INTRUDUCCION El proyecto “La Zanja” abarca dos Microcuenca principales, de la quebrada El Cedro y del río Pisit. La
Microcuenca de la quebrada El Cedro drena hacia el norte e incluye las quebradas Bancuyoc, La Cuchilla, La Pabla, La Mina, Bramadero, Cocán y Hornamo, asimismo, el micro cuenca del río Pisit también drena hacia el norte e incluye las quebradas San Lorenzo, Del Panteón y Vizcachas. La quebrada El Cedro recibe posteriormente el nombre de río Pulán, el cual se une con el río Pisit para constituir el río Cañad, tributario del río Chancay. El río Chancay aporta sus aguas al río Reque y éste vierte finalmente sus aguas en el océano Pacífico.
INFORMACIÓN GENERAL Minera La Zanja SRL está conformada por: Cia. De Minas Buenaventura (53.06%) y Newmont (46.94%). Las exploraciones se iniciaron en 1991. Actualmente se cuenta con dos yacimientos de oro: San Pedro Sur (400 K Oz.Au) y Pampa Verde (309K Oz.Au). La producción promedio anual será de 100,000 Oz.Au y 450,000 Oz.Ag a partir del año 2011. El inicio de la construcción del proyecto fue autorizado 14 de Junio del 2009. A la fecha se han invertido US$ 65 millones en la construcción. c onstrucción. El 5 de Agosto del 2010 se otorgó la Resolución de Funcionamiento de la Concesión de Beneficio. El 7 de Setiembre del 2010, se refinó la primera barra de doré. Este año se espera producir 36,000 Oz. Au y 35,000 Oz. Ag.

SECTOR LA ZANJA La Zanja es un sistema volcánico muy grande con intensa alteración ácido sulfato, el cual se encuentra distribuido alrededor de un anillo que tiene una depresión topográfica semicircular de aproximadamente 6 x 4.5 Km. La historia volcánica de la Zanja es compleja y de varios eventos envolviendo rocas de varias composiciones desde andesita a riolita. La depresión es interpretada como una pequeña caldera, llamada caldera San Pedro. Una secuencia de flujos de ceniza fue reconocida como parte de las facies intracaldera de aproximadamente 19 x 24 Km que definen de una manera no muy clara la Caldera La Zanja. (Turner, 1999) En el área La Zanja este volcanismo andesítico es demostrablemente más joven que los eventos que formaron la caldera y cubre parte del margen de la caldera. Sabemos que la mineralización en la l a Zanja está contenida en e n un corredor estructural de tendencia WNW que interfecta el margen sur de la Caldera San Pedro.
GEOLOGÍA DEL YACIMIENTO La Unidad Minera La Zanja se ubica dentro de la faja volcánica Cretácea - de los Andes del Norte del Perú. La Mineralización de San Pedro Sur y Pampa Verde son de origen epitermal de tipo ácido sulfato caracterizado por un núcleo silicificado con intenso fracturamiento y brechamiento de tipo tectónico. La mineralización de oro se presenta en cristales submicroscópicos asociados a limonitas, goetitas, jarositas y hematitas que constituyen la zona de óxidos.

VOLCANICO LLAMA El Volcánico Llama está formado por una secuencia gruesa de volcánicos que afloran ampliamente en toda la parte occidental de la región, desaparece hacia el este y no tiene afloramientos importantes en los cuadrángulos de Cutervo y Celendín. Toma el nombre del pueblo de Llama (c. de Chongoyape). Comienza con un conglomerado basal rojizo intercalado con capas de toba andesítica de color morado o violáceo. Los fragmentos del conglomerado son guijarros bien redondeados de cuarcita con proporciones menores de caliza caliza y roca volcánica. Consiste mayormente de andesitas, también contiene proporciones significantes de volcánicos ácidos dacitas y riodacitas.

ALTERACIÓN ARGÍLICA Y MENOR EXTESIÓN DE VENILLAS Dentro de los flujos sobreyacentes sugieren que estas rocas rocas andesíticas se emplazaron por por erupción durante el decaimiento de los estadios del sistema hidrotermal. Esto es un escenario muy similar al volcánico Regalado en el distrito de Yanacocha y se está intentando correlacionar estas secuencias volcánicas. Ambos están compuestos dominantemente de flujos de lavas andesíticas horbléndicas con brechas y tufos subordinados, subordinados, asociados con el decaimiento del del sistema hidrotermal. La edad Plateau de una alunita al unita hipógena (simple SPS-340-AL) (Ver fig. 2) desde la zona de San Pedro Sur es de aproximadamente 15.61 +- incorporando 61.2% del 39Ar liberado. Un pequeño centro volcánico al noreste en el distrito de Maqui en el distrito de Yanacocha obtuvo mediante una edad isocrónica 39Ar/40Ar de 15.62 +- 0.06 Ma. Reportada por Turner (1997), probablemente vienen del mismo pulso magmático que produjo la mineralización en la Zanja. A la inversa una edad de gas total de 11.91 +- 0.06 Ma. En biotita desde un domo volcánico inalterado (simple LZD-3-BIO) en la parte oeste del distrito de la Zanja demuestran que la actividad ígnea alrededor de la misma edad es responsable para la mineralización en Yanacocha está presente en la parte oeste más lejana de La Zanja. (Gustafson et al., 2004).
MINERALIZACIÓN La mineralización primaria del yacimiento está constituida por enargita, pirita aurífera y electrum, que son observados en la zona de sulfuros. Epítema de oro en óxidos relacionados a márgenes domos en depósitos de san Pedro y Pampa Verde. Se tiene reconocidos varios sistemas de vetas de baja e intermedia sulfuarción en la periferia también

y domos riodacíticos-riolíticos. La caldera es finalmente rellenada por depósitos volcanoclásticos intracaldera y de avalancha. Tres centros volcánicos de edad Mioceno: La Zanja, Hueco Grande y San Miguel. También afloran piroclásticos y volcanoclásticos del Terciario inferior y sedimentos clásticos carbonatados del Cretáceo (Grupo Goyllarisquizga). La geometría del yacimiento yaci miento es tabular por el fuerte control estructural. La alteración que predomina es la silicificación (cuarzo, calcedonia, ópalo) además, alteración argílica avanzada (alunita, natroalunita, dickita, pirofilita, caolinita) argílica (caolinita, esmectita, illita) propilítica (epídota, cloritas) y alteración sericítica que acompaña a los ensambles descritos. Las alteraciones ocurren reemplazando los niveles de piroclásticos más permeables y reactivos, es menos intensa en domos, lavas y pórfidos. Como relleno de estructuras de rumbo NO-SE y radiales NO. Los minerales de mena que presentan son enargita, pirita, bornita, cinabrio, calcopirita, covelita, galena, escalerita y entre los óxidos: limonitas (goethita), hematina; y baritina como mineral de ganga. Otros: azufre nativo, turmalina. En la Zanja se estima en reservas 563 mil onzas de oro y 3.8 millones de onzas de Ag (Probables). Las edades geológicas de mineralización están en 15.61 con un error ±0.12 con el método 40Ar / 39Ar; mineral alunita; y el estudio realizado por Donald Nobel et al.
