Technical Description
2.1 Introduction Passive Intermodulation (PIM) is caused by the nonlinearity of passive components. In large power multi-channel systems, systems, intermodulation products are are generated when when two or more signals with different frequencies mix at a non-linear passive component. Intermodulation products can interfere interfere with uplink signals and especially especially impair the receive receive quality when the intermodulation products fall within the receive frequency band. The GBFD-119308 Intermodulation Testing Testing feature is online antenna PIM testing based on traffic. With With this feature, O&M personnel simply run an MML command to start testing, and the test results are automatically displayed on the Local Maintenance Terminal Terminal (LMT). This simplifies the operation and improves testing efficiency. efficiency. The higher the transmit power, the larger the level of intermodulation products. Based on the existing frequencies and power level configured for a cell, Intermodulation Testing compares the changes in uplink interference before and after dummy bursts are sent. The comparison result indicates whether the cell is experiencing intermodulation interference according to the PIM testing thresholds specified by users. The PIM testing thresholds are as follows: l
DeltaThreshold
Specifies the threshold for received signal strength indicator (RSSI) level difference between maximum output power power and no output power. power. If the RSSI level difference difference exceeds this threshold, there is intermodulation interference. l
DutyThreshold
Specifies the threshold for service proportion. Normal services have output power, and therefore the impact of traffic on the accuracy of test results depends on the threshold for service proportion. According to the Intermodulation Testing Testing principles, the lighter the traffic, the more accurate the test results. If the proportion of services exceeds this threshold, the reported test results are unreliable. When this feature is enabled, services on the live network are not affected. It is recommended that this feature be performed when the traffic is light, for example, in the early morning. This avoids the impact of factors, such as co- and adjacent-channel adjacent-channel interference, and ensures the accuracy of test results. This feature checks whether a cell is experiencing intermodulation interference based on frequency and power level configurations. Issue 02 (2013-06-30)

l
If frequency configurations are changed, Intermodulation Testing Testing must be performed again.
l
If the intermodulation products do not fall within the current working frequency of a cell, intermodulation interference slightly impacts the services in the cell.

3 Engineering Guidelines
3.2.2 Activation Using MML Commands On the BSC LMT, LMT, run the STR BTSRFTST command with Test Type set to PIMONTRAFFIC(Traffic-based Intermodulation Interference Test) and Difference Threshold and Service Rate Threshold set to appropriate values. To perform Intermodulation Testing Testing for multi-site cells, you also need to set Location Group No. to an appropriate value.
MML Command Examples //Activating cell-level Intermodulation Testing STR BTSRFTST: TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, IDTYPE=BYID, BTSID=1, CELLID=1; //Activating BTS-level Intermodulation Testing STR BTSRFTST: BTSRFTST: TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, IDTYPE=BYID, BTSID=1;
Using the CME This feature cannot be activated by using the CME.
3.2.3 Activation Observation On the BSC LMT, LMT, run the STR BTSRFTST command to start Intermodulation Testing. The testing takes about 60 seconds, and the BTS reports the testing progress every 10 seconds. When the test stops, the LMT displays the test results. NOTE
Similar to cell-level Intermodulation Testing, BTS-level Intermodulation Testing can also be stopped at any time using the STP BTSRFTST command.
3.2.4 Deactivation Using MML Commands On the BSC LMT, LMT, run the STP BTSRFTST command to deactivate Intermodulation Testing.
MML Command Examples //Deactivating cell-level Intermodulation Testing STP BTSRFTST: TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, IDTYPE=BYID, BTSID=1, CELLID=1; //Deactivating BTS-level Intermodulation Testing STP BTSRFTST: TSTTYPE=PIMONTRAFFIC, IDTYPE=BYID, BTSID=1; Issue 02 (2013-06-30)
