Last weekend, I went to a wildlife park with my granny and grandad. It was amazing! In the middle of the park, we saw some wild animals. We saw a rhino and a cheetah. We watched the cheetah run. It’s the fastest animal on land. It’s much faster than the rhino. In the wild, rhinos and cheetahs can be found in Africa. It’s hot in Africa. It’s much hotter than England. There were animals from England in the park, too. My favourite animal is the river otter. They are much smaller than cheetahs and rhinos, and they can’t usually be seen in the day. Otters like to swim in rivers in the evening, when it is a little darker. Grandad sat next to me by the river and we watched. We watched the river for forty-five minutes and then … yes! We saw an otter! Wow! It had a small head and very small ears and it was swimming very near to us. River otters aren’t very big. They are between forty to ninety centimetres. And they are nighttime animals. But on sunny days, they often like to sit on rocks in the river or next to the river. What a great day! 1 The biggest animals were in the middle of the wildlife park. 2 Cheetahs are the fastest animals on land. 3 England is colder than Africa. 4 Otters are bigger than cheetahs and rhinos. 5 Otters like to swim during the day. 6 Otters like sunny days.

Fiona’s story Have you ever seen a really scary film? I have. It was a Friday evening. I went to the cinema with some friends. We went to see a thriller. I didn’t want to go because I don’t like scary films, but my friends wanted to go. The first 30 minutes were OK. Then it started to get really scary. I couldn’t watch. I hid my face behind my hands. Have you ever done that? I was really scared. I could hear the music. It was really loud. Then it went quiet, really quiet. I looked through my fingers at my friends. They were sitting on their chairs. Then there was a really loud noise and everyone screamed. I got up and ran out of the cinema. I had to go. I phoned my dad. I’ve never been so happy to go home! 1 Fiona went to the cinema by herself. 2 The film was a comedy. 3 Fiona didn’t put her hands over her face for the first half an hour. 4 The music got louder and then got quieter. 5 Some of Fiona’s friends weren’t sitting on their chairs. 6 Fiona left the cinema and called her dad.

Then I’ll look at the fossils. There are lots of fossils of sea animals and plants in the museum. I’ve never seen a fossil! After the fossils, I may go to see the pirate treasure. The treasure was found near our town last year. It was under the sea for three hundred years. Last month, they put it in the museum. I might take my camera. Then, if I’ve got time, I’ll go to the theatre. There’s a model of an old, Italian theatre in the museum. The original is over two thousand years old! It’ll be an amazing day!

Hi. I’m Jake. I’m helping my family to protect the environment. I’ve got a timetable with jobs for everyone in my family. Every week, we’re going to do different jobs and help each other. T he first job I’m going to do is to collect the rubbish. I’m going to collect rubbish in my bedroom and in the house and I’m going to help collect rubbish in the park. Mum’s first job is to help save trees. She’s going to recycle paper. Every day she uses a lot of paper and now she’s going to stop. Dad’s going to reduce pollution. He always goes to work by car because it’s q uicker and easier, but now he’s going to get the train. My brother, Freddie is going to go round the house and turn off all the lights. He’s going to conserve energy and my little sister, Patsy is going to reuse plastic bags. She’s going to put the plastic bags in the car when Mum goes shopping. What are you going to do to help? 1 Jake is going to do different jobs to help the environment. 2 Jake’s going to tidy the bedrooms. 3 Mum always recycles paper. 4 Dad is going to use public transport to go to work. 5 Freddie is going to turn off the lights. 6 Patsy is going to buy plastic bags.
