Duration:
1hour
Lesson Topic:
Networking
Sub-Topic:
Bus Topology
Specific Objectives: After viewing a video entitled „Bus Topology‟, Topolog y‟, students should be able to:
i) ii) iii)
Define the term Bus Topology. Identify at least two components of the bus network topology. Explain the process that takes place in the network.
After viewing a power point presentation entitled „Advantages and Disadvantages of Bus Topology‟, students Topology‟, students should be able to: i) State at least two advantages of the network. ii) State at least two dis-advantages of the network.
Content Summary: The bus topology is the simplest simplest and most common. It is often used when a
network installation is small, simple, or temporary. It is a Passive topology. This means that computers on the bus only listen for data being sent, they are not responsible for moving th e data from one computer to the next. nex t. In an active topology network, the computers regenerate signals and are responsible for moving the data through the network. On a bus bu s network, all the computer are connected to a single cable. When one computer sends a signal using the cable, all the computers on the network receive the information, but only one (Addressee) accepts it. The rest disregard the message. The network is small and will not be frequently reconfigured. to pology, networks, troubleshoot, termination, Key Vocabulary: Bus topology, network, Bus, topology, maintenance, device, communication, medium.
