PNEUMATIC ACTUATORS single-acting cylinder rod returned at rest (SER)
double-acting cylinder non cushioned
doubled-ended piston rod cylinder
single-acting cylinder rod out at rest (SES)
Double-acting cylinder with adjustable pneumatic cushioning
double-acting rotatable cylinder
SOLENOID VALVES, CONTROL VALVES, PILOT VALVES Direction of flow: The arrow “ “ in the square shows the direction of flow of the fluid.
Ports/positions: The function of a valve (3/2, 4/2, 5/3 etc.) is indicated by two figures: - the first shows the number of ports, (NB: pilot ports do not count) - the second shows the number of valve positions.
ex. : 3/2 = : 5/3 =
Normally the pipework is shown connected to the square representing the valve in its non-actuated position.
3 ports - 2 positions 5 ports - 3 positions Connection of supply and exhaust ports:
The symbol for the solenoid or the pressureoperated valve has the same number of squares as the valve has positions. The right-hand square shows the valve in its non-actuated (rest) position , the left-hand square corresponds to a valve in its actuated (work) position . 2 positions 3 positions
- connected to pressure supply
Pilot and return :
The method of valve actuation is indicated by symbols added to the squares. The pilot control is shown on the left-hand sideand the return on the right-hand side. Exemple: pilot/control direct solenoid valve
return
spring
Internal or external pressure supply internal external
- exhaust wich can be piped
- exhaust wich cannot be piped
Function: - NC = normally closed (rest position) - NO = normally open (rest position) - U = universal (pressure supply to any one of the ports)

- Ports numbers comply with standard ISO 5599 as follows . Main ports:
In solenoid valves 3/2 NO, pressure is usually in port 3, exhaust in port 1. . A functional symbol of two figures describes pilot ports (12 - 14 or 10). It indicates which ports are activated by signal: - signal 12: activates ports 1 and 2 - signal 14: activates ports 1 and 4 - signal 10: deactivates ports 1 and 2 (2/2 and 3/2 valves) All leaflets are available on: www.asconumatics.eu
