6or/orate Social Res/onsi7ility (6SR is a com/anies8 res/onsi7ility to the society in 9hich it o/erates. This means considering all stakeholders (internal: connected and e;ternal as /art o# the decision making /rocess ) not !ust the 8key /layers8. 6SR /olicies co1er issues like as en1ironmental /olicy and sustaina7ility: health and sa#ety: treatment o# sta##: charita7le 9ork and contri7ution and su//orting local communities. Bene#its to 7usiness o# good 6SR are 7rand di##erentiation: a1oiding regulation and 7uilding re/utation in and outside the country.
Though 6SR is a relati1ely ne9 conce/t in Bangladeshi cor/orate culture: a9areness o# cor/orate social re/orting has ra/idly increased. All com/anies need to consider their 6SR #or t9o 7asic reasons. Firstly: there is intensi#ying /ressure #rom stakeholders to do so. Any com/any that does not de1elo/ and /romote its 6SR /olicy to all stakeholders 9ill #ace increasing threats to its re/utation. Secondly: 7ecause it makes sound 7usiness sense: 6SR enhances the re/utation o# an organi>ation: 7rings in ne9 7usiness and im/ro1es stakeholder return. The Bangladesh ?o1t. has not im/osed or /ro/osed re=uirements #or disclosure o# social and en1ironmental /er#ormance. The Bangladesh 6om/anies Act '33 sets the general #rame9ork #or cor/orate #inancial re/orting. @o9e1er: no /ro1isions regarding 6SR e;ist in the 6om/anies Act '33. @o9e1er some /rogressi1e com/anies disclosed some in#ormation on community: en1ironmental and consumer related acti1ities.

Many researchers ha1e sho9n the /ositi1e relationshi/ 7et9een 6SR and Financial Per#ormance (FP. But there is #e9 researches ha1e 7een conducted in Bangladesh on this to/ic. This research aims to e;/lore relationshi/ 7et9een 6SR and FP 7y measuring FP through et Pro#it: et Pro#it Margin: Total Assets: RE and RA. As the Multinational com/anies are the /ioneers in 7ringing and /racticing 6SR in Bangladesh: in this research #i1e M6s #inancial in#ormation has 7een used to measure FP o# those M6s that has 7een im/acted 7y their 6SR acti1ities. These M6s are British American To7acco: Marico: ?SG: RB and Berger. All o# these com/anies are listed in %haka Stock E;change.
+. ,ethodolo"y of the Study The design o# this research has 7een descri7ed 7y the eight descri/tors o# research design. As no sur1eyHinter1ie9 has 7een conducted #or this research and as this research has 7een done 7ased on historical data so #e9 descri/tors o# research design ha1e 7een eliminated. This research is a Formal Study 7ecause it tries to ans9er #e9 research =uestions and hy/otheses that ha1e 7een /ro/osed. This research is an E;)Post #acto research as the researcher o# this research only re/orts 9hats ha//ening or 9hat has ha//ened and the researcher has no control o1er 1aria7les. This is a causal study 7ecause it tries to #ind out relationshi/s among de/endent and inde/endent 1aria7les. As this research carries out once and re/resents a sna/shot at a s/eci#ic /oint in time: this can 7e considered as cross) sectional study.
-. Scope of the Study 6or/orate communication 9ould /lay an im/ortant role in the de1elo/ment o# 6S. Although the cor/orate communication and cor/orate social res/onsi7ility as t9o se/a ra te #i el ds : these #ields 9ill largely o1erla/ and contri7ute to each other. This is due to the small market si>e o# a country. $n cor/orate communication and communications in general there is no strong di##erentiation o# /roducts and s/eciali>ation. There#ore cor/orate communication may take an im/ortant /osition in contri7uting to the 6SR #ield.

. /imitations of the Study There are some limitations o# this research. The research is conducted #ully 7ased on historical data and only data o# #i1e M6s o# #i1e years. The result 9ould 7e more accurate i# much data 9as used. The research sam/le includes only #i1e %SE listed M6s #inancial data #or #i1e years. Bigger the si>e o# the sam/le 7etter the result is. $# the sam/le si>e included 7oth M6s and local com/anies #inancial data then the result 9ould ha1e 7een more acce/ta7le and considera7le.
