1. This model is best wetfolded of folded with tissue foil of at least 25cm square, for an 8cm model. A thinner and larger sheet will allow you to fold the antlers more proportionately .
2.
3. Begin with the white side facing you. Fold diagonally in half in both directions, one at a time, crease firmly, and unfold.
Fold the lower diagonal edges to the crease line in the centre, crease well, and unfold.
4.
6. Turn paper over. 5.

... then repeat Steps 22 and 23 on the right side.
Using existing crease lines on the front and back, swivel the top layer as illustrated ...
25.
Fold the diagonal edges at the top half of the model to the vertical edges in the middle, crease firmly, and unfold. That done, fold up the triangular portion at the bottom.
Encuentro Origami Bogotá 2013 26.
Now fold and unfold the lower diagonal edges to the vertical edges in the centre.
29.
27.
Fold and unfold on the left as shown, creasing well ...
30.
28.
... then bring the corner on the left down to corner on the lower half of the paper.
31.
Reverse fold the first two tabs on each side ... Draw the edge of the paper in the middle to the left, while bringing the tip down.
The model should now look like this. Repeat Steps 26 to 29 on the right.
34.
32.
... followed by the next two.
33.
Fold one layer up ...
... then pull the uppermost piece on the left all the way to the top ...
81
35.
... push out the folds from the inside ... 38.
36.
... pinch the layers together as shown, pushing in on the left at the same time ...
39.
Valley fold as illustrated, bringing the lower corner on the left to the middle ...
... then draw the midpoint of the diagonal edge on the right to the left ...
42.
37.
... until this piece is completely flattened. Repeat Steps 34 to 36 on the right.
40.
... like this. Fold and unfold the resulting triangular tab, creasing neatly.
43.
41.
82
Hold the lower corner of the triangular tab firmly in the middle while drawing the folds on the left to the right as illustrated ...
Fold one leaf to the left ...
... and crease firmly. Next, swivel the second leaf to the left and repeat Steps 41 and 42 on the right half of the assembly.
Encuentro Origami Bogotá 2013 45.
44.
... then open out again along the vertical edges in the centre.
46.
Open out to the position before the start of Step 38 ...
Push out to unfold the horizontal layers in the middle, then fold the model in half from the left.
47.
48.
Separate the front from the back layers and sink fold at the top, then continue to collapse the paper as shown ...
49.
Collapse the layer in front with a rabbit's ear fold to the triangular portion in the middle. Repeat on the second layer at the back,
50.
51.
... like this. Now separate the two layers and squash fold.
Swivel one leaf to the left ... ... then fold and unfold precisely as shown, creasing firmly.
83
53.
52.
Open out the layers from the centre temporarily and sink fold along crease lines made in Step 51.
55.
54.
Fold the lower half of the first layer upwards like so ...
Reverse fold the underlying layers as illustrated. Crease firmly.
... then valley fold down, exactly along the diagonal edge underneath.
56.
Unfold to the position before the start of Step 54
57
58.
59.
Reverse fold along the resulting crease lines,
Reverse fold once more.
84
Swivel the triangular leaf to the right and repeat from Step 51 on the left side of the model.
Encuentro Origami Bogotá 2013 60.
Grasp the piece in the centre and pull gently downwards as far as you can go ...
61. ... like this ...
62.
63.
... until the layers at the back are completely opened out. Rabbit's ear fold each of the resulting upright points in the middle ...
64.
65.
... to flatten the model completely as shown. Turn model over.
Fold the lower diagonal edges to the centre, crease well, and unfold. Crimp fold each side precisely as illustrated, then fold the model vertically in half.
85
66.
The lizard begins to take shape. Pull the base of the forelegs, if necessary, free from the crimped folds in Step 65. Valley fold each of the legs downwards as illustrated, pulling the paper from behind to form little 'V's.
67.
Next, mountain fold along the crease lines made in Step 64 to hide the excess paper within the body. Reverse fold the forelegs, and valley fold the hind legs. 68.
Perform tiny crimp folds at the base of each foreleg, then reverse fold the tail.
69.
Valley fold along the length of the tail to narrow, while tucking the excess paper at its base within the body with mountain folds on each side.
70. Fold and unfold the tip of the hind legs, creasing well. Reverse fold the tip of the forelegs and bring the tail down with a reverse fold along its length. 71.
Do an outside reverse fold on each of the tips of the hind legs along the crease lines made in Step 70. Reverse fold the tips of the forelegs and the tail, while ensuring that the tips of all four legs and the lowest section of the tail are level.
86
Encuentro Origami Bogotá 2013
72.
73.
We shall now work on the head. First do an outside reverse fold ...
74.
... then lift the layer beneath the head, while simultaneously reverse folding the two pieces on each side to flatten and open out ... 75.
... like this. Reverse fold the white layer underneath on both sides along the crease lines made in Step 55. Open out temporarily to free entangled layers if necessary.
A pair of sharp pointed tweezers will be useful a this stage. Gather the four innermost layers on each side at the base of the head and crimpfold as illustrated ...
76. 77.
... then reverse fold the lower jaw to open the mouth. Reverse and mountain fold both sides if the back to hide the excess paper.
Tuck each of the points at the back of the head firmly between the layers at their bases, as far down as possible. Next, use a pair of fine pointed tweezers to shape the eyes as illustrated.
87
78. 79.
The lizard's head, viewed from the front. Draw the pleated layers below the lower jaw at right angles to the rest of the frill, then mountain fold the bottom edges of the frill as shown.
Mountain fold more of the the excess paper on the back within the body, before gently shaping the head by flattening the frills against the body as much as possible and curling the jaws into position.
81.
80.
... and this ... Pleat the frill with a series of mountain and valley folds like this ...
82.
83.
... until you get this!
Round off the neck and body ...
... and the frilled lizard is done!
88
You can also vary the posture of the frilled lizard to you liking!

66.
65.
Shape all six legs with two crimps each (first down, then back up to form the feet). Pinch the antennae in half while swinging them forward. Narrow the neck with more mountain folds, then pinch it in half (keep the antennae up and toward the sides while pinching the neck in half).
Pull out paper from the first segment of each foreleg to create bulges. Pinch the antennae in half again (the surface is perpendicular to the diagram, so these folds are not shown). Make a small pleat in the top layers to separate the abdomen and thorax.
67.

1.
2.
Fold and unfold diagonally in both directions, ...
... then fold and unfold vertically and horizontally. 4.
3.
Now fold and unfold between the dotted landmarks. Crease where the lines intersect only.
5.
6.
Fold and unfold between the dotted landmarks again, and crease where the lines intersect. Turn the paper over.
150
Fold the top left corner to the dotted landmark. Crease only where the new line intersects the top edge of the paper.
Fold the top right corner through the dotted intersecting crease lines.

7.
8.
Now valley fold the top layer along the crease line of the layer underneath.
Turn the paper over.
9.
10.
6-7
Unfold to the position shown in Figure 11.
Valley fold, then use the layers underneath as guides to repeat Steps 6 and 7. 11.
13.
12.
Fold and unfold as illustrated, then turn the paper over
Fold and unfold again twice more.
Fold and unfold at the top, and separate the two layers at the bottom by squash folding at each side.
151
14. 15.
16.
Valley fold at the top, and petal fold and unfold below.
17 Open up the layers at the top as illustrated, and squash fold at the bottom.
Valley fold each of the corners of the triangle layer to the top, then fold and unfold below as illustrated.
18.
19.
Valley fold the bottom corner to the dotted reference point, crease firmly, and unfold.
20.
Collapse as indicated.
Now open up the layers at the bottom and restore the paper to the position at the start of Step 16. Petal fold. 21. 22.
23.
Valley fold to the left, ...
Fold and unfold, ...
152
... then fold and unfold again, as illustrated.

27.
26.
Using the crease line made Step 23, fold one lay to the right as illustrated, ...
Fold and unfold again.
28.
29.
30.
21 - 27
... like this. Continue as shown. Repeat Steps 21 to 27 on the left side.
31.
Turn the paper over.
32.
Draw the horizontal edges towards the middle and valley fold vertically in half, then unfold.
33.
... then vertically in half as illustrated, Bringing the lower portion of the paper up an angle, ...
34. Valley fold horizontally, ...
Fold anf unfold yet again.
34
Valley the corner. Repeat on the other side.
35.
... like this. Closed sink the flaps on the left individually along the crease lines made in Step 29.
35
Valley fold to the right. Repeat on the other side.
36.
36
Fold one layer down. Repeat on the other side again.
153
37.
37
38.
39.
Swivel the head and ears with valley folds on both sides on the neck. The relative positions of the head and ears can be varied in this way. 41.
Crimp fold,...
42.
41
Sink the sides of the head and the snout.
40.
... then draw out the hidden layer from within the head
Crimp fold on both sides.
43.
42
Mountain fold both sides of the head, and valley fold both sides of the snout.
44.
40
Sink the corner at the throat and mountain fold the excess paper at tha snout within the head.
45. 45
Swivel as illustrated.
46.
The underlying layers can be bit of a bother. First reverse fold the innermost layer between each hind leg and the body as illustrated.
47. 46
154
Next, mountain fold the next layer to get it out of the way.
Reverse fold the corner on the right, and valley fold to bring the left foreleg forward a little.

49. 47 - 48
48
Repeat Steps 47 to 48 on the right foreleg, varying the position as desired. Steps 50 onwards depict the right foreleg in an outreached position. Unfold the corner from within the body.
Fold and unfold as illustrated. Repeat on the other side. Draw out the hidden layer between the body and the foreleg.
51. 50. 50
Double inside reverse fold the hind leg and outside reverse fold the base of the tail piece.
Collapse as illustrated on both sides along existing crease lines. 52.
52a
53.
53
51 - 52 52b
Mountain the excess edges on both sides of the hindleg under. Repeat Steps 51 and 52 on the other hind leg. Figures 52a and 52b shows an enlarged view of the tail folds.
Crimp one side of the right foreleg to form a little paw. Separate the front layers of the ears and give the body some 3D shaping and you are done.
