Quran is a treasure that is often neglected. If mankind could assess the value of Quran, they would leave everything and instead concentrate on Quran only. It is because it contains solution to every problem and it is a manual for the mankind. Unfortunately, mankind now operates without a manual, and as a result it started to mal-function ever since.
This Tsunami really struck me hard. I started to recite Quran keeping the tsunami in mind. Quran started to throw hundreds of verses to me which can be related to this incidence. This article attempts to take a journey in the wonderful land of Quran in search for Tsunami lessons:
THE POWER OF ALLAH Quran speaks a lot about the supreme power of Allah, and HIS control of the Universe. Those giant waves are just among the soldiers of Allah. Following are some verses categorized into sub-points that all relate to this heading: #

1
Control of the Universe
No just estimate have they made of Allah, such as is due to Him: on the Day of Judgment the whole of the earth will be but His handful, and the heavens will be rolled up in His right hand: Glory to Him! High is He above the Partners they attribute to Him! [39:67]
[2:255],[35:41]
2
The Power of HIS Angels
He was taught by one Mighty in Power (Angel Gabriel), Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form). While he was in the highest part of the horizon. [53:5-7]
[66:6], [35:1], [21:26-29]
3
HIS Knowledge
With Him are the keys of the Unseen, the treasures that none knoweth but He. He knoweth whatever there is on the earth and in the sea. Not a leaf doth fall but with His knowledge: there is not a grain in the darkness (or depths) of the earth, nor anything fresh or dry (green or withered), but is (inscribed) in a Record clear (to those who can read). [6:59] SOLDIERS OF ALLAH
[31:34],[31:16], [20:7], [41:22]
Allah is the King of the Universe. He possesses all that is on this earth, and all that is in the heaven, and all that is in between, and beyond. HIS soldiers are scattered to act as HIS instructions. HIS soldiers show HIS enemies HIS might and power, and warn them of the final torment. No one knows the nature of HIS soldiers except HIM. Tsunamis are among HIS soldiers. Quran -in many places- shows how ALLAH
punishes those who reject the message of HIS Messengers by one of HIS soldiers:

Flood
But they (the people of Noah) rejected him, and We delivered him, and those with him in the Ark: but We overwhelmed in the Flood those who rejected Our Signs. They were indeed a blind people! [7:64]
[10:90],[34:1517]
2
Power of Wind
[33:9], [69:6] Then, when they (the people of Hud) saw the (Penalty in the shape of) a cloud traversing the sky, coming to meet their valleys, they said, "This cloud will give us rain!" "Nay, it is the (calamity) ye were asking to be hastened! A wind wherein is a Grievous Penalty! "Everything will it destroy by the command of its Lord!" then by the morning they, nothing was to be seen but (the ruins of) their houses! thus do We recompense those given to sin! [46:24-25]
3
Power of Sound
For We sent against them (thamud people of Saleh) a single Mighty Blast, and they became like the dry stubble used by one who pens cattle. [6:59]
[7:78],[39:68]
4
Earthquake
So the earthquake took them (thamud people of Saleh) unawares, and they lay prostrate in their homes in the morning! [7:78]
[99:1],[22:1]
5
Stones
Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the Companions of the Elephant? [2] Did He not make their treacherous plan go astray?[3] And He sent against them flights of Birds, [4] Striking them with stones of baked clay.[5] Then did He make them like an empty field of stalks and straw, (of which the corn) has been eaten up. [105:1-5]
[51:33]
6
Flood, Locusts, Lice, Frogs and blood
So We sent upon them (the people of Pharaoh) the flood and locusts and lice and frogs and blood as distinct signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people. [7:133]
7
Unseen Soldiers (like Angels)
But Allah did pour His calm on the Messenger and on the Believers, and sent down forces which ye saw not: He punished the Unbelievers: thus doth He reward those without Faith. [9:26]
8
Forces of the heavens and earth
[33:9]
It is He Who sent down Tranquility into the hearts [48:7] of the Believers, that they may add Faith to their Faith; for to Allah belong the Forces of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is Full of Knowledge and Wisdom [48:4] WATER AND THE ENERGY IT CARRIES
The Tsunami revealed the great power of water, and the weakness of the son of Adam in front of water. Here are few verses that talks around this topic: #

Verse
1
Flood Waters
But they (the people of Noah) rejected him, and We delivered him, and those with him in the Ark: but We overwhelmed in the Flood those who rejected Our Signs. They were indeed a blind people! [7:64]
2
Waters from broken Dams
But they (Saba') turned away (from Allah), and We sent against them the flood (released) from the Dams, and We converted their two garden (rows) into "gardens" producing bitter fruit, and tamarisks, and some few (stunted) Lote-trees. That was the Requital We gave them because they ungratefully rejected Faith: and never do We give (such) requital except to such as are ungrateful rejecters.[34:16,17]
3
Drowning in Sea
We took the Children of Israel across the sea: Fir'aun and his hosts followed them in insolence and spite. At length, when overwhelmed with the flood, he said: "I believe that there is no god except Him Whom the Children of Israel believe in: I am of those who submit (to Allah in Islam)." [10:90]
4
Irritating Sea
He it is Who enableth you to traverse through land and sea: so that ye even board ships; they sail with them with a favourable wind, and they rejoice thereat; then comes a stormy wind and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think they are being overwhelmed: they cry unto Allah, sincerely offering (their) duty unto Him, saying, "If Thou dost deliver us from this, we shall truly show our gratitude!" [10:22]
5
Waves like mountains
So the Ark floated with them on the waves (towering) like mountains, and Nuh called out to his son, who had separated himself (from the rest): "O my son! embark with us, and be not with the Unbelievers!". [105:1-5] SINS AS ROOT CAUSE OF DISASTERS I firmly believe that this tsunami is directly related to the sins people are committing day and night. History has lots of examples that confirms this fact. Quran throws so many verses along the same lines. Here are only few:

1
Cities destroyed for wrong doing
And those cities We destroyed them when they wronged, and We made for their destruction an appointed time. [18:59]
2
Ruins after destruction
And how many a city did We destroy while it was committing wrong - so it is [now] fallen into ruin - and [how many] an abandoned well and [how many] a lofty palace.[22:45]
3
Hunger and fear as And punishment
4
Dwellings not been And how inhabited after [way of] destruction
5
Various methods of And destruction
6
Last words of the wrong doers
7
Nearer punishment And before the greater
Allah presents an example: a city which was safe and secure, its provision coming to it in abundance from every location, but it denied the favors of Allah. So Allah made it taste the envelopment of hunger and fear for what they had been doing. [16:112] many a city have We destroyed that was insolent in its living, and those are their dwellings which have not been inhabited after them except briefly. And it is We who were inheritors. [28:58] each We seized for his sin; and among them were those upon whom We sent a storm of stones, and among them were those who were seized by the blast [from the sky], and among them were those whom We caused the earth to swallow, and among them were those whom We drowned. And Allah would not have wronged them, but it was they who were wronging themselves. [29:40] And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people. And when they perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it. "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes- perhaps you will be questioned. They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire]. [21:11-15]
We will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will return [i.e., repent]. [32:21] 'TRINITY': A GREAT SIN Tsunami was on the 'Boxing Day'; where in the night previous the Christian world celebrated the 'Pagan' festival called: Christmas. In this night they greet each other for the birth of Son of God. This is a great sin. Let us hear -some of- what Quran says on this:

1
A thing most monstrous
They say: "(Allah) Most Gracious has begotten a son!" [89] Indeed ye have put forth a thing most monstrous! [90] As if the skies are ready to burst, the earth to split asunder, and the mountains to fall down in utter ruin. [91] That they should invoke a son for (Allah) Most Gracious. [92] For it is not consonant with the majesty of (Allah) Most Gracious that He should beget a son. [19:88-92]
2
A Grievous Penalty
They do blaspheme who say: Allah is one of three in a Trinity: for there is no god except One God. If they desist not from their word (of blasphemy), verily a grievous penalty will befall the blasphemers among them. [5:73]
3
Allah's curse on them
The Jews call 'Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call AlMasih the son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the Unbelievers of old used to say. Allah's curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the Truth! [9:30]
4
A Logical Question
Yet they make the Jinns equals with Allah, though Allah did create the Jinns; and they falsely, having no knowledge, attribute to Him sons and daughters. Praise and glory be to Him! (For He is) above what they attribute to Him! To Him is due the primal origin of the heavens and the earth: how can He have a son when He hath no consort? He created all things, and He hath full knowledge of all things.[6:100,101]
5
A clear sign of the manhood of Jesus
Al-Masih, the son of Maryam, was no more than a Messenger; many were the Messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His Signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth! [5:75] TSUNAMI: A MERCY FOR THE RIGHTEOUS There are many who does not understand how Allah -when wanting to punish the wrong doers- kills thousands of children, old and innocent? This confusion should evade when you know that these disaster is a mercy for the righteous and innocents. When such disasters hit a community which has a mix of people, it is considered a punishment and mercy at the same time. A punishment for the wrong doers and a mercy for the innocent and righteous. Lets read some of the verses in this relation:

1
Blessings, Mercy and Guidance
Be sure We shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere. [156] Who say, when afflicted with calamity: "To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return" [157] They are those on whom (descend) blessings from their Lord, and Mercy, and they are the ones that receive guidance. [2:155-157]
2
Recorded in a Decree
No misfortune can happen on earth or in your souls but is recorded in a decree before We bring it into existence: that is truly easy for Allah: In order that ye may not despair over matters that pass you by, nor exult over favours bestowed upon you. For Allah loveth not any vainglorious boaster, [57:22,23]
3
Key to Divine Guidance
No kind of calamity can occur, except by the leave of Allah: and if anyone believes in Allah, (Allah) guides his heart (aright): for Allah knows all things. [64:11]
4
martyrs
So lose not heart, nor fall into despair: for ye must gain mastery if ye are true in Faith. [140] If a wound hath touched you, be sure a similar wound hath touched the others. Such days (of varying fortunes) we give to men and men by turns: that Allah may know those that believe, and that He may take to Himself from your ranks martyr-witnesses (to Truth). And Allah loveth not those that do wrong. [141] Allah's object also is to purge those that are true in Faith and to deprive of blessing those that resist Faith. [3:139-141]

Prophets saying
Anas asked our Mother `A'isha about earthquakes: Is it a punishment? She replied: A mercy and a blessing and an admonishment for the Believers and an exemplary punishment and wrath and bane on the disbelievers. [A Hadeeth; Ibn Abi al-Dunya narrated it in al-`Uqubat and al-Hakim in the Mustadrak.]
