Targeted Messages CUSTOMIZE YOUR SPEECH WHEN COMMUNICATING WITH DIFFERENT TARGETS ! WHEN IT COMES TO TARGETING YOUR RECRUITMENT, IT’S ALL ABOUT COMMON SENSE. SIMPLY ASK YOURSELF: WHO IS MY AUDIENCE AND HOW DO THE INTERESTS OF MY AUDIENCE COINCIDE WITH WHAT AIESEC HAS TO OFFER AND ADAPT YOUR SELLING SPEECH Graduates and Masters These people will not be as interested in the long-term professional and short-term development that AIESEC offers, but rather more concrete, immediate opportunities such as internships and possibilities to get in contact with the professional world through AIESEC (networking).
First year students They are entering in the university they don’t have yet a clear picture of what they want to take from university and also what university will demand from them, therefore the first semester is for most of them a time to adapt to university. During the first semester recruitment, to recruit first year students is important to create a balance between AIESEC being friendly (supporting their integration in university through the network they create) and AIESEC as a practical complement to their studies.

Technical Students IT students are fascinated about their work, but they constantly search ways to apply their knowledge. Students with these backgrounds are often lacking in soft skills (such as project management, presentation skills, etc.) and would therefore be happy to be part of teams that improve their management skills. These students are often very busy with their studies and have little time for extra-curricular activities.
Social Sciences Students Students in social sciences lack practical training in their classrooms and want to see the world behind text book theories. AIESEC has an edge in being able to provide practical professional development and management skills. Many students in these fields are very interested in international opportunities and are sometimes willing to financially invest to gain the experience they need to make an impact in the field of development in the future

Key things to Have in Mind To set the right expectations and attract the right people a) Know the people you are talking with and make always a personal connection Always ask their name, their studies and year of studies and introduce yourself. Comments like, I look forward to seeing you at the meeting. b) Use your experience and real life examples to explain how AIESEC works c) Don’t try to please everyone Sometimes we try to sell AIESEC in the easiest way possible by finding what we think someone might like and telling them they can get it in AIESEC, even if we are not sure if it may be true (over selling). All things come from good intentions but be very careful that what you say doesn’t set the wrong expectations and set someone up for disappointment. – set the right expectations to attract the kind of people you want. •Communicate the AIESEC Experience – that AIESEC offers a platform that includes exchange, leadership opportunities and the Global Learning Environment •Leverage more on our conferences as a concrete aspect of how we develop leadership and an opportunity our members have access to •What members get out of the AIESEC Experience depends on each one of them, AIESEC is just a platform (this is the activating piece) •Bring out the personal discovery part, which includes mentorship/personal vision and figuring out what you want to do with your life •When talking about alumni – show both famous examples and real local examples, but with emphasis on what they get out of AIESEC (not just what they did)
Setting the right mindset... •“We want people ….” – This is a more active and positive way of recruiting people into AIESEC. It immediately sets the expectation that people need to showcase a certain set of characteristics to be a part of AIESEC. “We want people who have a desire for leadership and global experiences relevant to today’s society.” – This sends the right message of they type of people that can capitalize on the opportunities AIESEC has to offer. “AIESEC has a unique learning environment in which you will be able to apply your leadership abilities on a truly global scale, improve your skills, and challenge your own perspectives about yourself and the world around you. ” – This covers the AIESEC Experience and doesn’t imply anything about being a volunteer organization, but an organization where members have an opportunity to develop and discover their potential. “In AIESEC, you have the opportunity to experience a unique learning environment where there are opportunities to get involved locally AND go on exchange.” – This phrase immediately sets the mindset that the same opportunities exist for all members.
Selling Speech Ideas... •AIESEC provides you with opportunities to take up leadership positions •AIESEC offers you prospects to initiate projects such as (provide example) •You will gain leadership skills through getting first hand experience in organizational management •Through the AIESEC experience, you get to obtain cross culture management experience, by managing a global organization. •Challenge your perceptions and ideas. Challenge yourself professional and expand your horizon and capacity/skills (provide examples of skills). •Instead of having just analytical thinking, why not develop your strategic thinking/planning skills too? •AIESEC provides the link between students and the corporate world. •AIESEC connects you to other cultures through our international internship/working aboard experience. •Get the opportunity to expand/build your personal and professional network. •AIESEC connects you with all our stakeholders: companies, partners, alumni, other countries – connecting people with a common interest. •We are connecting difference mindset, mindset and students from all types of academic background. •AIESEC provides you the opportunity to work in a team with people from diverse cultural background. •Attend conferences with people from diverse culture, nationality, academic background. •Meet all kinds of different mindset/thinking, culture, and approach to life – thus getting to learn new things everyday. •With these diverse interactions, it encourages a wider horizon for you. •Improve/expand your inter-cultural understanding and awareness. •Challenge yourself by moving out of your comfort zone/homogenous environment to a diverse and stimulating one. •Create a diverse network: academic, talents, interest, cultural, country…
