LESSON PLAN IN GENERAL MATHEMATICS GRADE: 11 TIME FRAME: 90 mins
I.OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson: 1. The learner's demonstrate an understanding of the key concepts of functions 2. The learner is able to represent real life situations II. SUBJECT MATTER: Topic: FUNCTIONS Subtopic: FUNCTIONS AS MODEL Code: M11GM-Ia-1 & M11GM-Ia-4 Teacher’s Reference: Teaching Guide for Senior High School General Mathematics pp.1-11 Materials: INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS, CHALKBOARD III. PROCEDURE: A. Preliminaries 1 .Prayer 2. Checking of Attendance B. Development of the Lesson 1. Motivation Have students come up to the front of the class. Choose males and females to pair up. Have one male choose to be with two females and watch the reaction of the class.
By using students, you are modeling ordered pairs. To find out if the ordered pairs are a function, you must link a male to a female. If the male is "cheating" on his woman...this situation is not functioning properly in this relationship. Hence the pair cannot function. Not a function. 2. Review The teacher will review on the Functions from Junior High School relations and fuctions C. Presentation of the lesson 1. The teacher will mention that we will represent mathematical relations as machines with an input and an output, and that the output is related to the output by some rule. 2. The teacher will present Functions and relations as a table of values and let the students identify which of the following sets are functions and relations. 3. Functions as a graph in the Cartesian plane a. present some graphs and let the students identify if it is a graph of a function using vertical line test 4. The teacher will give some examples of Functions as a representations representations of reallife situations 5. Give some worded problems Then let the Students present it using a piecewise functions. D. Generalization Generalization 1. The teacher will Provide a real-world example or scenario that can be expressed as a relation that is not a function.
2. The teacher will Provide a real-world example or scenario that can be modelled by a linear function. IV. EVALUATION: Answer the ff. questions: 1. The cost of hiring a catering service to serve food for the party is 150 per head for 20 persons or less
