In addition to getting young people off the street and into an educational institution, the programme also helps them by using the game as a moti"ating force for learning ordinary subects li2e mathematics and geography. 'urthermore, 'urthermore, chess teaches many scholastic and life s2ills3 the ability to thin2 logically, 2eep an open mind, plan ahead, establish goals and learn from pre"ious mista2es. It also de"elops players4 discipline, discipline, concentration and team spirit. And finally, of course, it is an interesting game.

The B()C' recei"es support and encouragement from international grandmasters, including 5ennifer 6hahade, twice the 76 women4s chess champion, 8aurice Ashley, another 76 champion who was born in 5amaica, and 6onia 9epeda, an international master from El 6al"ador. It also regularly holds free chess competitions and celebrations designed to entertain the whole family.
