda. She chooses herself and her friends and family over her job for which a million girls can die for.

they have same designation. She is senior and more close to Miranda. It shows her grandiose sense of self importance. She always makes fun of Andy¶s clothes with her friends. Being an art director of a fashion magazine he is fashion and size conscious. Make fun of Andy¶s clothes but she feels positive vibrations from him. She goes to Nigel when she needs a shoulder to cry on. It shows that Nigel is a good natured person.
He realizes Andy that R unway unway is not just a fashion magazine it¶s a hope for a people who wants to live in fantasy world. It is an honor to be a R unway unway employee. It depicts his affective commitme nt for his job. He is the only employee who always works according to Miranda¶s standards. Miranda relies on his work and allows him to clear things with designer. R unway unway is very versatile and innovative magazine. In R unway unway results matter then means. That is why, when Emily is ill, Miranda very easily replaces her with Andy. unway¶s ³Power Culture´ also depicts R unway¶s from its chairman¶s personality. He is a short man with huge ego. He wants results and if he can get them at a lower cost he is so ready to replace Miranda over editor in chief of French R unway, unway, Jacqueline Foley, to show his power over Miranda. But Miranda saves her job by playing back end politics.
Workplace Mobbing: R unway unway has an issue of workplace mobbing. It is a Fashion magazine, so being fashionable is kind of crucial for its employees. Every female has to look good and wear high heels, no matter what. Miranda does not like it when someone refuses to wear high heels. Andy is mobbed by Miranda. She insults her through not even calling her y her

name. She eyed her judgingly over her sense of fashion. Mobbing does not stop with just Miranda. Emily, the first assistant of editor in chief and Nigel, the art director also tease Andy on her clothes. Emily greets her with a taunt i.e. ³Human resources certainly have n sense of humor´ and uses to make fun of Andy¶s clothes with her friend. Nigel calls her size six. Andy¶s reaction on workplace mobbing is very intelligent. She cannot complaint because the editor in chief and her boss Miranda is encouraging that culture at R unway. unway. Andy handled it by socializing with R unway¶s unway¶s values, norms and coworkers. She adopts some necessary changes. And try to fit in.

Miranda also uses the extinction type of this theory, that she does not call Andy by her name this shows that she still not meet the standards yet sets by the Miranda. When Andy start working in the way Miranda wants, then she calls her by her name, its also a positive reinforcement for her it means now she is working according to the Miranda sets standards. After this achievement she does a mistake while delivering the book she somehow tricked by Miranda's daughters and went to upstairs, where she unintentionally walks in on Miranda and her husband arguing. The only source of motivation for Emily is that she is going for Paris trip, she gets all the designers cloths boots, and she will meet the designers. So she does her job very well that Miranda used to call every assistant as Emily. This also can a cause of motivation. But when Andy told her that she is not going she gets demotivated, she says to Andy that she eats crabs, she uses to say that she do not need all the fashion stuff. But she always gets what she does not deserve and it¶s so unfair. In the end Emily is still in R unway unway which shows her passion personal commitment toward her job.

They all seem to have farY reaching ambitions, committed to personal objectives, seek responsibilities, and are self-directed and hard-working towards their jobs. Like Nigel optimistic views towards her job when hr did not selected by Mirada for his dream job. The only person whose motivation toward his job open to doubt is probably Do Doug , Andrea¶s college friend who seems to occupy a position of a corporate research analyst. Doug claims his work to be boring, and tends to like show interest in fashion. In movie Andy starts off by being a Theory X employee, and eventually transforms into a Theory Y employee. Andy is obviously ambitious and hard-working. However, in the start she fails to reveal her potential as a co-assistant in R unway. unway. She does not see herself working for fashion magazine for the rest of her life and just wants to stay in the company for a year, and then she will leave this job in the search of more attractive scenario. On this perception we consider her a Theory X employee. But she alters her opinion in the course of the movie; however she faces the challenges and starts to enjoy dealing with tricky tasks.
