Futures First Aditya Kumar ppt in October was followed by a 25 minutes test. (25 aptitude questions+25 mathematical calculation questions). Individual cutoffs in both sections. You need to be really fast in order to crack the test. I had solved around 20 in each section. I was shortlisted along with around 80 others. Shortlist was out in November & we were expected to play Trade Mogul for 2 weeks in the midst of our end terms. I just played for 4 days. Not sure about others. But that didn’t really matter in the end. Interview was the most stressed interview out of 12-13 I attended.(The beginning was: “Aditya Ji, ye grades ki toh laga rakhi hai aapne”, though I am having a 7+ cg. I heard that they asked similar question from a guy having 8+ cg too.) They even ask reasons for our personal likes and dislikes, smallest decisions, family background etc. Didn’t ask a single aptitude/numerical questions in 1st round, it was complete HR(other panels were asking some though).
Synopsys Vineet Singla - cleared 1st round - written test Lot of questions related to apti and computer architecture but not very complicated, just basic ones mostly…. and a simple code.. In my case, it was to write a int power(int, int) function in O(nlogn) time. Basic knowledge of recursion is enough. After this test, comes interviews. They don’t expect you to have high programming skills or anything as such. One of the persons who got selected in 2009 didnt even knew c++ at all. But knowledge of basic c++ and computer architecture is required. They concentrated on c rather than c++, so knowing c would be a great plus point. This might be useful in general too. The y focusses a lot in whether you want to go for higher studies or stick to the company. Replying in the favor of company is must. Never ever say anything about higher studies or “CAT”. My first and second interview did not involve lot of technical part as i already had told them I had been focussed on electronics. They did ensure if I am capable of doing their work but asked simple questions on c++, computer architecture. Its good to have a computer architecture project in your resume and they will surely ask about that. They concentrate on your ability and talent a lot more than your present knowledge. Be comfortable and sure about what you are knowing and your interests, the time will just fly by. Two were from roorkee and all were very friendly. The one who went in 2009 - ashutosh, he didn’t take my interview but I heard from others that he was technical and asking c++ codes a lot. So, its good to practice before going for the interview or make sure he doesn’t take yours. The other two were very easy to go with. Go through channeli feedback too.
Goldman Sachs Gaurav Kapatia- Not cleared ● Written test. It was difficult. First nearly 1hr multiple choice question. Few on quant, probability and coding. Next was subjective test. it was also hard. It consist of probability questions and data structure question. ● Shortlist came as per your score in above test. ● If you are shortlisted and your name in at bottom go after nearly 4 to 5 hours for interview. ● Goldman mostly take interview of top guys first and if they got what they wanted then they will just complete formality to take your interview. ● In interview I was asked questions about java first, quite difficult, I answered few. Then he said you are from electronics lets ask you that only. Started asking me about 8085 and gates.
●
Conclusion: If you are low in their priority list, don't waste your time they will never take you serious.
Rajat Srivastava- not selected Written test : 1 objective and 1 subjective test. Difficulty level would be high. Questions would be on probability, graph theory, data structures and c/c++. Interview : This time they took 5 rounds for students who were selected. I had only 1 round. I was asked questions about the projects which i had done and some cross questioning on that. They mostly select candidates who match their desired profile after the first round. Deep Jain - Not Selected Written test : same as above (for probability : be prepared with standard problems like monty hall, gamblers ruin etc, for Algorithms section : be strong in recursion and graph algos like bfs, dfs and their applications) Interview : ● Detailed discussion about projects ● how will you find the no of occurrences of a particular element in a sorted array (fastest solution). ● Subset Sum problem. ● Given a polynomial equation (5th order) find its no of solutions and then solutions.

General concepts of c++ like oops - polymorphism, encapsulation etc - a single line definition was enough, ○ Testing my knowledge of technologies mentioned in resume in depth. ○ How will I design a web app for a specific problem (asked because I mentioned web dev in resume) - Question was to design a system for storing record of voting in colleges - i described a simple MVC framework based solution ○ How will I ensure security of database if I have to store credit card info - i started by comparing it with storing passwords and suggested hashing, but then realised that hashing is irreversible, so even we will not be able to retrieve the info, then i suggested adding an additional layer of security, he also helped with some hints here and there (finally we agreed on a public - private key solution for database) Third round - tech+hr round ○ Explain the working of internet in very simple terms to your mother, ○ Explain how does interaction with database occurs in a web application, how will i ensure that data is not lost when database failure occurs. (answer is to add redundancy, i.e. to store multiple copies of data) ○ Asked meaning of some terms like agile development, scrum etc. ○ When was the last time i worked in a team, what were the challenges and how i tackled them. (i described my internship experience) ○ Give example of a time when I played a leadership role, ○ Finally discussion about resume. Fourth round - typical hr round ○ asked about my weakness, ○ my career aspirations, where do i see myself in 2-5 years, and my desired profile. ○ talked about extracurricular and achievements mentioned in resume.
Cisco Yaswanth Kumar - Do Not Know Round 1: The written test is straight forward aptitude and some questions on C programming. It can be easily cleared. I strongly recommend Let us C book by Yashwant Kanetkar to learn C for written tests. Interview: I have written Data Structures and Algorithms as my key areas of interest. So I was asked questions related to that. I was asked my favourite data structure. I told segment tree and discussion went on for sometime about that. Then I was asked a real life application of segment tree and I did not answer it. Then they asked me about Euler cycle, Hamiltonian path, Graph coloring, shortest path algorithm (djkstra), cut set. I was asked to write a complete code for djkstra (It is very similar to BFS). I was asked about solving Hamiltonian path in a graph. I answered all of them. Then they started asking me about microprocessors, Interrupt Handling etc. They also asked me why I did not take Networking as an elective. I told them that I don’t know all of that. They asked me to code some other simple coding questions like find the mean and variance of n numbers. Then they asked me which area of electronics am I comfortable with, I told them VLSI and MOSFETs. They said that they do not know about them and asked me to explain them about it.
This was the only technical round and then I had a HR round in which they asked very common questions like tell me about yourself, Why only CISCO, What type of environment do you prefer in the company, What are your hobbies. Suggestions: Be very good at your area of interests. If you are not good at something, do not write it in your resume. Do not include projects which you have no idea about.
Rajat Srivastava-Selected Round 1 : Aptitude test and some c/c++ questions Interview: They mainly ask around your area of interest, so you need to be strong in whatever you want to do. Mine was data structures and algorithms so he asked some questions on heaps, some basic c questions (pointers, dynamic memory allocation, etc). Then he gave me one real life engineering problem on memory leaks and asked me to find a solution. Some people have an hr round also after the technical round but i didn't have one. Suggestion : Know your basics well. Most companies look for students who know their basics well and have knowledge of whatever field they have worked and want to work.
Tata Communications Gaurav Kapatia- not cleared ● 1st GD, easy topics. You just need good communication skills to clear it. ● 1st Technical interview: Discussion about your projects, other things written on your resume and very lil bit technical. ● 2nd interview HR- same old HR questions. Strengths/Weakness/why do u want to join. But did biggest blunder, They asked me do I know what company does and I was blank. So next time you go into interview do read about company. Anjali Verma - not cleared ● shortlisting on the basis of GD. ● First interview : discussion about projects few questions on c,c++ , steps to implement a programme. If given a chance , what improvements would you do in your internship project. ● Everything was going quite well . They looked quite impressed. ● They told me that during first year I will be shifted to various offices acrosss India for training only in metropolitan cities. ● I asked ,can that be chennai ? He said may or may not be . I said chennai can be a problem for me .Dont deny for relocations in your interview. ● I was returned back with my resume. Manush Gupta - cleared

1st round was GD. Topics were like 4G , IP/MPLS , Disruptive technologies etc. They were looking for valid points and good communication skills. 1st round was GD. Topics were like 4G , IP/MPLS , Disruptive technologies etc. They were looking for valid points and good communication skills. 1st technical interview: Completely based on what is written in your resume. I had computer networks listed in my areas of interest so he asked questions on the 7 layer OSI model, how DNS works ,some basic protocols of every layer , and some of the fundamental devices and algo’s used in these layers.(i discussed dikstra in routing). There was some cross questioning , but very little compared to other company interviews. Questions on courses taken in the last semester , they were particularly interested in the telecommunication course we did. Pretty much everything was discussed about this course. He asked me a question on SONET but i coudnt reply properly. Also some discussion on the extra curriculars you were involved in , for me it was Music section and Badminton.(extensive questioning on my role in music section and what we do.) 2nd round HR : After the introductions , the first question of importance was , WHY TATA COMMUNICATIONS? Be well prepared with the answer to this , its basically going to decide whether they are going to take you or not. Other questions were standard , and yes know what the company does and where you want to be involved in. One of the other questions everybody was asked was, ‘will you ever go for an MBA ?‘. I said no and gave some reasons. No clue about what others replied. Overall it was the easiest interview experience i had , only contested by the oracle interview.

Snapdeal (Analyst) Gouresh Singhal - Selected 4 rounds in total. I am starting with round and then preparation 1) Rapid Aptitude Test (12 mins - 50 questions)- Basic Grammar/SC/Prob solving/ pattern recognition. I scored 50/50 and thus was given a direct entry to final interviews. Preparation - None recommended, try timed practice of SC and IR of Official GMAT guide for the uninitiated 2) GD - Topics were related to e-commerce industry in India. 3) Case+Puzzles- I got 2 puzzles and a case to solve 4) HR
Aditya Kumar - Shortlisted for GD Gouresh has already discussed all the steps. I will elaborate more on the written test & GD. The test questions were too easy but you need to score 41+ marks in order to clear it. The cutoff was around 35 in IIITs. In test just go smoothly and don’t waste too much time(30+ seconds) on a single question. Well the GD of Snapdeal was worst recruitment process I have seen or heard of in this session. They made 20 shortlisted candidates to sit in a single group & ‘discuss’. Nobody was listening to anyone & it was almost impossible to speak. In the end, the ‘judge’(I am not sure about his qualifications) randomly asked 6-7 people to speak one-by-one. The selected candidates out of 20 were only from those 6-7. So it was more of a random selection rather than a performance based GD. A nightmare for any serious candidate! PS: Got 49/50 marks, still ‘rejected’ in GD.

Target Gaurav Kapatia- Cleared ● First step was written test. It was 1 hour test with very easy question. Simple Data structure was asked and one very easy programing question. Shortlist was out basis of only this test. ● Company came on Day 5 evening slot, so most of coding guys were placed. This made sure I was having a strong chance. ● We had 3 round interview. ● First two were kind of technical plus HR. They tried to see ypur presence of mind, Your communication skill and most importantly what you have written in your resume is that true or not. ● In my first interview we discussed my BTP and he asked few questions on Java and Computer network since I have written it on my resume. ● In 2nd round, also discussion on project. They gave me few variation in project and asked me how I will solve this problem and so on. ● 3rd round was HR. Those were common HR questions. just be confident while answering! ● High Point: In my 1st interview they asked me a problem “I saw a man with 7 wifes blah blah. How many are going to market”, I answered zero. Then he again started “I was going to market, and saw a man..”, I interrupted him and said u didn’t said that in ur initial statement. ● Low Point: I told them that i like reading newspaper and reading about finance world. he asked me what is sensex today, i said 23k and I way away by nearly 5k. So be careful what you speak in interview as that can backfire at anytime.

written test has 5 communication related questions at the begining like how many mobile users are there in India? What is the unit of measurement for traffic? What is the bit rate of PCM? What is the fullform of TDM? these followed by 25 aptitude questions. the whole written test is supposed to be solved in 10minutes. after 20minutes 27-28 students were shortlisted for group discussion. we got the GD topic :”should advertisements be regulated by government?”. 10-15minutes were given to discuss. Make sure that you speak atleast 2-3 times without fighting with each other. and conclude the topic. If the topic is misunderstood and you initiated the discussion, then you’ll lose. After the 4 groups GD, 10 members were shortlisted for final interview. Which was technical + HR combined for 30 minutes roughly. Tell me about yourself? Questions about a project done(which is related communications). Why do choose to work in telecom field? what do you know about telecom? did you take any course on that? how a call is processed using mobile phones? Questions about filters. Do you need a filter near receiver? why? Tell me about your family background? why do you want to get into corporate field? why not higher studies? What challenges did you face during internship? Basically interest towards a company fetches you job when you have clarity of what they do and what related knowledge you have! shorlisting on the basis of 45 minutes technical test including networking , c , c++ , sql and one algo question. 2 technical interviews and one HR. technical interview included a small problem based on object oriented feature of c++ ie inheritance. He asked me how would i implement a car object in c and c++. I answered using inheritance in c++ , i was not sure about c. Difference between private and protected members. Rest was about my intern projects . He asked about the algorithms I used in them. He gave real life problems on big data , datamining , algorithm ,network as those were included in my projects and interests one problem was related to user name disambiguation in social netwroking sites. He was quite impressed with the point that i had participated in the microsoft hackathon contest. Next round was based on probabability. He asked me why my percentages in the 10 th and 12 th class were same.I said it was just a co incidence. He asked me to mathematically define coincidence. I said that if the probabilities of events being equal is same like my marks in both classes then its a coincidence.
In HR round he asked me that wont travelling to blore or hyderabad be a problem for me , being a girl.I straight away said thats quite fine for me and my parents as well. ● Question related to higher study : strictly say no if you want to get the job. ● He gave me around 6 situations that can happen in 2016 , i had to choose just one 1. Being a very experienced software engineer in deloitte. 2. Being healthy 3. Getting married and so on I answered 1. He asked me why not 2 ? I said I compared the probabilities of both the events and found that first one would be more suitable. He asked what if you suffer a big failure in the middle of project
. I said all projects that I have done so far were not completed in one day , I faced failures in them too and didnt give up and came up with better solution . He was silent for a second after this answer.
Axtria Analytics Aditya Kumar Steps: 1. eLitmus test 2. GD 3. Interview The test was open for all branches. It was pen & paper based and had aptitude, quant & english comprehension based questions. Around 80 students were shortlisted. I was one of the few who were not CAT aspirants. Next round was Group discussion. There were 8 groups of 10, out of which 6 from each group were selected for interviews. My topic was: “Is make in India just a promotional gimmick or a structural change?” Everyone was given 1-2 minutes to speak one by one. So it was not a GD in strict sense. In interviews, after Introduction, they (panel of 2) mostly asked questions on my projects. They also asked, why not some Electronics company? Answered all of them confidently. In the end, they asked me a puzzle, which was based on 5 pirates and 100 coins. I was not so clear about it, so I asked him to elaborate the problem. While explaining, he answered it himself. One could only answer if he had read/heard about that earlier. Finally they asked me to draw a simple graph based on exponents.

WALMART LABS Yaswanth Kumar - Selected Written test: It had 12 MCQs and 2 coding questions with negative marking. MCQs were mainly based on Operating Systems, DBMS, C, C++ and 2 to 3 questions on aptitude. I attempted 6 of them. One coding question was formula based (Permutations and combinations). Other one was a difficult question which had an easy O(n^2) solution but an O(n) solution was required. I did the first question completely and second question partially. Suggestion: Try to completely solve one coding question and try to pass the other one partially. Do not look for complete solution and waste time once you solve one question. For MCQs, learn the basics of OS ( it is all theory ). I did not learn any DBMS. Read Yashwant Kanetkar for C and C++. Interview: I had five rounds of technical interviews and all were coding rounds. In each of the rounds, I was asked two questions. I had to write complete code on paper for one question. Round 1: Given a set of horizontal and vertical line segments( their end points are given ) find the intersection points. I immediately gave an O (n^2) solution. He asked me to optimise it. I said If I had to print all the n^2(worst case) intersections, there is no point in optimising it. Then I was asked to find the number of intersections. I gave an O(nlogn) solution and he asked me to code it. I found that my algorithm was wrong when I started coding it. I started thinking again and in the end I did not solve it.
Given a sorted array print all the possible BSTs (binary search trees). I told him the approach and he asked me how I would implement it. The code actually is very complex and I told him how I would do it. He asked me to code a part of it and I did. Overall the round did not go well. I had no hopes that I would go to next round. The interviewer gave no help at all in this round. Round 2: Given a BST (a simplified one), find the no of different input orders in which the numbers can be inserted into tree to get the same tree as output. I derived a formula for it(related to permutations). The next question was to find the number of inversions in a given array. I gave him an O(n^2) solution and gave him three approaches(Segment tree, BIT, Merge sort approach) to solve the question in O(nlogn). He was quite satisfied with the three aproaches. The round went well. Round 3: This was a difficult round. Given a dictionary of words and a sentence trimmed of spaces, I had to add spaces to it and print any possible solution. For example, “thecatsattheseat” is input and the output can be “the cat sat these at” or “the cats at the seat”. We have to print any of them. I gave him an exponential solution in the beginning. He told me to optimise it. Meanwhile he asked how I would implement a dictionary and access a word. I said an array and binary search in the beginning as I had nothing in mind. Then I said we can implement a TRIE. He said it takes up a lot of space. I thought for a while and said hash table. He was ok with that and moved on. Then I thought about the question for a while and gave an O(n^2) dp solution to it. He asked me to write the code for it and he asked me a lot of questions as to why I was writing the code like that. Given a word, I had to delete any one of the letters and the resultant word should also be in the dictionary. I should continue deleting the letters and getting valid words until only two letters are remaining in the word. So given a word I had to output whether it is possible to do so or not. The choice of the data structure was given to me. I can implement anything I want. Basically we need fast access to words in this scenario. So the choice was given to me. I again gave an exponential solution(brute force). Then I tried something with graphs. Using letters as nodes of the graph and walks of the graph as the words I tried something. He asked me modify it a little better to get a concrete solution. I was unable to do that and he told me the answer after sometime. Put words as the nodes and an edge between them if deleting one character leads to the other. Round 4: Given is a BST with exactly two nodes misplaced. If those both are swapped with each other I would get a perfect BST. Rest of the BST is perfect. I tried something with successor and predecessor and some graph traversals. I was getting the solution but I was unable to visualise it. All were a waste and after sometime I got the solution. We could do a inorder traversal and get an array. Normally we would get a sorted array. But since two of them are misplaced, I can find exactly two anomalies while traversing the array. Then I coded that and everything was fine. In another world the order of letters was different. Like normally the order is “abcd….”. But the order in this world can be “qsefgt..”. I am not given that order. I am given a dictionary which contains words sorted in order of the new letters. This is a question based on topological sort which was asked in facebook interview for internship this year in our college. I told her the solution and she was satisfied with it. I gave
her a different solution compared to the normal solution and she was impressed with it. Take the letters as nodes of the graph and put a directed edge between them if one comes after the other. For example the dictionary order is “qqer”, “qqdf”. I can say that ‘d’ comes after ‘e’. We can form an edge from ‘e’ to ‘d’. Then a directed graph with no cycles would be formed. There will be some nodes which have an in-degree of zero. We can start indexing them as 1 and do a BFS starting from them without using the vis array. We can index as child = parent + 1. We need to find out when a node will be last visited and not the first. The round went well. Round 5: I was pretty exhausted by now and I was unable to write code any further. I was given a straight forward dp question and I solved it immediately. Given a set of n houses arranged one after the other as an array of houses and given the amount containing in each house, find the maximum amount of money a burglar can steal with the condition that the burglar cannot steal in adjacent houses. Then I was asked a real time question. A real time stream constantly gives the following data. Time stamp, an id of an item sold, quantity sold, price of an item. I had to tell the item which had the largest volume of sales in the last 24 hours. I gave him an array implementation of storing the records and discarding the data which came before 24 hrs. He modified the question like I cannot store the data and the data disappears as soon as I see it. I can read it for only one moment. I was unable to find a solution and he gave me a hint of approximating the time accuracy. I then gave him a solution and the discussion went on for sometime about implementation of the code and I was asked to write the code for it. I wrote the code with a lot of mistakes and he understood that I was very tired and asked me to just debug the code and we are done. There was a HR round for two minutes or so. It doesn’t count at all. Suggestion: Always talk to the interviewer and let him know what you are thinking. That helps a lot. If you don’t get anything in mind, give a brute force solution.
