APRESENTAÇÃO  A idéia de montar um u m guia bibliográfico sobre J.K. Rowling e sua obra surgiu enquanto eu fazia uma pesquisa para meu Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso sobre as três principais obras de J.R.R Tolkien. Após procurar em bibliotecas e livrarias virtuais, percebi que não existem muitos livros, artigos e trabalhos acadêmicos em português sobre Tolkien ou estudando suas obras. A pesquisa por referências bibliográficas acontecia na mesma medida em que a escrita do meu trabalho evoluía. Muitos dos trabalhos sobre Tolkien faziam referências a J.K. Rowling. Eu anotava as referências que encontrava, em inglês e português, mesmo quando não as utilizava; quando percebi a quantidade de referências que já havia conseguido, comecei a esboçar o guia. Com a ajuda do editor de imagens do site Polyvore, comecei a montar as primeiras ilustrações planejadas para a capa. Espero que este guia bibliográfico sobre J.K. Rowling e sua obra possa auxiliar as futuras pesquisas sobre a grande escritora.

INTRODUÇÃO Joanne Rowling nasceu em 1965, em Yate, Gloucestershire, Filha de Peter John Rowling e Anne Volant, desde pequena Joanne tomou gosto pela leitura. Em 1971, a pequena Joanne escreve seu primeiro livro: Rabbit , a história de um coelho chamado Rabbit. Também foi nessa época que Joanne se matriculou em sua primeira escola, a St. Michael's Church of England. Mais tarde, Joanne e sua irmã Dianne freqüentaram a escola secundária Wyedean, onde Anne trabalhava no departamento de Química. Esse período deixou fortes lembranças: foi nessa época que sua mãe foi diagnosticada com esclerose múltipla. Quanto ao curso na faculdade, Joanne queria fazer Inglês, mas seus pais não aprovaram. Ela acabou no curso de Francês e teve problemas, mas conseguiu se adaptar. Fez amigos, adotou um visual mais chamativo e se tornou popular  entre o sexo oposto. Em 1987, ela se formou na Universidade de Exeter. Fez alguns trabalhos temporários, como secretária bilíngüe e trabalhou na Anistia Internacional. Quando seu namorado foi morar em Manchester, ela procurou um apartamento para morar perto dele, mas foi uma escolha errada. Voltando para Londres de trem, as primeiras sementes do que viria a ser a história de Harry Potter começaram a tomar forma em sua mente. No fim de 1990, ela consegue se instalar em Manchester e Harry Potter começa a ganhar vida. No entanto, a autora sofre um baque com a perda da mãe, que lutava há dez anos com esclerose múltipla. Rowling se muda de Manchester para a cidade do Porto, onde se casa e tem uma filha. Abandonando uma relação que  já não lhe fazia bem, ela se muda para a casa da irmã. Foi nessa época que os primeiros rascunhos de Harry Potter foram escritos em um café enquanto sua filha dormia.  Ao mesmo tempo em que trabalhava como secretária, Joanne saiu em busca de um editor para seu livro. Quando Harry Potter e a pedra filosofal  estava para ser publicado, Joanne adotou o nome de sua avó Kathleen como nome do meio. O sucesso de publicação da série de sete livros a transformou na escritora mais rica e bem sucedida de todos os tempos.
