General : Semi-synthetic Semi-synthetic motor oil is a mineral oil blend containing 30 percent or less o synthetic oil. Synthetic Oil compounds that do not o Synthetic motor oil is created entirely from chemical compounds that include crude oil. Synthetic motor oil often has superior performance when compared to crude oil. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Recommendation by Petronas Dagangan Berhad Turbo Charged Proton : http://www.mymesra.com.my/?ch=mm_2011&pg=oil_recommender&ac=34&tpl=2011_prog ram N/A 1600cc : http://www.mymesra.com.my/?ch=mm_2011&pg=oil_recommender&ac=20&tpl=2011_prog ram ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Full Synthetic Advantages [citation needed ] The technical advantages of synthetic motor oils include: Measurably better low- and high-temperature viscosity performance at service temperature extremes Better chemical & shear stability Decreased evaporative loss Resistance to oxidation, thermal breakdown, and oil sludge problems Extended drain intervals with the environmental benefit of less oil waste. Improved fuel economy in certain engine configurations. Better lubrication during extreme cold weather starts Longer engine life Superior protection against "ash" and other deposit formation in engine hot spots (in particular in turbochargers and superchargers) for less oil burnoff and reduced chances of damaging oil passageway clogging. Increased horsepower and torque due to less initial drag on engine
Disadvantages The disadvantages of synthetic motor oils include: Potential decomposition problems in problems in certain chemical environments (predominantly in industrial use.)

Potential stress cracking of plastic components made of polyoxymethylene (POM) in the presence of polyalphaolefin (PAO). In July 1996, Consumer Reports published the results of a two-year motor oil test involving a fleet of 75 New York taxi cabs and found no noticeable advantage of synthetic oil over regular mineral oil. In their article, they noted that "Big-city cabs don't see many cold start-ups or long periods of high-speed driving in extreme heat. But our test results relate to the most common type of severe service - stop-and-go city driving." According to their study, synthetic oil is "worth considering for extreme driving conditions: high ambient temperatures and high engine load, or very cold [17] temperatures." [18] Synthetic oils are not recommended in automotive rotary engines.
Semi Synthetic Crude Oil o Crude oil, or petroleum, is the base of both semi-synthetic and other mineral oils. Crude oil is combined with synthetic oil to make a semi-synthetic oil. Cost o Semi-synthetic motor oil is lower in price than pure synthetic oil, but is more expensive than crude oil. Advantages o Semi-synthetic oil offers some of the same advantages as pure synthetic oil . These include improved oil viscosity at hot and cool temperatures, less loss of product due to evaporation, and extending the life of the car motor. Origins o The first semi-synthetic motor oil was launched in 1966 by the MOTUL corporation. This was followed the the introduction of fully synthetic motor oil in 1971.
